Fishing Bait Harder to Find Since Update?

Hello All!

As many of you have noticed, the recent update also allowed for some of the fishing bugs to be fixed. Achievements for all my fish now work, and the rare fish go to my inventory. Beside the price bug of 0g on some of the rare fish, I am happy to get to collecting the rare fish. However, since the update I cannot find any more bait. I have scoured Bleakrock, Stonefalls, and Deshaan for level one vermin to collect guts and crawlers off of, and not a single one out of the fifty or so I have killed is giving me absolutely anything! Is anyone else experiencing success or failure with this?

Just last night I destroyed over 30 pieces of bait from farming mats and a quest items.

Aww, and just last night I offered several stacks of bait to my guildies. Nobody wanted it so I vendored it. Can't speak for guts, because I haven't killed any critters, but I still find tons of crawlers and whatever else you get from farming herbs.

I forgot you can get the crawlers from herbs to, will get on that. Any luck on guts though? I think that one has to involve the destruction of bunnies and squirrels.

Guts can happen with any animal really. Mostly the ones that don't attack you, but even some of the mob animals give me guts. In fact, I get a lot more guts this week than I have in the past. I used to get maybe 2 or 3 guts per session, now I am getting a bunch.

You are supposed to be able to loot bait and crafting materials off lower level creatures, but no other loot. They broke this with the last patch (likely when adding the collectables) and now you can get no loot from them. This is also effecting medium armor crafters as they can't get mats for lower level guildies/alts. It's on the known issues list and will be fixed.

Hmm, perhaps I just had a run of bad luck or was looking in the wrong places. I'll try again, thanks for your help!

I have had this issue, Shelby. Since the very beginning of the new patch. Critters and small animals just won't drop the fishing bait at all. Ever.

Bad news: Not fixed with todays maintenance patch. At least not in the dozen or so poor lizards and deer that I massacred today.

Agreed, maybe the RNG just hates the OP, but I always seem to be throwing bait away just to make bag space.

It's an acknowledged bug that only inhibits the acquisition of Guts. Worms and Crawlers are still easily farmed from zombies and plant nodes, and Insect Parts are incredibly easy to come by in most zones. Not really anything more to discuss until it's resolved.

I have not the patience for fishing, but have some bait, not sure how much and not stacks by a long shot, but an assortment. How much are you willing to pay?

I was told that worms (hardest to get b4 patch) goes out for 10k for a stack of 100. ;-)

Now that guts are impossible to get, I'll let you imagine what a stack of 100 is worth Today.

And if you wonder, I had to use somewhere between 600 and 800 worms to finally fish the three unique salt fishes in Stonefalls and 500+ crawlers for the foul water blue one. Very unlucky in that zone.

Flowers don't drop guts or bait that one acquires only by fishing.


As for the topic, hopefully they push out a fix for guts soon.

Simple Bait sucks, but it will work for those that are too impatient and don't mind spending a bit of gold. Honestly, they really need to either lower the price on that one, or raise the chances of a successful catch. It's a little on the expensive side for the crap it does.

I've been using my unleveled toons to gather guts and things for my main, but that's slow, and I'm not the only one with the idea for sure. Sometimes rats and beetles can be pretty scarce nowadays.

Torch Bugs drop insect parts. Just caught a salmon near Rawl'kha, sold it for 3 gold.

Guts and crawlers no longer drop from critters like they should. I was told this was a known bug, but since the last patch, it is still not fixed.

Nope.
Simple bait won't work at all as you can't catch any of the rare fish with it. To catch the rare ones for the achievements you need to use the right bait for one of the four water types you fish in.

Wrong bait -> no rare fish and no bags.

As other people said, it's a known issue that they are working on fixing. It affects guts, crawlers and medium armor mats when you are killing underleveled critters.

For guts, you can make a new toon and kill as many level 1 critters as you can before you hit level 4 (at which point, they will stop dropping). I'd suggest DC as there are lots of rats running around Daggerfall.

Alternatively, one of my guildies put a stack for sale on our guild store. Our vendor is in Eastmarch right by the Voljar's Meadery wayshrine.

BTW I was killing a bunch of undead today and noticed they drop a lot of worms.

What r u talking about? Bait is the most available resource in the game. Rabbits, squirrels, any plants, zombies just to name a few of the places to them from.

This was true for guts before the patch, but there is a bug in the loot tables and if your character is above level 3, killing any level 1 critters that usually drop guts won't drop anything.

Also, critters that usually drop raw leather mats won't drop anything if you are 5 or more levels above them. So if you want to find rawhide scraps, for example, you need to have a toon that's below level 19.

It's listed in the "known issues" for Update 3

I had no problem farming some guts on Bleakrock Isle. The village is over run with chickens. I got guts off of, oh, 8 out of 10 kills. This was after the last patch.

No delete button? Ok, well, nevermind. I was probably level 3 when I was there.

If you have a lvl 5 or lower character you can still get guts off killing critters since they are not too under leveled for you. I have not tried this, but this is what I have heard.

I had just created an alt last weekend, so I was able to test this. Running around Davon's Watch and bleakrock killing things, I got guts pretty reliably until I hit level 4, and then no more. Not sure why guts are different from other loot drops, where the spread is 5 levels.

Is fairly sure critters stopping dropping their bait loot is a known bug. The worst hit by this is guts thought since not even a skeever mob drops guts.

Worms and Crawlers you can at least go on a zombie harvesting run to get. Insect parts are largely unaffected since you get them from insects themselves.
