The names I use in all my gaming are based upon the phonetic spelling of Native American languages. I do this because it interests me and the rate that some Native American languages are dying out is alarming. That number is approaching 100 with tribes like Iowa, Wyandotte, and Natchez having no one speaking the language today.
In “Dances with Wolves” the Native American actors did not know the Lakota language and had to be taught it by Tantoo Cardinal who played Black Shawl, Kicking Bird’s wife.
All this information is a little busy I agree, but to me the Native American culture is rich and a joy to study. Their languages are the same to me. My favorites are Cherokee, Lakota, and Blackfoot.
So needless to say all my ESO characters have Native American monikers. I have two accounts:
Cherokee:
- Wesa = cat
- Wahya = wolf
- Osdi = bear
- As Gaya Dihi = man killer
Lakota:
- Wakan = Mysterious
- Misu = Little Brother
- Lila Wi = Beautiful Lady
- Ista Itan = Proud eyes
- Wiconi Washte = good life
- Cante Tinza = brave heart
- Aiyiana=eternal bloom
Blackfoot:
Amani = teller of truth
What is your naming philosophy?
