There has been a great deal of people complaining about the move to STEAM and the way the existing game base is ignored I wanted to cut through the crap and present this in a polite discussion for the ESO staff.
Let me begin by saying I am completely enjoying ESO and plan to continue to enjoy it. However the level of loyalty I have for the game is greatly diminished, here is why.
1) Vanity Pet: Now let me be clear I know this does not impact game play but as an Imperial Edition Preorder I can tell you the whole mudcrab and monkey pet was a joke. At no point did I consider either pet worthwhile and in no way useful for my game play style which is more RP based.
The dog however would be a near perfect fit and many others feel the same way. I find it amazing that we where rewarded for our pre-order efforts with pets that where more joke than real for most of us. There was no reason the dog should have been held back. Technically it is not more complex than the other pets and since the graphics where in the game at release, I see dogs all over the game, this pet should have been given at the start.
To use it now as a buying bonus is a cheap gimmick and insulting to those of use that pre-ordered and have already shown loyalty at full price plus subscription fees.
2) STEAM Community Access: Again not a game breaking issue but still an issue that should not exist. Many gamers, myself included like to be part of the STEAM community, earning badges and enjoy the overlay features STEAM offers. Moving ESO to STEAM is a great move, but one that should have been done day one.
However moving forward it only makes sense to give us the ability be part of the community while we enjoy the game. If there is an issue with this, the reasoning is likely wrong.
If STEAM is not allowing you to give the codes you need to state this and let fight for our demands with the correct party. However not allowing you to give the codes is a dumb move on their part. The community is not a strain on their system as many of us are already members. In fact it is a good move for them as it means more people actively using their community and interface. a pure win for them.
If this is a Zenimax decision then it makes even less sense. The addition of this customer base to the community on STEAM does not hurt your game system in any way and in fact makes your position stronger as you show a real desire to give the customers what they want in matters that do not effect game balance and do not impact your bottom line.
This matter is a minor issue in the grand scheme of things when it comes to enjoying the game and we all know this. However the response by Zenimax to this is a huge issue in telling the community where they stand and how grateful Zenimax is for all the pre-order customers that have been with them from day one.
I call for Zenimax to take a day or two and formulate an official position and state it clearly and openly. Do not duck and try to hide as this will not go away but will be made worse by your silence. Also do not take more than a day or two on posting the position because this is a SIMPLE position decision one way or another
If you are not Zenimax and want to add to this discussion I ask that you do so in a polite and respectful manner. This is about a civilized discussion on an issue that many in the community want addressed.
