What is has your Cost Per Hour been to play this game?

Gamer's often talk about the value of games but I rarely see them take the time to break their game costs out into cost per hour. I like to use this as an indicator of value in my games. I don't actually care if a game has a sub or not, it's irrelevant to me. I only care that my dollars spent per hour played is reasonable.

It's a simple calculation...add up the the cost of your game plus your subscription fees paid, and then divide that by the number of hours you have played (type /played in the chat window for each of your toons to get this info).

In my case, it works out 19 cents for every hour that I've played ESO. Not a bad deal as far as entertainment value goes. Try that calculation on a trip to the theater or a night out on the town sometime.

Anyhow, I realize that I probably have a lot more time invested into the game than many so my cost per hour is definitely on the low side, but I'm just wondering what the cost per hour works out to for some of the rest of you.

    Imperial Edition: 79,99 €
    Fully used 30 days: 12,99 €
    17 of 30 days used: 7,36 €
    Current Total: 100,67 €

    Played time approximately 483.5 hours

    About 0.21 € per hour.

Since the bulk of that was initial price (only 12,99 of that were the free 30 days), the efficiency will only increase the longer I play.

At the Phillies game last night I spent $20 for parking and $36 for 4 beers. Doesn't include ticket price. Spent just shy of 5 hours there.

$15/month for ANY sort of entertainment is such a bargain it blows my mind how people can complain.

For ESO value, I'm still on my first 30 days of free play time. :)

    Game £30 and 3 month sub/let's say 2, though I have a month and a week left x approx 18 days played = 10.5p an hour.

    For US reference, that's 18c.

Would be cheaper, but I have had 2x weeks away since I subbed.

What a bargain. Cool thread too.

ETA - Kind of embarassed when I see how much of my free time is spent playing, but my highest level is still only VR5 (alts of L15 and L8).

I'm a freelancer. I was off when the game came out, so the cost was pennies per hour. Now that I'm working 12-hour days, I'm getting more like a quarter an hour. Still seems like a good deal to me.

I don't know if you work, but if you do then it's not always feasible to find outside entertainment that's free outside of work hours, even if you had the energy. Thank the gods for holidays, which meant two weeks without a PC in sight, but they weren't free.

As much I like ESO and other games, live entertainment with real food, real smells, real people, far exceeds any virtual form of entertainment. I tend to only compare games vs other digital content as far as entertainment value goes.

I'm perfectly fine with $15 sub fee though (prefer sub over f2p)

Umm I can't think of many one time purchase games that give me 400+ hours of contents.

Sure you can say sandbox games like Skyrim but those build it mod it style is not how I enjoy games. I enjoy progression.

I typically prefer sub over f2p as well but in this case despite the low cost per hour the quality of service from Zenimax does not cover the pennies I pay to play the game. The frustration caused by their incompetence makes me feel like I deserve to get paid to test their terrible patches.

However, I still sub to Eve and rarely play because the quality and support they give deserve the little I contribute in appreciation for their efforts.

The point is that most players that pay a sub understand there is a benefit to it, I just am not seeing the benefit from Zenimax, its more hassle then its worth TBH.

Ah, Skyrim with mods was exactly what I was thinking. If you enjoy scripted "follow the dots" progression, with little room for maneuver outside the box, then ESO fits the bill for you nicely.

Probably. I live by the coast in N. England (that's N for North not New lol) and today was a typical English summer's day. Temperatures that would be a fine average for March, constant drizzle until around tea time when the heavens really opened and added strong wind to the rain.

Lol this game has cost me .11 cents an hour. There is NO other payed entertainment that is this cheap. I was spending much, much more than that when I was playing the "F2P" SWTOR.

As to the original question, I have no idea.

I play a variety of MMOs throughout the year. Some are F2P with cash shops I use, some are subscription-based, some are F2P but I never spend a penny on them, and some are P2P with or without extra cash shop payments.

I know how much I pay out in total each month, or thereabouts, and all that concerns me is that I am getting good value over the course of the year for the money I'm spending. Even if I'm paying a sub one month but not touching that game, if the overall entertainment value covers the overall spend then I'm more than happy. Which I always am. This is a very cheap hobby compared to some.

Definitely much less from what I spend everyday.

Drinking with friends on friday night: 120 NZD within 6 hours
    Lunch everyday: $15-$17

List can go on. This is so much cheaper for entertainment for a few hours a day.

Wow, that's a pretty good lunch, mate. My husband gets ham and peanut butter sandwiches, that he at least doesn't make himself (I get up around 3 am every day, so it just gives me something to do. I volunteered. Oh, and he's a peanut butter junkie, anyway - he'd get disappointed if I didn't include at least one pb&j. The ham is also by request, even though I always ask what kind of lunchmeat he wants before I go shopping.)
