Potentially big bug - Lava Whip stealing EXP.

So, I have an addon that tells me how much exp I earn per kill and quest completion. I recently picked up the skill 'Lava Whip' and started to use it, and something really strange has been happening with it.
When I kill an NPC without using it, I get the usual exp gain, which is around 170ish at level 22. When I kill an NPC while using Lava Whip, I gain 5-7 exp per kill. I tested it on a few NPCs and its happened each time.
