Imperial Motif---really worth 125k gold?

Of course it isn't "worth" it. To you. To most people.

If I had one, I'd put it up for 75k and see if someone bit. If I had two, I'd put one up for 125k and the other up for 75k so that someone with more gold than sense thought, hey, 75k is a steal!

And then I'd probably sit on the 125k one and relist it when it fell off. But if you didn't need another 75k right away (or, really, at all) then *shrug - it is worth what the market will bear and you just wait the listing out.

You argumentatively, and snidely (putting a smiley at the end of a sentence doesn't remove that) ask that people justify their answers and other nonsense.

Elasticity of a market, supply and demand and so forth are elementary concepts. They apply here. What something is *worth*, from fish sticks to oil reserves to a meaningless item in a meaningless game - it all comes down to competition or lack thereof and what people assign value to on their own. That isn't your choice. It is theirs.

You can ask for that to be said any number of ways, but all the answers will add up to the same thing. It is worth what people are prepared to pay. Offset by what people are prepared to sell it at. Its just as simple as that.

    :)

I found an imperial motif before they were color coded yellow, and i was HAPPY to get 40k for it. However, i did figure that by them making it gold, or yellow, that it would automatically increase in value, based upon that fact alone. I personally would never pay over 40k for it, IF i needed it. I mean, we arent talking something thats THAT amazing to look at. Now, if they come out with the 15th motif being Dwemer, then i might eat my own words and pay ungodly amounts for it

Paying 10K+ for any motif, that is, to simply to add an aesthetic option to your character, is just sky high ricockulous.

That being said, if I had an Imperial motif to sell, and someone offered me 125K for it, I'd happily do the trade o:)

For myself, there's no way I'd be buying one for more than 10K.
Opinions are like buttholes : Everybody has one, and they usually stink.

    3 things to reduce stamina/magicka imbalance :
    - Use magicka to block abilities costing magicka, instead of stamina.
    - Add % damage reduction to heavy armor.
    - Add block penetration to 2H.

    Its not worth that if:
    1. You can get it for less
    2. or you can live without it

Thank you for your response =)
However, why bother to even get it for less?

Why do anything? Either you want it or you dont. If you didnt want it then why bother posting a thread about it? Look, only you know how much you want it. No one can tell you that. If you want it 125k worth and no one will sell it to you for less then yes its worth it.

I say 125k is high, but 120k is workable. I've one for 120k if someone needs one. :)

Whatever the market will bear is the market price. Too many people sitting on millions already I'm sure.

That which we obtain to cheap we esteem to lightly, it is dearness only that gives everything its value.

The Imperial motif shouldn't be worth that much gold, probably just 30K instead of more than 100K. It isn't worth paying that much money when you can find it your self in veteran rank zones, or playing as an Imperial with the Imperial Edition. (That is what I do, Imperial has always been my favourite race in The Elder Scrolls  )

I am still wondering WHY people are even paying 35k for Imperial motif when it's easy to find an imperial crafter or upgrade (only $20) to Imperial edition? It should NOT be worth so much when it's a playable race.

Any item in the game is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

(Please respond to this question without stating the obvious: item worth is subjective to player, people have gold to burn, etc. This thread is to discuss/share opinions about this particular item.)

Those are opinions about the item. You don't seem to want to accept that people aren't as outraged as you are.

Whether its crafting/improving materials or motifs, people will pay what they consider the items worth. Is Columbine worth 80 gold each? If someone wants it badly enough, yes. If they don't, it isn't. It also isn't unusual for people to want to get as much gold for something as they can.

If I would have realized this motif would be so rare, I would have just made my clothier an imperial from the get go.

Sadly, she's a Breton, and though I can convert to imperial, I can't sell them once converted.

1/2 a level from max crafting with 6 traits learned, though, so too much time has been invested to start again. I'm willing to pay for this motif, but 125k is insane. Hell, even the 35-55k I see regularly is insane to me.

While I have the Imperial edition, my main toon and crafter is Khajiit.
Back on week 2 after release, someone was selling the Imperial for 5K gold. I bought it.

Having see the latest prices (90K last night), I regret I used it :P However I have equipped all my mates with Imperial style armours and weapons, so no prob there.

Off course it is not worth that much, but at the date the thread was made it may well have been worth it.

You all do realize that there is a 26 day gap in replies to the thread between @Tonturri‌ and @Inco‌ posts.

It's worth a 1,000,000 gold if someone pays that much, just like art.

Exactly, worth is a dynamic concept... and with general reference to the sale of goods or services, something is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it.

I agree with you both...but please justify why this playable race motif, even to those who need instant gratification or gold to burn, is worth so much? This is a game item, not art hehehe. Comparing art with this particular motif is not the best analogy, in my opinion.

Because its so rare to find. If people were finding 10 a week (like the blue motifs) it would only be worth 1200-1500 the same. Its the rarest item in the game, hence the highest price !
    What's not to understand ?

    :/

    >:) Hmm...this one wonders exactly how if at all the r n g may be affected by this exciting Justice System coming... o:)

Is the Imperial Motif really worth 125k? I understand that it is considered a very rare drop, but is it truly worth all that gold?!
It may be an ancient saying but it's as true today as whenever it was coined: it's worth what someone will pay for it.

This is one of things no one can answer, to some yes to some no, depends on the player and what they are looking for, I have seen things in chat going for 800k I would never pay for anything at that price, but that's just my opinion. I prefer to find the things in game myself, the more rare an item the sweeter the find. :)

Considering that ordinary motifs now go for 5-600 gold, I'm a bit surprised that Imperial Motifs still go for 50K+...

I'm still adding bank slots, but now my crafting is maxed and I am selling most of my drops and not deconstructing, the gold is relatively flowing in. If I hadn't found the book myself in Ragnthar during the Fighter's Guild quest that takes you there, I might have considered buying it.

The only thing really stopping me is, as another poster said, I prefer to find rare items rather than buy them. But I can see how gold isn't an issue for players at higher levels - the money sinks have mostly gone and there isn't much to buy...pots and provisions for raiding/PvP is about it, I guess.

This is how it works: don't buy it. If everyone agrees then the price drops. If people buy it, then it simply is worth that much. This is the basics. How much you think it is worth means nothing at all, the only thing that matters is what people are willing to pay.
