PLEASE do not silence NPC's!

Reading through the patch 3 notes I see one of the things they mentioned was cutting off the NPC dialogue when you clicked to enter their menus. Like the interesting things the various merchants have to say would just stop mid sentence if you went to buy something.

I beseech you ZOS, PLEASE leave this alone! This is one of the few immersive RPG's on the market that allow the NPC's to continue playing their dialogue while you browse and I LOVE IT!

It would be such a shame if they removed this. If people really can't stand the dialogue I would suggest the addon Audio Control (I just ignored the dependency he mentioned and it still works fine) which lets you set keybinds to mute each of the various types of sounds when you enter a city, then toggle them back on with the push of a button.

But for those of us that LOVE the RP value of Elder Scrolls, this would really be a terrible loss.

    Totally agree. However... I *would* be ok with them shutting the bankers up. Like forever. Having to completely exit out of the menu every time you want to look at your bank / guild bank / guild store drives me a little nuts.

    Deposit materials into bank:
    "Auri-El knows I'm here to serve. What can I do for you?"
    Withdraw stuff from guild bank:
    "Auri-El knows I'm here to serve. What can I do for you?"
    Realize you missed something from your inventory to deposit:
    "Auri-El knows I'm here to serve. What can I do for you?"
    Do a little shopping at the guild store
    "Auri-El knows I'm here to serve. What can I do for you?"

    You can shut up. That's what you can do for me.

    Other merchants, though? Leave 'em. A lot of them are quite funny and entertaining, and you don't use them nearly as much as the bankers.

    On the other side of the coin , why then dont you wait the NPC to stop talking before you go to buy something?

    All you are asking for here really is that other go the extra length instead of you.

    Personally i dont mind it one way or the other ,still it would make me hate the bankers less.

    Because sometimes they have a LOT to say, which is AWESOME. It adds culture and atmosphere to the game.

    I like to browse and clear my inventory WHILE I listen to them. It moves things along, and makes the process seem less mindless.

    That is nice , ONCE or even 5 times.

    I heard some bankers say the same thing over and over again , by now over a hundred times.

    So sorry if i now dont think what they have to say is nice , just plain annoying.

    While i do listen to NPCs giving quests ... , i dont value much what shopkeepers and such have to say anymore.

    Well, bankers I can see MAYBE, since you have to activate them repeatedly and you visit them a lot. But merchants, usually have something unique to say. Even the same ones if you talk to them multiple times they will often say something new, and besides you don't visit them near as often as the bankers (or the same ones so frequently.)

    To me, it adds to the quality of the game. You get more back-story, more regional culture, and it feels more like a living world.

    Like I said, You can just download a simple addon to keybind a mute toggle for dialogue. OR perhaps ZOS will consider adding mute toggle keybinds of their own instead of taking this awesome feature to browse the shop WHILE the keeper talks to you away.

    Simply apply this to NPC's that player will interact with frequently.. Bankers, merchants, and etc. Keep the quest givers and other NPC's the same.

    Sounds like it will be an all or nothing change however.

    Again in this situation , one side has to lose , both have reason and thus can be justified. One will have to put a little more effort into this.

    If you actually wanted to make a more resonable suggestion , you would have asked for a simple toggle checkbox option where the player can select to keep the things like they are now OR change to mute the NPC when they select one of the options.

    Instead you try to push zen to not make the modification and send people to get a addon to solve their issue so that you can play your game undisturbed.

    LOL you sure are an opinionated one, aren't you! I like that. ;)

    Another way to look at this would be that only one side would represent a loss. If you leave it in, people that don't like it have the OPTION to download a simple addon and set a key bind to turn it off. Yes, it may involve the inconvenience of spending 30 seconds downloading something from a trusted site, but they have the CHOICE.

    On the other hand, if they take it away there is no addon for the people that enjoy RP and want it back. It is gone, along with their option, their CHOICE.

    So you see, one side loses while the other is merely inconvenienced. :)

    I don't see why this would be an issue. Since ZoS is doing this this, they can simply give us a toggle of some sort in the settings to keep the audio as is. *scratches head* I don't think that should be too hard for them. No addon needed.

    The game IS getting MUCH better. But this being a trivial topic is merely your opinion, good sir.

    Some people enjoy the RP element of the Elder Scrolls series, and it is simple things like this that make the game a TREASURE in the genre.

    I don't expect others to share my views however I would ask that they consider leaving this in since those that don't like it do have an option, which would be made even easier if ZOS would add the ability to toggle sounds on and off by keybind as a native function of the game not requiring an addon. :)

    Just tune them out, everywhere you go in the game and in real life there is background noise, you have the ability to just filter it out, once you get used to selective hearing, it won't bother you a bit.

    in morrowind the npc's only said a few things and 98% of the time All dialogue was by reading what they said when you clicked on them and i LOVED it!
    the dialouge we see in eso is repetative and downgrades the dark elves. id be very comfortable if all dialoge was shut off because it lets me imagine and wonder. i miss that from the day's of morrowind so so much.

    It is cool and imersive the three first times you talk to then. After, it it's just awful to hear all that thing again. But it's simple solved with this:

    1. Open NPC menu;
    2. NPC starts talking the old same dialogue;
    3. Player click the option he wants, STORE, for instance;
    4. NPC interrupt the speech and say: "Oh, you want to see my stuff? Take a look."
    * It's just and example.

    That would be much more imersive!

    not really, Istyar,
    infact i would prefer a "you may speak" option if i wanted to hear them speak.

    when they added the enchanter npc to my EP campaign she spoke nothing, not a word, not even hello or anything. not even when i clicked on her to purchase some enchantments she said simply Nothing. i loved it dearly and found it very refreshing.
    then, suddenly after a small patch she was just like all the others and spoke, opening her mouth. i was very disapointed.

    There is another alternative since the main problem identified by the forum posters above is re-partition, so then couldn't you add more and varied greetings by bankers? It could be the something as simple as "Look, I'm busy what do you want"... You get the drift. It doesn't need to be a huge greeting every time, just a varied greeting, an occasionally hello would suffice in most occasions.

    Why does it need to be the same greeting every time?

    Now I don't claim to know how hard that would be to implement, maybes it's asking for to much but it would probably be enough for most people not to want to punch their screen when they click on a banker.

    why not? morrowind did and it won 3 global award's and was the most beloved of all the elder scrolls series.
    it was wonderfull that the true speech was limited and gave you imagination a chance to create what you thought was happening in the npc's mind and world.

    I don't care if merchants, random NPCs, etc, keep on talking as I do stuff. BUT, it DOES get annoying when a random NPC keeps repeating the same thing over and over again -without- any input from players, and barely taking time to catch a breath in between each repeat.

    Those two NPCs in the Eldenroot crafting area... If I hear that Khajit say, "Believe what you like..." one more time, I am -seriously- going to choke someone. As it is, I've relocated to Rawl'kha and I -still- hear that stupid Khajit's voice in my head... makes me want to eradicated every Khajit now...

    Seriously, though, it's a bit annoying, but I know I have a volume control. No big deal, really.

    It's this and the change is 100% because some of the Bankers in the game have only 1 line of dialog that they repeat over and over and over and over, etc.
