Simply Misplaced quest bug (Mages guild)

Hullo, i have made a ticket but thought i might as well also make a thread about it for possible workarounds.
At the final part of this quest where you have to "zap" Temple acolytes with the Wabbajack, the Wabbajack does not fire off its effect and just glows slightly and not effecting anyone.
Obviously this means the quest cannot continue until i have zapped a few of them for the book.
Anyone else experienced this or know any workarounds?

✭✭✭✭It's a bit picky about how you use it - I've had trouble on several characters but most recent time I tried I found the trick was to just very quickly tap the LMB, then it seemed to fire reliably, it doesn't seem to work like a normal staff.
