I don't get it, can someone please explain this wolfhound issue without 400 pages worth of posts?

Its like this. ZOS/Bethesda is about to go bankrupt. You only discount and do mass give away when your core customer/business model is broken. Not only have they not hit projected target sales but have angered enough of the players that paying sub numbers are in the toilet as well. ZOS is under contract to push a working console version by a certain target date. That is blown not only did they miss launch date but can not produce a stable mmo. Which means there is a lawsuit in the works. Soon as this becomes public it is over. Creditors are going to want payment on ZOS debts now. Then the choice is close up shut the server down without warning and layoff everyone or File for bankruptcy protection and hope the judge doesn't order the shut down. We warned you.

This is the part that bothers me the most. The fact that so many current subbers have been asking for a dog pet.
Really? I can't recall a single post, let alone an actual thread asking for this.

    Care to provide a link?

MUCH more important topics to be attended to by ZOS. However, it still reeks tbh.

Do you want me to link all the posts about real issues. Issues that actually affect game play. You found one post about a damn dog.
    Search. "game breaking"
    Search "class balance"
    Search "broken abilities"

You wont have to spend half your morning trying to dredge them up, that I assure you.

I wonder why people are complaining about the dog and not the major price drop of the imperial edition?

I mean the way they've handle the business end of things so far they'll most likely be adding the dog to the store at a premium in a month or so any way.

I simply pointed out to the other poster that only those that don't understand modern business operations are going to get "upset" about this promotion not being offered to current customers since it's illogical to offer sales promotions to people that have already bought the product you're attempting to promote.

It's very illogical for a business to *** off customers paying monthly subs. Particularly when it's on top of all the other things they are doing to *** them off.

At this point if I were managing this business i'd be putting a whole lot of thought into not only into not pissing my customers off further but making them happy.

And if giving currently loyal customers who bought expensive premium packs a bunch of cost free pixels would make them happy then i'd do it in a cold second.

    Only an idiot wouldn't.

Envy. Jealousy is when you already have something and fear it will be taken away. :P

According to http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/jealousy The definitions of jealousy are as follows.

1.) an unhappy or angry feeling of wanting to have what someone else has

    2) an unhappy or angry feeling caused by the belief that someone you love (such as your husband or wife) likes or is liked by someone else.

Synonyms include the following. covetousness, enviousness, green-eyed monster, invidiousness, envy, resentment

Since the comes from the people who write Merriam Webster dictionaries I am going to have to take their word for it.
That which we obtain to cheap we esteem to lightly, it is dearness only that gives everything its value.

Except of course they're not, SOME customers appear to be "pissed off" about this but those are likely the very same customers that patronize a Starbucks, complain the product tastes too much like coffee and thus feel entitled to a free doughnut.

I'm an ESO customer and I couldn't care less what promotions they offer to new subscribers since I got what I paid for when I bought ESO and have no inclination to whine about something somebody else got that I didn't.

On the other hand some people appear to derive pleasure by manufacturing righteous indignation over absurdly trivial things (like not getting a bunch of pixels that someone else got), whatever floats your boat I suppose.

It doesn't matter what you or I think. It's about not pointlessly alienating your existing customers regardless what you think of them because - they are the ones paying the bills.

And they clearly are pissing customers off. i don't care too much either way although a dog would be cool. What I care about is Zenimax never missing a chance to pointlessly generate more bad publicity.

Publicity they can very little afford given everything else.

Its called marketing and its there for like 99% of the subscription products out there, first time a subscriber ?

Lol this is stupid marketing, I have a business degree, here is my problem its ok to market but to screw over your current clientell and give the new croud something that was never offered to yuor old clientell is bad marketing. Good marketing to the new people, bad to the old, cause im stuck with some stupid crab that is still in my mailbox cause tbh i dont want crabs. However something better is being offered to people who oh say havent invested almost a year into this game, (When i say a year i was on the PTS as well) so again the theory here is screw over the old and please the new, pretty stupid imho

I'm have a marketing master doing my PhD and I have to agree.

Simply put, the price slash is fine, providing limited edition add-on is debatable. As long as the limited add-on is equivalent to what the current clientele already has, the current subscribers would shut up. Should it be a limited edition add-on that is better than what the current base already has, even at the slightest bit, it should be made available to both new and old for purchase consideration.

Without having to purchase another copy of the product.

It's just like when an iPhone offers update to a new iOS. You don't have to buy a new iPhone. Nobody cares about price slashes, but people will be angry when they can't update their phone.
People keep telling me they're gonna buy me an ale. They never do.

There are only two things I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's culture. And the Elves.

    Help make this compilation complete!

Patience grasshopper, it's probably a pretty safe bet that the vanity pet in question (or some reasonable approximation thereof) will be made available at some point for purchase by "pre-promotion" customers via the online shop. So those that really want it will be able to get it but not at the expense of devaluing the current sales promotion.

That's a non sequitur comparison, the current situation is more akin to customers that bought a new vehicle feeling entitled to a rebate that is offered 6 months after they made their purchase (which would of course render sales promotions entirely pointless). The situation you describe is more akin to ESO providing continuous software updates (bug fixes/enhancements) and content to subscribers at no charge which of course they already do.

    Hilgara:

1.) I am zee MISTRESS of search terms, so it took me a very brief amount of time to find those, and there were additional ones from players wanting a dog/suggesting it going back to April, not long after launch.

2.) I completely agree with you and feel a 'tad' (my new favorite TESO official word) ashamed since all this muddying may send ZOS staff on additional sidetracking instead of staying focused all the time on the more important, CONTINUING problems. :|

Honestly, I see it like this.

Let's take the option to hide pauldrons (the shoulder flappy things) as an example. People have been asking for that for quite a while. It doesn't do anything but change your look, but it's a welcomed change for the people who turn it on. Well, let's say, 3 months after release, Zenimax goes and releases ESO on Steam. Not so bad, right? Except there's a special offer...those who buy the game through steam will have the option to hide their character's pauldrons.

The long-time players have wanted this since the beginning, but yet, instead of giving it to those players, they decide to give it only to the newbies through Steam. What a slap in the face, right?

See, it's not just about the dog. It's about the fact that they took something that we've wanted since day one and given it to someone else.
