Question: EU vs. N/A

How come that in order to play on eg. the N/A realm. I have to download the full client once more?

Then I end up with a complete redundant set of client-data and almost 30GB of wasted diskspace.

That seems... silly...

Because the client programs are different .. what else do you expect to hear?

Is it ludicrous when other games manage perfectly well with only one .. Rift is the one I play most that's like this .. but it's ZOS and they don't necessarily do things efficiently.

He's right. The installations are independent, and typically one day a week they are running different versions.

Aside from the difference in the updating sequence, it still sounds silly. Alot of other games have the same client, but as a user, you'll just have to deal with the fact, that updates differ and you therefor can risk some minor downtime in your playtime...

all you had to do until last month or so was exit launcher, rename the folder, open launcher and change region;
have you tried that?

Since the europeans did complain when the server went down for maintenance at the same time as the NA server they decided to have a separate maintenance for each server.
Ergo for a brief time after a patch both servers run a different version of the game and require a different version of the client to connect to them
Thus you need 2 installations if you want to be able to log onto both serves.

Now as @Aenra stated, you can get by by duplicating the folder and rename it, but this will only work while both servers run the same version.

Nice try, but there has been two different installations from the start. Also both servers have had separate maintenance times from the start. What euro players complained was that the eu maintenance was originally on their prime time.
