DPS checks on bosses (Enrage timers in Trials, Dungeons, etc. )

It's a good test of whether the group is ready to move further or not. Makes you do other bosses to get gear. Somehow regulates progress.
However, classes and builds need to be balanced for that, because DPS-check is an excuse for raids not to want Nightblades, for example, or whoever won't deal high damage in later patches.
Also, I think in terms of WoW. Without cooldown on dungeons/trials, the progress regulation doesn't make that much sense.

The problem here is, while in WoW there are no real builds or equipment you can choose from. You play a DK, ok lets say, one skill line is for tanking other for DPS so you play the DPS for DPS and all other DPS DK will in 99.9% of cases use the same spell rotation and gear like you, unless of course they find/drop better gear with higher stats but there is no real build freedom, all is set and done for you, you only pick a way to go.

On the other hand, in ESO you pick a direction and build your way by customizing your character with different weapons, skills, armors. I think this is why the comparison cant be done here. So while in WoW the resource pool for all DPS DK is practically the same, their damage output only depends on the players use of them. So it is ok to have DPS checks in a game like WoW where you have no freedom choosing skills or armor you use - all is set for everyone, therefore everyone is chasing for the same gear and such. But look at ESO - just because Destro/Resto staves with Light Armor have the best damage output does that mean everyone is forced to play with them? I think it shouldnt.

It totally destroys the freedom the game offers.

Yes and no. I don't mind them so much, but ideally classes would need to be a little more balanced than they are now. I much prefer challenging mechanics versus dps checks.

Elfluck - Dunmer Dragonknight "When I will walk the earth again, the Faithful among you shall receive your reward: to be set above all other mortals forever. As for the rest: the weak shall be winnowed: the timid shall be cast down: the mighty shall tremble at my feet and pray for pardon."

Totally agree on the mechanics. Shada fight comes to mind. Great experience.

DPs checks already exist and are in game now

    Pretty much this.

The fact that there are parts of the game made for the best of the best , like the very concept of trials which if the devs develop will probably lead for even bigger cries for balance from the community, is one of the huge flaws in ESO.

But you're not the best of the best if you roll the fotm toon in a robe and a staff. You're just a baddie exploiting what is poor game design by the devs with botched passives that need to be fixed. That doesn't mean you're any good. Someone who rolls a NB dw and gets all the way through the vet zones is the best of the best. Not some guy who exploited his/her way to v12 then used the FOTM build for trials. FACT.

DPS checks on some bosses is a necessary evil. If you don't have them you can just heal bosses to death.
