ESO hit by DDOS attack?

I'm in the game right now and experiencing exactly what of described above. First time I've seen this in ESO.

Considering the events of the week it really makes one wonder what's up.

Has anything official been said about this? Lots of people are complaining about lag, which it is, but it's doing exactly what I've experienced elsewhere during DDoS attacks.

I doubt anything official has been said about conspiracy theories. Similarly, I haven't found a ZO post denying that the Illuminati are actually running the game, so there's no way to prove it isn't true.

In what way is this a conspiracy theory?

When I see server lag (which I haven't, by the way, but that's not really relevant to the thread), I don't think, "Oh, this must be a coordinated attack by a vicious collective of hackers." Like most rational people, I think, "Oh, it looks like the servers are having a bit of a lag issue. Probably something ZO should look at."

When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras. Unless, of course, you're in parts of Africa where zebras are more common. Then you should think zebras.

There have recently been a big number of online services hit by hackers related to Anonymous, IS and other groups, including Playstation Network, Xbox Live, Battle.net, Guild Wars 2 and more, and with the huge lag at the moment, is it possible that ESO has been another service struck by a DDOS attack?

It was Lizard Squad, not Anon.

People have been reporting this for several days. During the same time frame as the reported attacks on other services. I was skeptical myself but experienced one earlier and it wasn't what one normally experiences with server lag, which I also have never experienced in ESO until this. Usually in most games when server lag happens it's a couple of quick lags in succession but this was consistent and lasted a solid half min give or take. Remarkably similar to the same thing I've experienced in other games when it was confirmed by the admins that there were DDoS attacks happening. Exactly the same, actually.

I have no idea if it was or not but thought I would ask since someone else already brought the topic up a few days ago. It's odd timing to see server lag for the first time and have it be this extreme on this particular week.

But by all means, don't miss an opportunity to throw some snark in. We are on the eso forums after all.

I read an article yesterday about all those attacks, and it's done by Lizard Squad? I checked out the twitter and i don't see them claiming about ESO.

This game has had lag before, any one saying different simply has been lucky. I've been booted due to the lag before or locked up and died.

Sometimes lag is caused by your provider doing maintenance, or if your provider is a third party then by their vendor doing maintenance. Sometimes by the service you are connecting to. Rarely by your own machine.

And it's more properly labelled latency (the delay between the sending and receiving of communication).

DERP just posted the home IP addresses to the Lizard Squad on twitter so I dont think they will be causing too much trouble for awhile.
Force weapon swap to have priority over EVERYTHING. Close enough.
Make stamina builds even with magicka builds.
    Disable abilities while holding block.
Give us a REASON to do dungeons more than once.
Remove PVP AoE CAP. It is ruining Cyrodiil.
Fix/Remove Forward Camps. They are ruining Cyrodiil.
Impenetrability needs to REDUCE CRIT DAMAGE. Not negate entire builds.
Werewolf is not equal to Vamps/Bats.

I get dumped all the time but that's not from lag. There seems to be a chronic memory leak that rears its head round these parts.

I've been playing since just after release and if there ever was server lag I've not noticed it. My ISP is stellar though, which I'm happy to be able to say after decades of not being able to say that.

Regardless this was different. A long sustained lag spike that lasted the better part of a minute. After, people were discussing it in zone chat.

The other poster is right, though. The people doing the attacks this week boasted about it publicly. Just thought I'd ask because it was odd timing to have what looks just like an attack in other games happen here.

This game has such a bad reputation, no hacker would want to waste time attacking it. Outside of these forums nobody thinks anybody plays anymore.

It's more like the reputation is only inside these forums.

Have you ever watched the ESO Facebook page? Read the comments there?

Facebook?really? I mean i care about opinion of real gamer . In my opinion a real gamer don't use such website...

No offence just that I hate that website ^^

Nah, seriously, when I tell friends I'm playing ESO reactions range from "you still play that?" to "really? I heard that game was terrible." I even have one friend who I've gamed with for over 20 years who has been completely out of the loop for about 5 because he's neck deep in small children and a wife who doesn't want her kids playing anything that shoots or is an MMO. His world is all FIFA, Lego, and mine craft with a smattering of guitar hero these days. We caught up the other day and even he was shocked I was playing. "I heard that game had a lot of problems and doesn't sound like something you'd normally be into," he said.

I even called a local location of a particular games retailer a couple weeks ago to see if they had any info about the console releases since we, for whatever reason, can't seem to get any here...The person's reaction was, basically, "why do you care? That game is dead." That wasn't literally said, but that's pretty much what was said. They went on to say that they highly doubt the console releases will ever happen and that pretty much every pre-order in that store and the area stores has either been cancelled or moved to some other game. To which I, of course, mention that that's the one single bit of info they have given us here since the delay was announced.

Here's the funny part...To that they say "Well, that's good. Keep checking back, I guess. We have a co-worker here who loves all things TES so when something happens I'm sure we will hear ALL about it." I had to LOL.

Basically, what they were saying is they deal with, on a daily basis irl in a work setting where gaming is a constant topic, an ESO fanboy. Instantly I tried to picture what that must be like and wanted to ask if they act all superior to them, tell them how they aren't playing games correctly and are BAD PEOPLE for it, insult them, call them any litany of names from "immature" to "never happy with anything" to "entitled" when you disagree? At the end of a long frustrating day, do they tell you it's all YOUR fault for rushing to the end of the day and not reading all of the text you could have during your shift?

    LOL

Seriously, I enjoy the game and hope it continues to improve. Which is why I don't mind speaking frankly about it here as a form of feedback. But among people who have never or don't currently play the game it doesn't have a stellar reputation. People are, literally, shocked when you tell them you still play.

Your anecdotes are of course completely convincing. I'm sure you know such a large sampling of people that this is reliable information.
