how viable is the idea of facial recognition software to automatically create a character that looks like me based on a photo?

Which would you rather have: face rec or fixes and new content. They would have to decide between the two.

Actually it is already here. EQ2 has it fully integrated and the system works pretty good. Honestly though it doesn't really have a big appeal to a large audience.

Don't think thats what it's there for. It just makes the facial animation better and less puppet looking

Everquest next is working on something like this. They are making your characters facial expressions mimic your own at all times in the game. You can talk through your mic too so... That will be epic if they don't mess up Everquest next.

    Pretty sure that's an opinion.

Here's the problem neither are important.
    Fix the problems is #1
    Finish the game is #2

Then they can release the ps4/x1 games.

Then look into new content and any other features like facial tech.

Their issue is not focusing or lacking priorities that align with most if their customers.

Personally I do not understand how this is not a feature already. I mean come on, seriously this is a new MMO, the year is 2014, you can pick up a web cam for like £30 so why is it not a feature of character creation? Don't get me wrong, I do not expect ZOS to accommodate 1000s of different variations, but surely a creation system that incorporates web cam technology and delivers the closest match as can be reached by what the software has to offer, is not an impossible thing to ask? On the other hand most MMO players are trying to escape reality. Lol

ya know, just because theres still bugs to fix and other things theyre working on doesnt mean that new ideas shouldnt be spoken, the level of whining in gaming communities is a huge sign of our times isnt it?

To date, I am not aware of easily purchasable, clandestine software that conducts a scan of your face and renders them on to a 3D avatar.

And what happened to a little bit of work? If I want to make a character look like me, I know what my face and body look like. I am perfectly capable of adjusting all the necessary features in the character creator to get a duplicate.

It's doable. A lot of programs are using photoDNA to do something similar.

Brynnhild Valkyrja - VR12 Nord DragonKnight
Haakon Hardrada - VR12 Nord Templar

It's SOE. They will find a way to make it suck.

Did you mean character customization when you wrote customer characterization?

To answer your question: If I wanted to play myself, I'd just try harder at life.

So i put customer instead of custom and meant to write custom characterization rather than character customization... i dont know if thats worse or the fact that weeks later ur the first to notice that

The system in EQ2 and EQ Next isn't to generate a new character. It uses your computer camera to mimic your facial expressions as you play. Nobody uses it in EQ2. Nobody really looks at other players close enough to notice it. It also takes a lot of bandwidth, creating a lot of lag. And there just aren't enough folks interested in using it to make it worth the dev time on it, at least in that game. They did it as a test for EQ Next but so far nobody I know gives a fig about that game.

Get the Facegen Demo, it's what Skyrim and Oblivion uses (and probably this game too as it is so similar) and you can practice. Once you get a handle on how to position the sliders, then you can quickly make something close to your face in the game.

    http://www.facegen.com/

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.
