Do not plan in advance best practices: patch 1.3 and missing guildmasters

This is the scenario: trade guild with 500 members, guildmaster offline for two months, me being the only officer.

The catch: patch 1.3 came and i cannot hire guild traders or elect a guild heraldry.

The effect: people leaves, and no ones want to join without a guild trader. I'm not discussing the effectiveness of guild traders here, but it's a psycological thing, and people wants them.

The action: contact a GM! Brilliant! (4x)

The ticket: "Bla bla bla However, please be aware that while the ability to change guild leaders does exist, recent changes to the guild system have made using that ability problematic at this time. It can actually destroy your guild's functionality. We hope to regain our ability to transfer guild leadership soon, but we currently lack a way to do so safely."

The aftermath: a dead guild and lots and lots of GM apologies in my inbox. Say, any way to redeem those?

Way to go!

As the Guild Leader of a Trading Guild, and please read my response very carefully, I have one advice for you and the active membership of the Guild you belong to.

-Find yourself a mass e-mail addon and mail your entire guild that you plan to move on into a new guild of your own.
-Forget about the Guild Bank and the Guild Bank Money and do not let this make you stop on your plan.
-Form a new Trading Guild and have the active membership move to it, pick good/active officers to help you lead it.
-Make a solid plan in case yourself have to leave the guild, choosing carefully on a temporary replacement or a permanent one.

I know this is not what you want to hear, but it's your only viable choice at the moment for your issue. Trust me, it will work out to the best in the long run, cause something similar happen to us, but the only difference was that our previous and original GL had to leave the game and she made the choice to pass it on to me and we are running strong. Good luck to you in the future and if you would like any advice, you can pm me here or in-game (I will not link my trade guild here for a contact as that would be a dirty move on my part ;p)

So basically, they are saying that if a guild master stops playing the game without passing the torch on to someone, the guild is screwed until the developers can find and fix a bug that risks breaking the database if ZOS tries to change the guild leadership from their end.

At least they are honest and upfront about it, and that's a good thing.

Interesting. That might be why others are having problems getting characters into the game until those characters are purged from certain guilds.

I stopped following that thread, I wonder if anyone bothered to tell them.
