Understanding the Wolfhound Dilemma 101

claytonjhouserb14_ESO
For those who do not understand why people are making such a large issue over an ingame pet I am here to help you understand if you would take the time to read this:

1. It is the basic principle that new players are being rewarded for basicly waiting to buy the game and vet players have to buy again to gain the same exclusive item it is quite the insult to some.
2. People have begged Zos for a dog and they answered by only giving it too a crowd who never even asked or cared. As I have said in earlier post Imagine being the older sibling who begged for a puppy and was told no and here comes your younger sibling and they hand him one without him even asking. Doesn't feel great does it?
3. It is not all about the dog for many! many just feel betrayed that they get nothing for loyal service and here comes the new crowd getting in game exclusives on top of a lower price.

So before you snub your nose on how "pathetic" some people are because they value something differently than you please get the whole picture before you bash fellow players.

Yes, this is exactly my problem with the Steam release 100%! I bought the physical copy of the Imperial edition, and I want a cool vanity pet like a dog/wolf!

    1. You mean the same way that new players of any other game are rewarded with sales and discounts? Shocker.
    2. Link threads, please. I've been here since fairly early in the beta process, and I don't recall seeing an overwhelming number of threads about dogs.
    3. In what world do you deserve a reward for enjoying yourself? You clearly like the game you're paying to play. ZO doesn't owe you a treat.

No explanation needed. Those demanding a pet dog are whiners. They were never promised anything of the sort, as such have no reason to feel betrayed. The whole thing is ridiculous. I can't understand why the pet is the issue and not the price. It's pathetic.

I have the imperial edition that was pre-ordered and i dont really care what they are doing with it on steam.I was quiet happy to get all the bonus's with what i had bought at the time.

The way i see what they are doing on steam it is to get more people to play the game that can only be a good thing.

If the package just removed Imperial and called it ESO Steam Edition would you still complain.

Agreed. These people need to get over themselves.

    2. Link threads, please. I've been here since fairly early in the beta process, and I don't recall seeing an overwhelming number of threads about dogs.

I'm in the same boat. I don't recall seeing threads and threads about people begging for a dog. Even on the non-official forums, I don't recall this happening.

    3. In what world do you deserve a reward for enjoying yourself? You clearly like the game you're paying to play. ZO doesn't owe you a treat.

In the entitlement world, they deserve it. No other world, however. JUST the entitlement one.

I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

    WOW ZEN REALLY?

How greedy are you gonna be? So I pre-order, get some goodies help you out and this is what I get. One would think after the big sub dump with the imp edition that you had you would learn..OK, so the real cost of the game is roughly 45-60 a month between sub, in store items and rebuying the game is that right? so when will we see the achev for all pets/mounts and see it include all the items you sale? better get your heads outta there its not a hat and fast!!!!

I don't give a rats ass if ZoS is greedy ( with the dog ). They could put it in the ESO store for $10 and that would be greedy. I would love that. It's the fact that we don't even get an option!

    1) New players are being given access to what many consider to be an arguably better version of the game, as they are allowed the Steam access and perks that veteran players are not even allowed to buy unless they give up all of the characters and "exclusive content" that they have on their current account. Quotations on exclusive because new players can still purchase these items from oustide sources.

    2) Has already been handled by a previous post, but because some people tend to be arrogant, even when given proof, here's a little bit of info for you. We've known for months now that there would be a dog vanity pet, we just did not know when or how we would get one, hence the reason the threads are a few months old. We knew there would be a dog pet released because Zenimax posted a list of pets that would be included in the game, so at that point, begging for a dog to be added to the game became pointless.

    3) If you actually read the posts, you'd realize that most of the players complaining don't want free stuff. We just want access to what others are getting for free, whether we pay money or not is up to Zenimax.

Zenimax has replied to the Whiterun Wolfhound outrage by deciding to add a Riften Wolfhound (brown) for those who want a dog but have been told by mom and dad that we're not allowed to get the dog we want. They did not state when or how the Riften Wolfhound would be distributed however.

As a dog person, when it comes time to adopt a new dog I don't go to the pound looking for a specific dog, I go with the intent of checking out every single dog to see which one I connect with. If I get through the entire kennel without finding a dog that I feel like I connected with, I go for a second, then a third lap just to make sure I didn't miss any dog. I do now, however, adopt a dog just for the sake of adopting a dog. The whole Whiterun Wolfhound incident feels like I went to the shelter to adopt and found a dog that I wanted, and then the clinic tells me "Oh, you want this dog, that's too bad. This dog is up for adoption, but you're not allowed to adopt it because you're not a new pet owner. You can adopt this dog, however, if you agree to give up all of your worldly possessions and agree to pay one hundred and fifty percent of the adoption fee.". Yes, the Whiterun Wolfhound, in my eyes, is a dog that's up for adoption but I'm not allowed to adopt because, as it is, I could get it if I were willing to buy the game again and give up my current account, characters and all, if I wanted to adopt it.

The Whiterun Wolfhound offer was a marketting technique which is intended to draw in new players through Steam. This is fine by me, but I have two problems with this, and I'm not pointing these out because I want a dog, I'm pointing these out because I don't want to see ESO flush itself down the drain like Zenimax seems intent on doing.

    1) I was told that the game was going to use the p2p structure, and to justify this I "would have access to all content." Adding exclusive content goes against Zenimax's justifications for using a p2p structure for the game. I don't want to be given vanity items just because others are when they participate in a promotion, but I would like to have access to them like Zenimax stated that I would. If this is not what Zenimax intended to say, then perhaps they should have been more specific and said something along the lines of "players will have access to all non vanity content".

    2) This whole incident was done as a promotion to draw in new players and bring in some cash flow. That said, Zenimax has literally dozens of current players who are willing to buy the Imperial Edition again (many who already have not realized that they would not be able to merge the Steam account to their current) at the reduced price just to have access to the new pet and Steam community. If Zenimax's marketting department wasn't so dim, they might take advantage of this. They can't offer the Whiterun Wolfhound to loyal players because they've entered a contract with Steam to sell it as an exclusive part of their promotion and they cannot break that contract, but they could offer the dog to veteran players who were willing to buy an "upgrade" to their accounts through Steam to add the Steam community perks and dog. So the real question in my eyes here is this. If they want money so badly, as they demonstrated with the release of the Guar plush and alternate horse texture on the game store, why don't they do this and the only possible answer I come up are that they would have to admit they basically gave the finger to all their loyal players with this promotion.

I like the part where we were asking that all plays have the same right to the same content (sell all promo items in store as well) and their reply was to make yet another new pet that will probably be only available to a select few.

I don't understand why they don't just sell all promotional items via their store, the people taking part in the promotion get it free, everyone else buys it from them and they make $$$.

i think it is all about how it was done. The perk part of the offer (vanity pet) and the discounted price less then 4 months after release. I am sure they will have console perks that are not listed also.

the best way i can think of is this....you go and buy a 50" TV and ask if they have the model with WIFI...they politely say "sorry no"....YOu go ahead and buy it..... you then get it home and find out it has a bunch of dead pixels...the response is "we will send someone out to fix that". You still get to enjoy the tv for the most part and the claim people are really nice and explain it might take some time to get to your repair. You then goto your friends house and see his new 50"tv that was purchased from the same place you bought yours, with NO dead pixels....same make but his has 3D and wifi built in.....and then you find out he paid 50% less...but you should be happy because the service people told you they were going to come out and fix it eventually.

THis is the best way i can describe a consumers view for the actions. There is no way around it, it was a terrible insult to the community that has been here and is helping them lead to a better game overall for future buyers....

Nope wouldn't complain so long as it didn't contain all the other imperial edition items (which would just make it a name change only. Not fooling anyone).

Right now they are getting both the mudcrab and the white wolf, along with Steam functionality if you care about that too (I don't) and there's no way at all for existing imperial edition owners to also obtain it.

That's the issue. It's not even about wanting the pet, it's about the Steam edition being better than our edition with no way for us to ever obtain what it contains. New players get superior version, old players are forever screwed out of it.

Cut and pasted from the terms of service you agree to every time you click play:

"ZeniMax may patch, update, or modify at any time with or without notice to You. Notwithstanding the foregoing, ZeniMax has no obligation to make available any patches, updates or modifications or correct any errors or defects in the Services. ZeniMax makes no guarantees about the persistence or availability of any user names or other personas at any time and assumes no liability for lost or deleted Account data. Except as prohibited by applicable law, You agree that ZeniMax will not be liable for any interruption of the Services, delay or failure to perform, any loss of Content (including, but not limited to, User-Generated Content and Downloadable Content), and/or Account data (including, but not limited to, Character data) resulting from any causes whatsoever. ZeniMax reserves the right to offer new Services, change and/or discontinue certain Services at any time in its sole discretion."

They are under no obligation here whatsoever.....and you agreed to it.

Furthermore, the "issue" isn't even an issue. So WHAT if new customers get a better deal? I've been playing for the past two and a half months. I've got the leg up on them....not to mention something they'll never have. The beta test pet. (Well, WOULD have, if I didn't delete all those useless things once I found out they take up valuable inventory space)
You lot complaining about this farce(and I, for that matter) do not DESERVE to get what's being offered to the new blood. Please, take a midol and get over yourselves.

I Talked to the ZOS folks at QuakeCon, they told me that they are planning for a Brown Wolfhound and a Retriever, they have not yet determined how they will be delivered (Quest in game, Bethesda/ESO Store or some other way) perhaps they will also add different color pigs after folks like me with the QuakeCon Bristlback Piglet start showing up and make Bacon Jokes.

I have the beta pet, explorer's pack and imperial edition. The beta pet and explorer's pack are different matters. The beta pet is naturally for beta testers only and nobody is complaining they can't get it now (just like nobody is complaining they can't get that pig pet from the convention). The explorer's pack was for a limited time and everyone was able to get it. If you missed out on any of it it's not because you were excluded from it, it's because you didn't take it when it was offered.

    See the difference?

I don't even want the pet. Wanting it is not the point though.
