ESO feels.... lonely.

NerosCinema
So I've been playing a lot, just under VR5 with my Dragonknight. I've taken note of it throughout my time in the game and I've come to the conclusion that this game feels lonely to me. For an MMO... there is no one. It's a rare occurence to see other players, especially in Veteran zones.

Is this a result of the phasing system, or just a severe lack of other players? Of course you see people around blacksmithing stations and the like, but outside of crafting areas I feel like I'm playing a single player game.

ESO has dropped over 250k subs in the last 3 months since release, and considering their *** poor decisions by ignoring the Beta testers cost them upwards of 2 million subs before they even released.

Is this really any surprise to you?

depending on the time of day its pretty lonesome on 1-49 as well.
It is pretty hard to level with other people do to phasing. One quest off and you're invisible

Veteran zone populations are a lot more sparse than 1-50 zones for various reasons. While it seems like more of a solo adventure in VR content, there are still a ton of people in lower level zones.

Feels like anyTES game. Not a bad thing necessarily.

The only time it feels 'lonely' is when you are getting your butt kicked by a huge group of fast respawning mobs, you don't want to corpse run past a series of them, and you find yourself wishing you had a group. Otherwise, it's fine. Even more fine given the VR nerfs.

Odd, because I see just enough people when and where I need them. A few here and there in delves and usually a few more than that on world bosses, dolem and public dungeons. To me it feel just about right for an MMO / RPG hybrid.
Brunhilda Icehammer - Nord Dragonknight, 'Smith & Enchantress 'What is 'ranged? I need to hit something!!'
Laehl Direthorn - Bosmer Nightblade, Purveyor of fine Clothes, Bows and Staves
Reeza gra-Zuni - Orc Templar 'War Shaman' and Apothecary
Noemi Snowpaw - Kajiit Dragon Knight - I laugh... or I'd have to kill you.
Kitera Dreamon - Breton of The Dominion: Because those Daggers don't appreciate a great Mage.
Lysara Shadowcroft - Dunmer Bloodmage: This will only hurt a lot.

I've seen enough people to finish all of the maps (dolmens, bosses, etc) through v9 so far. Perfect for me. I can't stand going into banks in certain cities and seeing 40 people standing around. I'd rather see 1 or 2. But that's me. My guild on the other hand is getting lonely. 4 trade guilds and one social guild.

I would not mind to have a companion though. one that is virtual and her gradients are made out of pixels. SWTOR like companion is all I need. a sweet, innocent girl like Vette telling me that I'm crazy. virgin of course, Altmer womer know their great importance in the Alinor' survival.

VR 5 is still lonely. They just nerfed the VR zones 3 days ago. So there are still people in lower levels but are starting to filter into VR1. Getting into VR5 is not going to be an overnight thing. Check out the early VR zones and finish anythign you may have missed and you'll see more people.

When I was in the v10 zone about 3 weeks ago, I think I only ran into 2 people outside of the city during the entire time it took for me to complete all the quests in the area for the quest completion achievement (2 people in random encounters, excluding dolmen groups formed over chat).

Now that the frame rate issue has been addressed with the recent hotfix, I imagine most active vet rank players are either back in Cyrodiil or grinding to VR12 in Craglorn.

I come across other players leveling up occasionally. It's enough to know that I'm not alone, but rare enough so I don't feel like I'm fighting for materials and EXP.

If you play at peak hours, it seems as if there are indeed enough players again to create at least one reasonably populated phase in most areas, even in VR zones. I don't feel as if I'm running around alone any more. That's good, and I mostly enjoy the informal grouping aspect of the game. If you just wait silently for anyone to pass by your area and help by spontaneously engaging in the exact same fight as you, you may have to wait for quite a while. However, if you ask in zone chat for help with a specific quest or boss, people usually respond.

I mainly play non VR now on my EU account, I see many players - just earlier today I was with 5 or 6 killing werewolfs.

That VR is empty is logical. Those that went there for the challenge don't find one, those that want to level go to Craglorn as its faster and easier.

This was there Original sales so far, and they have sold a little over a million copies world wide if you include digital sales.

    Physical and digital sales
VGChartz reports that in its first two weeks of release, Elder Scrolls Online has sold 300,000 physical edition boxes, which include the physical Standard Edition and physical Imperial Edition. These are physical game boxes sold by participating retailers worldwide.

    eda9ff017df21e3679ff37657eb06417aae46364.jpg

Breaking down this 300,000 physical sales count, more than half or 170,000 was sold in North America, a third or 100,000 was sold in Europe with the remaining sold in other countries.

Then we need to add the digital sales, which could be as much as triple the physical sales.

This was the April Launch report.

Since then, Subs have dropped like a rock, you can browse around and search for the info, but actually company statements will not be released due to Zenni being a private company, and not required to release such stats like other public companies such as EA.

This is due to the poor design of some parts of the game (not seeing other players etc.etc.), that makes it feel like a single player game. Secondly, they are adding too much content in an overexagerated shortly period, and by doing so, they drive powergamers and their friends, which have to follow them, into every new dungeon / new content (no time, absolutely no time to enjoy what you have earned so far) vs THE CASUAL GAMER (worried of playing too much) FLEEs. Thirdly, some 25%+ of players spend their time in Cyrondil. Forth, many aspects of the game are very confusing and everything else than easy to understand, so that you spend hours, days, weeks just to skill your character, + research on information in the internet. Also the handicap-console-hotbar-system really f..s players off. And last - not least, the imbalance of chars also f.. .off many, because they make the skill system in a way they even don't understand it anymore, only 4 classes --> there should be no inbalances but there definetely are. Least, vampires and other tricks to become "unkillable", to become "superfast in stealth", etc. etc., this is especially demoralizing for new players in PvP and can cause ppl to rage quit.
+ TESO seemed to have been done for Powergamers and that's how it felt but it is them who left. :)

The guy stating that 250k subscribes already left may be right, there are no official numbers, but you can find secondary source - statistical data that strongly suggests a decline in TESO-specific interests of 50-80%, see: search engines stats, fanbase user stats, etc. I will not further comment this..! (google)

Nonetheless the "experience" in game is one of the best MMOs ever published! So flamers and "all time kiddos" will leave the game and the remaining base, that will be just the nice guys!

You're one of the lucky ones, then. I've had to backtrack on dolmens and world bosses because, when I was going through vet content, I was lucky if I got one other person within 10 minutes. That was my cutoff before going on to another quest...
