Question about "view Distance"

Hi, i've searched for the answer to this, and couldn't find one.

My main question/concern. If i slide my view distance setting to zero, will it affect the range of which i can see enemies in pvp(other players, siege weapons) or just terrain, clouds, scenery?

Please excuse me if this is a dumb question. I am not at all tech savvy.
Thanks in advance for replies.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but my understanding is it effects both with enemies being able to be seen at a shorter distance than the terrain overall. Enemy name plates (faction bar on top) however seem to be locked within a certain range.

Ok. when u say Locked within a certain range. Do you mean. Enemies will be visible at the same range no matter how much i LOWER my view distance, or do u mean There is a set maximum range i can see an enemy no matter how much i INCREASE my view distance?

    Thanks again

Name Plates as in their HP bar and faction emblem seemed to be locked into place, however players and terrain seem to increase with max view distance it isnt even for arguments sake if you were at 100% terrain would 100% players 80% name plates 40% if you were at 90% terrain 90% players 70% name plates 40%.

Not exact numbers just giving you something to work with

Also I'm not sure on this just what I have come to see form playing around with settings

Ok. So from your experience. The view distance of enemy players IS affected by the view distance.

Anyone else care to confirm or debunk this?
Perhaps a zos representive could gimme a definitive answer?

You could try changing the setting and see, no?

Every MMO I have seen has had a separate toggle for enemy mobs and terrain rendering ranges.
    I bet ESO does too.

It's very hard to test it myself. Many factors. Enemy moved while i try it in pve. In town, inconclusive....cos they are friendlies and it might apply differently to hostiles.
@ZOS_GinaBruno, or perhaps any other official rep....Could we get an official response to this please?

@Devlinne‌, view distance affects everything. Basically, if you lower view distance, as far as your graphics card is concerned, the item/person/landscape doesn't even exist.

If your card can handle it, view distance will show you everything visible within that envelope.

Bear in mind, this will only apply to enemies not in sneak. View distance is does not affect detection range. Two completely different critters.

Don't let this throw you off, though. You will get in the habit of assuming that you can see the mountain in the background, so you can see everything up to that. You then move forward to find the army of the opposing Alliance form before you (though still at an acceptable distance, if your slider is set high.)

A good rule of thumb, if can see terrain detail, (grass, plants, raw wood or ore, etc), you will be able to see anyone that is not hidden.

In short, the largest view distance your card can safely handle is your best bet.

Don't turn it up so high that your response lags because the card is busy drawing the blade of grass 100 meters away while your enemy is drawing his actual blade.

Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

    Earn it.

My computer is older and this slider has the most impact out of all graphic options as far as fps.

Because it toggles ranges to load world objects like grass, trees, LOD, etc.

View distance defines at which distance objects are to be rendered.

So if you put it to zero then any object will be rendered extremely close to your char, while having it at 100 will result in objects being rendered furthest away.

Some games tend to split the rendering up, into NPC, foliage etc. this setting however is not in game yet and could probably only be changed in the settings file at the ESO folder.
