Maintenance for the week of October 5:
• [COMPLETE] ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – October 8, 8:00AM EDT (12:00 UTC) – 12:00PM EDT (16:00 UTC)
To make my Greek nature happy, I have this question:
For a General MMO server or mega server:
1) In detail, what type of "backed work" do they on maintenance days?
2) What type of database work and / or hardware work (replace / add HD's, ram, server clusters, etc)?
Would get the most detail as we can get or use another MMO as general reference how they do it.
Never seen any enterprise-level company disclosing this kind of information with any level of detail, since it's way too sensitive, both business- and security-wise. Take a look at the server racks in the picture in the last Road Ahead article -- they don't even show the fronts of the big irons, lest someone get's lucky guessing the brand of hardware they're using. Business secrets are only secrets as long as they stay secret...
Yeah, I know that ZOS will never tell us how they megaserver works, but they must learn it from a text book somewhere. That text book might gives us an general idea how a "mega server" might work or a server farm like in data center.
It's likely making sure nothing is leaking resources, testing to make sure everything is a-okay, and giving everything a flush to get rid of any issues.
