Dye Availability - The Situation at Hand

I have a simple question that has probably already been asked but I missed it. Is the only way to get dyes through unlocking achievements? I know that is how you get a lot of them but is that the only way? I personally was hoping that you would be able to craft, buy, and sell at least some of them. Not terrible if it is all achv based but will bum me out a little .... I'll just have to figure out the various blacks and orange dyes and do those ones!

Dyes are only achievement-based. You cannot buy, sell, trade or in any way get a dye from another player. Dying an item binds it to your account.

Thanks so much for the prompt response ..... even if I don't particularly care for the answer! :)
Now I have to go home to my Nord wife and kids and tell them my plans of getting rich selling dyes has been crushed. Back to the brothel for my lady and off to the coal mines with the kiddos. Such is life.

Dyes are still only on the PTS and things may change by the time they are on the live servers.

They go live tomorrow, and they've been absolutely clear about account-bound dyes not changing. They don't want people to be able to sell/trade dyes or dyed equipment. Tying dyes to achievements allows people to show off their achievements with their armor. Allowing trading/buying would ruin that idea.

Wait....dying the item binds it to your account? So you can't sell colored armor? If that's the case then I'm tired of this company blocking ways to generate a community and a market. Now pretty much everyone will do the achievements for just the color they want and stop....so crafters won't have an outlet to really feel valueable. If I can't sell a red daedric armor then what's the point? It will be exciting for about 2 weeks...then be meaningless. I've never seen a company promise so much freedom but never delivers that feeling and continually does things to stop trading and the community from growing.

I feel like they struggle with the whole .. you know ... MMO part of the game at times. I am willing to stick with it and let them iron out the wrinkles (yes .. pretty big wrinkles) until there comes a point where I am bored. When I get bored in a mmo I take a break. I should also state that it is easy to keep my attention ... I can just run dungeons all day and be happy.

The point is that dyes are supposed to symbolize your achievements. You can still sell someone armor/weapons of any style, but they need to be the one to dye the items if they want to change the color. It doesn't make crafters any more or less valuable, nor was it ever implied that crafters would somehow have more access to dyes under the new system.

The point is, it would be quite detrimental and counterintuitive to the idea that further incentivizing achievements by getting a tangible reward in the form of (more or less) unique dyes could be thwarted by being able to just buy armor in colors one hasn't earned yet.

I'm sorry they don't let you prey on your fellow gamer's virtual wealth by doing it this way. Well, not really. :P

Be binding the color they block crafters from really being able to stand out....anyone that's in this game from launch has all the motifs they want...mats are pretty easy to get and research just takes time....If a Smith could actually sell colors it would actually make a value to their work....but Nooooo these [snip] idiots kill the chance to reward you for your hard work....they make things too easy for everyone so Noone can be different....basically the dumbest thing I have ever seen.
The whole point of an economy is based on unique items....but when everyone has such easy access to everything it makes nothing really that special....maybe if those 8 trait armors really do boost your stats better then 4 or 5 trait it would be worthwhile...but constantly blocking those players from building a name or making a profit from their hard work is just stupid.
This just gives me more reasons to play dayz and wait for destiny. I'm tired of the hope and hype to only find out its ZOS' d. ..it's like paying for Megan Fox and getting Melissa McCarthy (20 years from now).

First, you seem to be missing the part where dyes are about your achievements (this time I had to make it bold and italic to make sure you read it). Not anyone else's achievements. Not your ability to buy things. Your achievements. I have the Tamriel Hero title. I'm excited to see what dyes I have available for completing content that most people haven't. It would mean nothing if someone else could just buy a set of dyed armor that they didn't earn.

And I don't know why you think crafting is that easy. I fill at least one full set order per day on my main character, never mind the thousands I rake in from selling VR12 enchantments. We do not need yet another way to make money, especially with the new motifs/sets that will be coming with future updates.

    Yeah, I get that.

But I think you're overlooking the fact that some people were planning on using dyes to create a market for crafters. They were hoping that they would have something to make people want to buy their crafted gear.

It's a double edged sword, great for people who want to show that they have achievements (provided you have an colour map for the dye-achievements), not so great for those who wanting the crafting to take off.

Well, if you'd left my second paragraph in, you'd see that crafters already have a pretty thriving market. I make very good money as a crafter, and I mainly do medium armor and weaponsmithing (by all accounts, I should be one of the least popular crafters in the game).

You can still sell any item you want, the Dye system wont change this. What the dyes do, is giving an indication of what the player has achieved in his / her "life cycle".

Someone in red indicates the Emperor title, someone in pink being a good crafter etc.

I think the system is pretty cool and while there could theoretically still be people wearing a color they don't "deserve" - it actually helps those who have a long time interest in the game. I for sure will try to do specific achievements for a desired look and it will motivate me to also do things I might not have considered before like making a Vampire Char or doing a trial.

Hopefully they will design the housing system in a similar fashion where you unlock specific crafting styles with achievements and quests or story lines for your home.

Well, good luck trying to be a beautiful and unique snowflake somewhere else. Don't let the door hit you on your way out. ;)

ESO is a game where crafting and the items created by it are viable and important even in the highest levels, which is pretty awesome by itself. Add to this the fact that everyone is able to master all crafts, so everyone can build just the things they want. This will now be further emphasized by the dye system. If you don't see enough "uniqueness" in this, it might be because your view is biased, since you're not going to be the one who can sell it to others on your terms.

They are not going to survive in the premium market with the current plan. they should have had the guilds in by now and fixed this stamina /armor issue.

Why they are focusing on cosmetic fluff based on a broken mechanic is baffling. My only guess is most of the dev team is working on the Xbox PS4 launch and using the PC as a beta. Very disappointed ,but greeeeeeed is a funny thing makes companies do all kinds of stupid things that bite them in the rear later.

There is nothing at all wrong with the market. I have each craft mastered either on main or alt and I sell stuff all day long when I want to. Whether its making a stack of food or potions for someone, custom armor orders, or glyphs. Basically you will always have a majority of people who can't be fussed to learn the crafting ropes, or are just too lazy to farm it themselves and want it now, to make gold off of. Everyone being able to craft dye items for everyone else would have made the market stupid as hell and cheapened the dyes from the get. It isn't like a certain color is going to be hard to get. There are 9 different blacks for example. And with the low end systems that the seemingly welfare gamers try to play with they are not going to be able to see the difference anyways.

And your confident it will be fixed? just like the leader bug has been known since Beta . That is a basic feature for a MMO five months ...... still broken. there is not a chance in all hell those achievements will be fixed . some of them wont even work unless you are the one delivering the final blow. Like those Public GROUP dungeons. your expected to solo the Bosses to get the achievement . Not trying to be a smart [snip] but really now , do you think come monday your gonna get them? if they fix any of them you will have to go back and get them. considering some of them are reliant on one time opportunities and quests its likely many players will never have access to them.

    What achievements are still broken?

Mine have actually been fixed, about two or three patches ago.
Ruze Aulus. Mayor of Dhalmora. Archer, hunter, assassin. Nightblade.
Gral. Mountain Terror. Barbarian, marauder, murderer. Nightblade.
Na'Djin. Knight-Blade. Knight, vanguard, defender. Nightblade.

    XBOX NA
Ruze is a veteran of the PC Beta, lived through the year one drought, survived the buy-to-play conversion, and has stepped foot in the hells known as Craglorn. He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.

He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.

This is an multiplayer game. I should be able to log in, join a dungeon, join a battleground, queue for a dolmen or world boss or delve, teleport in, play for 20 minutes, and not worry about getting kicked, failing to join, having perfect voice coms, or being unable to complete content because someone's lagging behind. Group Finder and matchmaking is broken. Take a note from Destiny and build a system that allows from drop-in/drop-out functionality and quick play.

It is difficult. Some players have many more issues than others. Even with my old machine, I seem to have far fewer bugs than what others claim. I've had my share, but not to the degree of others.

For example. I wasn't getting the Pact Hero title because of the bugged Rift quests. But they cleared that up. I still don't have the achievement for rescuing all the villagers in Bleakrock, but that's mainly because I didn't do it by accident the first time I ran it. I missed the guy with the dog.

Currently waiting on Peacemaker to spawn in Aldmeri dominion to finish my last quest there. I've gotten every skyshard for each alliance. Every delve. Every dungeon. And only missed a few bosses in group delves, because of the rediculous respawn timers.

My point, is that the achievements I don't have, is because I haven't done them. But I've seen it broken in the past, and don't doubt it could be even now.

    What achievements are still broken?

Mine have actually been fixed, about two or three patches ago.

Really? thats odd several people in my guild have un completed zone achievements even though all the quests are comlete ,shard even though they have all shards for zone , and VR dungeon achieves. I tried the Zombie slayer in wayrest sewers last night. you know the one. Kill 20 zombies while killing the twins. Still broken.

I have my Tamriel Hero achievement, and I got the zombies achievement a few days ago. So clearly the game hates you, or I'm just much, much prettier.

The group delve bosses are broken. to get the achieve you have to deliver the killing blow. if it works sometimes that will not do it either. the best way is to try to solo them which is very hard.
