I really was going to quit....

I was telling my wife that ESO was just not coming out like I hoped. I explained all the problems I had with it, like the personal bank systems and such, and then she asked me a simple question.

"If you were in an arcade, you would put two quarters in the machine and play for 15 minutes?"

I said, "Probably. The game can be fun, it just has a lot of problems."

She said, "Well, if you ever get to a point where you would not pay two quarters to play for 15 minutes, quit. Until then, you might as well pay the 15 bucks a month and just enjoy a few minutes a day playing. That is what you would have done if you were a kid in an arcade"

We had a long talk about how it was the principle of the thing and the badly set up systems and all the rest you would see on the forums. It was a nice long chat.

At the end of the day, like in all things, my wife was right about everything. As long as I can see myself playing a few minutes a day, ZOS can have my 4 bits a day.

Right now, for the most part, I login, collect my mail, do some crafting and log out. 10-15 min a day. On a rare day, I'll go do some vet quests for an hour or two.

I guess that will be my holding pattern until the new updates come and maybe the game will grow into a better game in a few months.

So, if I ever go a few days and don't login, I will quit, until then I guess I'll help keep them in business. :)

I try to talk to my wife about my thoughts on ESO and various other games and she tries but she eventually gives off that same blank stare that I assume I have when she starts talking about raising our child or delays in making me a sammich.

She sounds like a right handful. Women having opinions on video games... what is the world coming to?
Just make sure she know that if she was Argonian she would be a lowly maid, in the kitchen making your sweetroll as it should be.
Now... get your butt back into that pc chair, tell her to go grab you a mead and get playing ! Listening to women's opinions... geez, next you'll be wearing a fancy robe and casting girlie spells !

    "4 bits a day".

    I like the reference.

A "bit" is in reference to a Spanish silver dollar which was the cash standard of the day. To make change, people actually would chop it up into 8 equal pieces and this is where the term "pieces of 8" comes from.

Now how we went from saying "pieces" to "bits" is anybody's guess.

As to the 4 bits ...

Each individual piece equals to 12.5 cents. And 4 bits would be 50 cents. Which is basically what we all pay to play the game.

And to quote Paul Harvey, "and now you know the rest of the story".

Yeah but A LOT do not. If I were to try and talk to my wife about pretty much any game she would just walk away. Yet she Expects me to care about her latest shoe shopping experience.

    Perfectly understand you mate.

When my ex-wife decided to move from DAOC to EVE, and insisted to play EVE also, when I told her "then I will cancel my DAOC sub" she came down with the same analogy and argument.

End result, I played DAOC for 11 years, with EVE on the side 3 of those.

I don't actually play all that much. This game isn't like WOW where it encourages you to spend a lot of time playing every day. But, money is not an issue (seriously, $15 is one pizza per month), so I'm definitely staying subbed. No reason not do, I do play it enough to get my money's worth.

I am luckily not afflicted with the female 'shoe' or 'shopping' obsession....

I am also really, really lucky in that my Hubby's gaming involves an Xbox and driving games(no clashes over whose turn it is, him Xbox, me PC)......

Do we understand each others games, probably not but we make a point of listening to each other talking about them.....

Could be why after 26 years we are still mad about each other :D

I am lucky. My GF accepted that games are my hobby since I was a kid.
Off course she gets mad when I play too much, but that is perfectly ok.

My 6h a day are now over she returned from abroad after a year so I need to spend those 6h with her and then a little if any time in Tamriel:-)

I am looking forward to non vet campaign if it will fail my expectation I will quit probably.
Somehow I can not find the true fun in standard campaign. I still have 6 levels to go to reach top level so I can not perfectly tell if it changes things to be really balanced, but I am convinced that vet12+legendary enchanted gear is game changer.

My fiance enjoys MMOs from time to time, and luckily seems to enjoy ESO more than the others we've tried. She loves to bounce between ESO and the Sims (though Sims 4 looks like it will call dibs on her gaming time a bit when it drops lol). Luckily she doesn't care how I spend my money (as long as I'm responsible with the bills hah), I've been subbed to TOR, FFXIV, and ESO for awhile now.

Smart ball and cha...err..wonderful lady you got there. My only question to the analogy she presented to you is this: Would you still put in the two quarters for that arcade game if all it entailed for you was 15 minutes of checking mail and crafting random supplies? It's nice that you get the urge sometimes to go out and do some adventuring, but that sounds to me like an arcade game that you wouldn't have to fight over to be honest.

I'm glad you're sticking with it, but hopefully it's to see if it ever does pan out the way you would like it to and not the fact that you're okay spending the money for a crafting game :)
On second thought, let's not go to the forums. 'Tis a silly place.

Well, right now it is more of the fact that I have not quite given up on it yet, but I'm right on the edge.

I see what they are planning and so I log in to keep my character up to date and once in a while I go do some quests.

I still have hopes it will turn around enough to make we want to log in and play, instead of just checking in.

I'm a 40-year-old man who is an exercise physiologist by trade. My husband is a 65-year-old physician.

We spend most of our free time together, so we both appreciate the other's alone time. Space is good for relationships.

I game, he has a plant habit. No, not weed ya bunch of stoners! I meant filling up our Toyota 4-Runner with vines and shrubs and other growing stuff. Looks like a herd of druids vomited all over our back yard. LOL!

It's funny, though. He's actually interested in the games I play because of the story lines. When we're out with our friends, he'll actually talk about it even though he slaughters the names.

At first, World of Warcraft was "Warchest" or "Warquest". Then he referred to Star Wars: The Old Republic as "Republican Wars".

Now he's having sh!t-tons of fun calling ELDER Scrolls Online "Seniors Gone Wild". :D
