According to previous TES lore this shouldn't work, but it does pose an interesting riddle, are they innocent of guilt because the Hoarvors fed on the sentient beings not them, or are they just engaging in sophistry.

Also, pigs have the intelligence of a four year old, and that's only one of the very many highly intelligent animals people eat, because carnivores will seriously eat anything with a pulse.
Anyway, stop trying to justify murdering animals. They are capable of enough thought and the ability to suffer that that is not a legitimate argument. If you want to say you are doing it because they taste good, fine, whatever. Own it. Don't make excuses.

While I do feel bad for animals and generally think that as an animal with moral insight, our current direction towards veganism is a good thing... we're still animals with animal desires.
I mean, if my own occasional rabid hunger for an occasional bloody steak is any indication, it would be hard to fault vampires for succumbing to their supernatural bloodlust.1 -

We are animals, but we do not really have animal desires. Rather, we are capable of controlling ourselves. We are able to reason and perceive right and wrong, and make judgement accordingly.
Personally, I never liked steak, or any kind of meat besides hamburgers. I was very partial to shellfish though, and cheese.
You'd be surprised how easy it is to simply ignore those desires when you start perceiving animals as beings with the capacity to suffer. And it doesn't hurt to know the gruesome details of what goes on in a factory farm, (they are blights, and labels like free range, humanely sourced, and organic mean nothing. They don't just cause undue suffering, they are environmental disasters.) If you have the money, I would implore all meat, dairy and egg eaters to get their food from small farms. As small as possible. But I realize that isn't necessarily feasible, and I don't expect most people to give up eating meat, dairy, and eggs when they do not necessarily identify with the cause.
However, there is no divide between humans and animals when it comes to what it is morally acceptable to eat other than those we set for ourselves. The reasons we avoid eating people are also true for many animals.
