Can we have a One-Handed skill line?

Since the One Hand and Shield skill line now requires...well, a shield, could we have a skill line that revolves around using a one-handed weapon without a shield? This isn't like a super important thing that needs to be done RIGHT NOW or anything, but it would be nice, since there are plenty of mobs who only use a one-handed weapon and no shield.

Keep in mind that this is only whether or not you would want it. If you vote "yes", that does NOT mean you want it done right now, it just means you would like it done sometime in the future.

Makes no sense to me. What are you using the other hand for? Every weapon line requires you to fill both hand-slots; not doing so is inefficient.
One-handed is just half-way between Sword-and-Board and Dual-Wielding, and I see no purpose to it.

Since in-game you can even block attacks with a bow, a fancy one handed sword skill line doesn't sound that unreasonable, especially for Redguards.

Precisely. It is something that exists and works well both in reality, and in game lore. Although when I read the word ''fencing'', the mildly ridiculous image of a pompous male Altmer doing fancy rapier moves while wearing leggins came to mind.

    • Katana is often used with two hands or together with a Wakizashi.
    • Fencing is not fighting style for wars.
    • Kendo is fought mostly two handed.

Would be nice. I used to play (one of) my sorcerer(s) this way, with just a one-handed sword and no shield. I liked the image of it, and thought it would be nice if it was actually a thing, in-game.

Well, no. But it's also really rare that I find myself at the busy end of an actual war. Usually I'm the guy sneaking behind enemy lines to stab the enemy commander in the gut when he's not looking.

Tell you what, if I do end up in a war, I'll explode enemy heads with my mind (or summoned lightning. Whatev.), rather than poking them with a thin sword. Deal?

You can use one hand with a sword if you want, why do we need a skill line for it?

If they did make a skill line nobody would use it because dual wield would be more effective for damage, and one hand and shield would be more effective for defense

    No.

Just use a shield. Consider it a bonus.

It gives you another trait/enchant/item set slot.

I'd love it. while maybe not practical, there are times where I like the look of it on one of my characters.

(not everyone that plays this game actually cares about their exact DPS at any moment...well at least I don't.)

aesthetics are always more important to me over efficiency

This is a classic example of why devs shouldn't always go with the majority. Whatever the bonuses are for such a line, there are only two possibilities. Either the above happens, or this new line proves to be better at one or the other. It's a nice idea, but simply not practical in-game. This isn't Skyrim, and as cool as it looked in that game, you can't equip spells to that empty hand.

Best solution I can think of if you really want to RP it is just find a smallish 2H sword.

Not sure that blade in the picture looks like a Katana, given it appears to be a straight blade... but I have often liked the idea myself and think a weapon line based on it's use features could introduce more flexibility. Consider this about the katana:

    "Use

Because of its size, the Katana tended to be a longer-range sword. It's light weight allowed the wielder to make quick, fluid swings which tend to keep an opponent from approaching. The Katana could be held either one- or two- handed, and often one would switch between the two. Wielding the Katana one-handed, allowed one to stand sideways towards one's opponent, extending one's reach and taking away vulnerable targets. Also, the one handed grip made one more agile, allowing more freedom of motion and freeing one's off hand for aide in balance. Two-handed, the Katana could be wielded with devastating strength and speed.

Due to its meticulous construction as described above, the Katana held the sharpest edge of any sword in history. As a result, the typical Samurai wore very little heavy metal armor; for the Katana of an opposing Samurai could with a strong strike penetrate almost any armor. This situation forced Japanese Samurai to train rigorously in the arts of dodging and weaving between opponents, avoiding blows, and predicting their opponents moves, making them by far the most skilful and well-learned warriors of their day. I voted yes as it would add another skill to the game. More choices and more flavor can only be a good thing... right?

Passives in the skill could counter the lack of anything being used in your off hand.

I, too, would love just a single-weapon line, possibly broken into two different skill lines: 1) A brawler-type line, with skills using the free hand to brawl/grapple the enemy and/or be more evasive, and 2) a weapon/spell combo like from Skyrim, with possibly wards or something, making it a hybrid stamina/magika skill line.

Something along the lines of a spellsword would be pretty cool. The weapon line could be the first to have a mix of stamina and magika skills. Swing your sword then launch fireballs from your hand for example.

Another possibility could be to make it a fencing or dueling style which focuses on quick strikes and evades.

We should have a tree with custom moves that we can add to each weapon also , like spellcrafting.
