Fix Cost of Upgrade from Epic to Legendary

Vortimere
Vortimere
Currently the cost to improve an item from white, to green, to blue, to purple increases linearly (add one stone to the prior upgrade cost) while the benefit has diminishing returns -- 4% relative gain for green and blue; drops to 3% relative gain for purple. The relative gain for legendary drops to 2% so is in line with diminishing returns for linearly increasing cost, but the cost upgrade instead of being 5 consumables linear (red line in graph), has a jump to 8 consumables (blue line in graph). There's already a non-linear diminishing benefit vs cost and this added non-linearity in the cost seems like a mistake or a developer's idea of a punitive slap on people trying to upgrade to legendary grade items. Drop the cost from 8 to 5 or if you're going to keep the cost the same, then at least make the benefit match the out-sized cost (i.e., a truly "legendary" item for such a big step in investment)...

I entered this thread expecting to disagree with you out of principle, but your graph was quite convincing.

I am of the mind that the cost should stay the same but as you say, the benefit from legendary items should be improved somewhat to reward this investment.

Legendary is meant to be.....legendary and therefore rare and costly. 8 items needed to upgrade the items is ok cause if it was any cheaper or more common, everyone would be wearing them.

Most V12 have a full set of legendary or two.
If they make legendary improved more then they are currently over epic, all we will see if a price increase of the parts required. I prefer it to just stay as it currently is.

I would agree but... New content comes quite often, vr14, eq balancing etc etc - ain't nobody got time to farm over and over to make new legendary sets... I can live with it being expensive, but destroying our old gear should give us AT LEAST 5 legend materials each..

Seconded. I haven't created a legendary item yet, but after three months my crafting character is finally able to craft woodworking items with eight traits, homing in on being able to craft all blacksmithing items with eight traits, and getting there for medium and light armour. Imagine my surprise when I noticed just how much material I need to improve items, despite having put maximum points in temper expertise, etc. I wasn't expecting that. After three months, I still don't have enough materials yet to improve even full one set of items with any type of materials! With the upcoming release of 1.4, there will be another ninth trait to research and veteran ranks will be expanded to level 14. I was preparing to make a complete set at vr12, but now I will have to hold it off again because of not having enough materials and not wanting to waste what I have on a set that will be obsolete almost the moment that I craft it.
The Legendary tempering materials are already rare enough and expensive enough that it isn't necessary to add another 'tax' on making items using them. Even with two fully upgraded hirelings working overtime and regularly collecting ore the legendary tempers are already hard to find. It is already ridiculous that, if you have an obsolete legendary item, you will have only have a chance at getting back even one single legendary temper. But requiring eight of them and then getting back maybe one of them when deconstructing an item is just robbery. And 1.4 be at least the second time that even the best Legendary sets will become obsolete despite all the effort and cost involved in making them? If I had any legendary items, I'd be pissed.
As a crafter, I find it hard to contemplate selling Legendary items. They will be ridiculously expensive due to all the materials needed, who will be willing and able to pay for them? Very few people, I imagine. And selling them to someone who will deconstruct them for materials, as with other items, will not happen at all.
Please either adjust the requirement for tempering materials or at least allow us to put more skill points into tempering expertise to lower it further and please allow us to put another few skillpoints into deconstruction to retrieve more of the expensive crafting materials.
When Alyennnah is not here, she's probably crafting. Quite possibly at Alyennah's Crafting in Wayrest. Or maybe she's out there, looking for new materials, recipes and styles to use in crafting. She wants to craft all the things.
