[BUG] No error for researching two traits on one item - [REQUEST] Pet collision removal

I remember there used to be some sort of error sound or a message or something if you were trying to research two traits on one item at once (like researching Sturdy and Impenetrable on Light Gloves at the same time). Now it sounds like you're researching the trait, but nothing happens.
Also, I've noticed people griefing by stationing clannfears and winged twilights in the entryway to buildings. It also works with the Dwarven Spider pet. Has it always been like this? Can this be removed?
