Zone trolling

Another issue for sure. Bad manners, ridiculous temper tantrums and name calling. We don't have to besties' but some reasonable degree of decorum. Often see people getting verbally attack for lil to no reason, people lobbying others to join in. Seen racial and sexual slurs, If I close my eyes I would think I am playing Call of Duty. It needs to be toned down. Basically of unprovoked name calling. There should be some repercussions for continued conduct. Seems a few people think they hide behind their KB and release all there insecurities on a fellow gamer. Be surprised the attitude change when they cannot play for a day or 2 for a unexpected suspension. Something to consider.

You can turn off /zone if you don't like it. Personally I find it funny to read when you're running keep to keep.

Dear OP, on which Megaserver do you play? EU or NA? If I had to guess I would say NA because on EU-Megaserver I cannot see such a bad behavior nearly as often as I saw it in other games. Chats in TESO are actually quite decent. There are sometimes exceptions but nothing to serious.

sounds like normal mmo zone chat to me. which is why I usually turn off zone chat.

Imagine what it would be like if the game was... brace your self... F2P. God forbid. Subscription based MMOs probably have the lowest "troll" or "name callers" population.

And as always, that beautiful option to set a particular channel to "off" could be your best friend.

Zone chat is way better than some MMOs. The most annoying ones in zone chat I don't respond to, but ignore. Hear no evil, see no evil...works for me. Regarding this OP though, I agree it is great to have good usable zone chat where people are helpful and not putting eachother down for asking questions, or trolling with questions. Sometimes hard to know which you are listening to.

i spend 95% of my time in cyrodiil so i like to have zone chat on for situational awareness

all i can tell you after my 17 years of pvp mmo zone chat is that it won't change - you'll have really helpful folks on one end, trolls and jerks on the other, with the majority of folks in the middle

right click/ignore the ones the trolls and jerks you is best you can do and hope for if having an idea where certain groups are going/scouting reports from zone etc are of interest to you

Laisse faire - zenimax, please don't regulate zone chat. There is an ignore feature. Use it.

Since i have been playing i haven't spotted a single bit of real trolling in zone chat. (outside of Cyrodil)

Also, turning off zonechat completely for awhile can help, as well.

If someone is going at it far beyond a reasonable level, report them and let Zeni decide if it's worth their intervention or not.

It's a given fact that there will always be *** who will talk crap in an online game, because the anonymity of the internet keeps them safe from getting their teeth knocked in. It has always been like this and will likely always be like this.

Considering I've seen *** jokes in zone chat (stop ***, say yes) I'd very much like to see zone chat moderated, but I think it would take valuable time away from admins.

screenshot/report, if it's bad enough, maybe ZOS will punish or warn the person.

The real problem is not individual people, it's mob mentality. One *** can whip everyone else up and then you have a team of ***.

Kinda disappointing to see so many people who think the bad mouthing and treating other people like $#!t is normal and expected in MMOs. This is actually completely wrong, it is normal and expected in FPS games and on Xbox. In the games which paved the way for a game like ESO, (EQ, DAoC, UO, AoC) those people would have been ostracized by the community (yes games like this generally have a sense of it) completely until they left the server or changed their attitude.
But, times change, I get it, one thing that shouldn't ever change, treat others how you would like to be treated. Also, stop trying to compete to see who can be the biggest [snip], hint: there's no prize for winning. You might be surprised how effective it is.

So grammar policing is still an acceptable substitute for wit? I think not. Just comes off as a failed attempt at wit. Its a online video game forum, not a doctoral dissertation, grammar means nothing. A comma is a natural short pause in a persons speaking. A period is a longer pause typically reserved for taking a breath.

I report them and I know for a certainty they get warned (I've seen evidence of this) and often those same people become much nicer in zone chat... give it a go.
