Nameplates Long Overdue

    It also gives you wha
The OP suggest that we should have the option to turn it on and off. Just because one person comes here with his firm opinion on not having it because it clutters up his precious UI space. I will state my firm opinion that we need it. As a healer this is *** annoying. I need to see names.

The only info missing is which guild you are in. All the other info about the player is available for you to see, if you bother to look.

As someone who also heals, but my main is DPS, you don't need nameplates to heal. There are health bars above everyone heads. What does having a nameplate have to do with healing?

Being able to see who that healthbar belongs to and identify the exact location of specific people, particularly those in trouble needing immediate attention, has a lot to do with healing optimally.

Since you can turn healthbars on on enemies regardless of whether they are wounded or not, I fail to see the need for the name in addition to the healthbar. If it has a red healthbar over it, it's an enemy.

(personally, I have all enemy healthbars turned on, ally ones are only on when injured)

would be nice if the target health bar was of different color for each class
Light blue for sorc, dark red for nightblade, yellow for templar and orange for DK..

Sometimes it's hard to tell the class, up until they use a class specific ability. For example, my 2h heavy sorc can only be identified if I use Power Overload :D

I remember in beta that the team had a post regarding what their stated vision was for the game (I cannot seem to find it now or I would link it). If I remember it correctly the statement, in essence, said that while this game was meant to be an MMO it was also envisioned even more to be an Elder Scrolls game. That is why they have tried to remain true to the look and feel of a minimal user interface.

The MMO influence does appear in places such as the existence of classes, chat and grouping mechanics for instance. However the team really wanted to preserve that Elder Scrolls feel as much as possible. Sure they did have nameplates and a mini-map at one point in the beta but they did away with those elements as design decisions.

I don't want my screen cluttered up with nasty floaty text, & I DO want to be able to examine people & read a biography or make a note for myself like "fun elf guy, great help in that tongue cave!"

I find that without nameplates its very hard for me to recognize or get to know people, which is unfortunate.

I suggest making it optional and have it off by default or open the API up to allow for a nameplate mod and in PvP don't allow nameplates on enemy players.

Add them to your friends list and Edit the note.
Darkness is the natural state of the galaxy. A light will not shine forever; one day it will burn itself out. Darkness, however, is everlasting and never expires.

optional - being able to toggle anything on or off puts decision in the hands of the player. i'll always vote for that!
