FPS Workaround #666

Go into settings, lower the value of particle density... that gave me an extra 10 fps, so 15 total, during a heavy battle.

It's not ideal... but it seems to work.

Ive had the most luck turning sound off and view distance. Very odd about the sound. So confused.

    Scratch that.

In really large battles I'm only seeing an improvement of 2fps over the 3 I was usually getting.

    :(

I know some folks were only getting issues in Cyrodil, but it was so bad for me just doing PvE in Rivenspire after the last patch that I had to turn all my settings to low just for it to be at all playable, the game now looks about 20 years old, and I still can't participate well at dark anchors because it slows right down.

I have a 3.4Ghz CPU and a 2Gb GPU, and am currently getting absolutely shocking performance. Last time I ventured into Cyrodil even with every graphics setting at its lowest and every optional graphics setting turned off I was getting about 2 fps around battles which is shockingly bad.

Right. This issue has lasted nearly 2 weeks now... Several failed patch attempts... That's $7.50 I wish I had back.

Had awful graphics lag in Riften last night, didn't have it with my previous EP character about three weeks ago.

If it's the new lighting system that's causing it then it needs to go, it's no use introducing some eye candy if its going to force players to lower their graphics settings and make the whole game look pants.

Exactly right, the lighting was fine before. I didn't hear a single person ask for improved lighting...

ZOS need to get off their rears and fix the base game.

Agree completely, if it is the new indoor lighting causing it then just let us turn off that feature and go back to how it was before - which for a lot of us, was high or ultra settings, and decent fps, and looked fine as it was. No point in having atmospheric stained glass windows shedding rainbow lights on the floor in Daggerfall Cathedral if we can't actually do Dark Anchors/Public Dungeons/PvP because of poor performance.

Yesterday just killed a whispmother in greenshade if i am not wrong, and as soon as she start casting the little whisps, fps droped from 65-70 to 7-8!
For me nothing worked to improve fps in battles in cyrodiil, sound or no sound, particle effect or no, high setting or low...still getting 2-4 fps in battles and still persists until relog or go in pve.

I submitted a ticket on the fps issue. Every time I battle anything, even a wolf my fps drop from 60 to five. During the whispmother battle a few days ago I had to fight her at five fps.... CS states they are working on a hot fix but until they get one the only option they have is for us to totally turn off all sounds in the game.

Not sure if it works. Some have reported on the forums it does. I also reported the memory leaks in game, in the launcher and on the character select screen we now have. According to CS sound is to blame for that as well. :/

It really has become overwhelmingly ridiculous!

When the fps hits the lowest, around 2 fps, I'm having ALL keyboard inputs cease to register... siege equipment can take upwards of 3 minutes to render and become usable!

    It's seriously messed.

My keys stop working as well. I have to hit ESC twice then most of the time I get my keys back, not always. It's crazy for sure and insane that the "fps hot fix" they rolled out a few days ago caused it. All it takes to tank my fps is an enemy to lock on me. They don't even have to hit me. I tested this with animals in the wild. They would lock as I moved by, I managed to get into sneak and get out of their lock line and the fps went right back to normal. Same with npc's. The new memory leaks are not helping. When you can watch the game use an additional 1 GB of memory on top of the normal in 30 seconds just because you had to kill an npc, something is seriously wack.

I have a friend I bit that cannot get through the vampire quest. After they kill 4-5 of the fiends they lag so bad they cannot do anything. It is a quest you cannot leave or you have to start over. They have turned every graphic setting to low and disabled sound. They have been trying for two days now..ugh...
