There have recently been a big number of online services hit by hackers related to Anonymous, IS and other groups, including Playstation Network, Xbox Live, Battle.net, Guild Wars 2 and more, and with the huge lag at the moment, is it possible that ESO has been another service struck by a DDOS attack?

Nah it's just ESO's normal bugs.

DDOS doesn't cause bugs. It shuts the servers down.

Any reasons to think the server is less bugged than the client?

I haven't hit any bugs in months. But that's just one guys experience.

Have you tried logging in????? Just asking.
This game has such a bad reputation, no hacker would want to waste time attacking it. Outside of these forums nobody thinks anybody plays anymore.
Nah, seriously, when I tell friends I'm playing ESO reactions range from "you still play that?" to "really? I heard that game was terrible." I even have one friend who I've gamed with for over 20 years who has been completely out of the loop for about 5 because he's neck deep in small children and a wife who doesn't want her kids playing anything that shoots or is an MMO. His world is all FIFA, Lego, and mine craft with a smattering of guitar hero these days. We caught up the other day and even he was shocked I was playing. "I heard that game had a lot of problems and doesn't sound like something you'd normally be into," he said.
I even called a local location of a particular games retailer a couple weeks ago to see if they had any info about the console releases since we, for whatever reason, can't seem to get any here...The person's reaction was, basically, "why do you care? That game is dead." That wasn't literally said, but that's pretty much what was said. They went on to say that they highly doubt the console releases will ever happen and that pretty much every pre-order in that store and the area stores has either been cancelled or moved to some other game. To which I, of course, mention that that's the one single bit of info they have given us here since the delay was announced.
Here's the funny part...To that they say "Well, that's good. Keep checking back, I guess. We have a co-worker here who loves all things TES so when something happens I'm sure we will hear ALL about it." I had to LOL.
Basically, what they were saying is they deal with, on a daily basis irl in a work setting where gaming is a constant topic, an ESO fanboy. Instantly I tried to picture what that must be like and wanted to ask if they act all superior to them, tell them how they aren't playing games correctly and are BAD PEOPLE for it, insult them, call them any litany of names from "immature" to "never happy with anything" to "entitled" when you disagree? At the end of a long frustrating day, do they tell you it's all YOUR fault for rushing to the end of the day and not reading all of the text you could have during your shift?
LOL
Seriously, I enjoy the game and hope it continues to improve. Which is why I don't mind speaking frankly about it here as a form of feedback. But among people who have never or don't currently play the game it doesn't have a stellar reputation. People are, literally, shocked when you tell them you still play.

TL;DR You spoke to a few people, some who work in a gaming store, who don't think ESO is great. You already felt this way. Must mean a majority of people "on the outside" or with "objectivity" think the game is bad. Vis-á-vis you think its bad, so it must be bad, because some say its bad. Am I doing it right?

Correct. I like the game but I don't think it's that good, no. There's something fun about it that keeps me playing, probably the crafting, and I do think it has potential to be a great game, one of the greats, even, but simultaneously constantly wonder what it is the designers of this game are smoking that keeps them from shooting the fish in the barrel in front of them. I want the game to succeed but, sorry, I'm not going to drink the koolade and jump on some bandwagon that everything is just peachy when it's not and that excellent design decisions are being made when they aren't.
And you are absolutely correct that my experience is totally anecdotal. But it's not like I exist in a vacuum or go looking for a particular opinion. I know TONS of gamers of all stripes...Some that I've games with in the past, some are just friends who I happen to know that game, some are employees or former employees of the retailers I sometimes patronize. Exactly ONE person I know besides me has a favorable opinion of this game. My friend who is also currently playing. Purely anecdotal, yes, but I'm betting my experience is a lot more common than the opposite. In fact, I would really love to hear from someone who has had the opposite experience.
You might consider that sticking your head in the sand and pretending that what I'm describing isn't the case, that serious problems in the game don't exist, and that the way to fix them is by offering honest feedback not drinking the koolade. This game is so close to being a great game yet simultaneously so far. Pretending it's not hurts it more than it helps.
So you can argue with me all you want and nitpick what I've experienced all you want and we both can enjoy the game to our heart's content till the cows come home but that won't change what you and I both know to be the overwhelming public perception of this game.

This is the problem with what you're trying to sell. I accept the game for what it is, try to have as much fun as I can and log a bug report/ send feedback every time I experience something that warrants such.
I don't, however, come on the forums and loudly voice my displeasure OR blindly defend anything that isn't working as intended/promised. So you're wrong there trying to paint me as a fanboy, please try again.
I was referring to the fact that you were using your own experiences and minuscule slice of life as validation and "proof" of this perceived bad reputation you all keep talking about.
And what makes you think this? There have recently been a big number of online services hit by hackers related to Anonymous, IS and other groups, including Playstation Network, Xbox Live, Battle.net, Guild Wars 2 and more, and with the huge lag at the moment, is it possible that ESO has been another service struck by a DDOS attack?

You know, that DDoS means "Distributed Denial of Service" = "nothing goes"? And I could log on the last days without ANY problem, therefore no DDoS has happened. So, what makes you presume a DDoS attack on TESO?

DDoS doesn't necessarily mean that the server goes down (ESO has a very large server capacity), and there has been HUUGE lag in all zones even at night. And not just for me, my guildies were experiencing huge lag too.

I'm in the game right now and experiencing exactly what of described above. First time I've seen this in ESO.
Considering the events of the week it really makes one wonder what's up.
Has anything official been said about this? Lots of people are complaining about lag, which it is, but it's doing exactly what I've experienced elsewhere during DDoS attacks.
