ESO Isn't working for me anymore

Started up playing again and was working fine the past few nights. Updated today and then it wasn't running and the music would keep cutting in and out during the loading screen leading up to the character select screen and it just sits there forever. My computer said I needed to make space so I deleted most of my programs that I'm not using, which was a bit. I am so computer illiterate but I know it's not the internet because I can play other games, I don't know how to fix it... meh. :( I need a gaming desktop... I miss you ESO T_T come back to me you elusive maiden.

P.S. Anyone else experience this?/fix this?

Hi there, @musical_rina. We've moved your thread to the Customer Support section of the forums. :)

Does your launcher have an active (clickable) "Play" button?

Try checking how much space you have left on your individual partition(s) if you have more. You can do this by right clicking C drive and selecting "Properties", do the same for other drivers (D, E etc) if you have. I would recommend having at least 10GB free, more on the drive you have ESO due to the Regular patches.

Try deleting downloads, movies etc you don't use, uninstalling games you don't play etc. These take up the most space (an easy way is downloading CCleaner and uninstalling via that program).

Also, defragmenting the hard drive is well recommended occasionally ( I would say once a month but I do it after every patch if it fragments my game too much). A nice program for it is Piriform Defraggler. It will take several hours to complete probably so do it while you are sleeping / afk
or watching movies etc. You can set the program to shutdown the computer after it is done. (The need for defragmenting is because when you install/move/uninstall/download/delete stuff it'll fragments the hard drive, it can make programs slower as they access files slower etc.)

I'm not an IT expert so I might not be a 100% accurate in explaining but I do think that freeing up space THEN defragmenting would help, or at least be useful.

You might also wanna run an antivirus program but I doubt it is a virus.

Thank you Csub, I didn't think about doing all that. I used to do that with my old computer, so I'll definitely try this :)

There is one more thing you could try, which helped me with a lot of problems, delete or rename the UserSettings.txt and start the game again after.

Just made another topic about this, keeps happening with me after every single patch, somehow the game is remaking the sharedcache.cooked file, but in the process it got stuck. i have to restart the game like ten times but once the file is done it all works smooth. So my advice is to login, wait 15-30 sec on the loadng screen, altf4, check the file size, and repeat.

You're welcome, hope it (or any other suggestion) helps. Now that I think of it, I think instead of 10GB, it would worth having at least 20+ at least on the partition where the Windows can be found. And at least for the one with ESO on, if it is same with Windows, I would definitely go 30+!

    Good luck! :D

If defragmenting and double checking that your antivirus has an exception for ESO (very important!), please try and run a Repair on your game. You can do that by following the below steps:
    • Expand the Game Options menu (located under the News Section)
    • Click repair, and wait for it to finish

Also, DON'T defrag if you use a SSD!
