Cold Disappointment with your Maintenance decision

There's a simple thing here.

You've lowered the time to 6AM USEST. It satisfies a group who were losing some time in the morning with a whole day ahead of them. The only people who suffer are a few Australians living in Perth, who merely lose.an.entire.night.of.play
after coming home from work. What a logical decision, punish the few who lose their entire gaming time to satisfy the many who have the entire day ahead of them.

#edit: Time to read or something.

What the hell. I mention that the Aussies whine every maintenance about the same tired issue. Then tell the OP to go play the Australian based MMO that has servers based in his country. And in less than 4 minutes its deleted. Way to monitor posts about issues. If your response time to the constant in-game issues and billing debacle had been as fast maybe you wouldn't be bleeding customers at a rate not seen since the NGE in SWG.

Let's see here, I assume the majority you refer to are either unemployed or on shift because at 8AM in the morning I expect that a working American would be at work or on their way to work. If they are unemployed I repeat "You have your whole day ahead of you". I don't get to play at all, which means that, the American majority or not, people in my timezone, on the US server, are being treated unfairly.

Alternatively if a Dev pops up and tells me that I can move my characters to the European Server, I will happily do so and avoid this BS.

Wasn't me. I have no idea who did that, tho the Devs have been pretty quick to edit or delete posts they think people will be upset about.

The official post regarding regular maintenance still has it listed as 8am EDT. My assumption is that the early downtime is not planned as a regular occurrence (despite happening the last two weeks).

Honestly I am happy either way, as long as we are kept up to date of regular maintenance times. Saying it is normally at 8am then always dropping it at 6am is not helping anyone. If I know it won't be up after 6am then I'll know not to bother trying to play before 8am.

Oh and David: I got to read that post before it was deleted. It was merited. Try to be a bit more constructive next time. Forum mods know that server downtime is when they need to be on high alert. Good to see them doing their job.

If it's any consolation, at least it was mentioned at the top of the forum a few hours prior this time. http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/75114/regular-maintenance-days-times still needs updating if this is going to be a regular thing though. IIRC last week had one at 6am and one at 8am so perhaps alternate times is a compromise for Oceania and US.

The red post at the top of the forums, stating 6AM, was up when I got home from work, so I knew it was coming hence the pre-shutdown post. 8AM I can live with 6AM I cannot.

Someone in a different thread mentioned that a lot of Americans had whined about not being able to play in the morning. I have a solution for my issue (transfer characters to EU server) they just need to implement it, one day, in the fullness of time.

No, I know unemployment in the US is up around 10%, hence I did not say "Get a Job". But other than my solution, which I can implement myself if I'm willing to start from scratch, it is still unfair to deny one set of players their game time for a group which might have the rest of the day.

@Woolenthreads, I was suggesting many of the players of this game probably aren't old enough to have jobs, or they're at college. If you look at the demographics of MMO players, and amount of people in the US, you should see why they want to avoid the 'working day'.

It'd be totally worth having a AAA MMO game solely in Australia. Not because we need it but because of the griping that would come, not because of Maintenance d/t's but because of the Australian Governments "World Class" internet communications concept :D (Yes, my dear Americans that is sarcasm directed against our *dripping now* dearly beloved Government)

    I don't understand this.

The time is set to be 8 am.

I log in to get research / a few other things done before I leave for work... so when it is changed, I lose the entire day. I'm not really able to log in from work to do these things.

I even just went and checked the official downtime thread in order to make sure it had not been changed on me, and it has not been.

    What's going on here? :/

I am also in perth, the difference is though I don't view 6pm on a monday as prime time. If you work you should get home about 5 pm given the kwinana and mitchell freeways are rubbish, have a shower cook some dinner sit down and eat do some stuff around the house.

What time is it by then? at least 7 pm. Primetime in Perth should be 7pm to about 9:30 pm, what time do the servers normally hit maintance? 8 pm so that is more of a hinderance than them going down at 6 pm, traditionally how long are the servers down ? I find that they are down for about 2 hours give or take.

My point ? Well if you find that 6pm is a problem you either don't work or you study therefore you get all day to play or you at least get half an afternoon too, for the working West Aussies 6 pm on a monday is not prime time playing, later in the night is.

Surprise I am writing this post at 7pm after I finished doing all the house duties and maybe I'll watch game of thrones and at 8pm play eso, if the maintenance does not exceed the traditional length to complete. Sorry if you find this annoying im sure there are a lot that don't.

I don't like either time, this one more than the last, but guess when I play on NA server from Russia that's me to blame:P
However, when official thread happily states scheduled maint is at 8 their time, I plan my day accordingly and then I get a popup about a scheduled maint 2 hours before that...well, this is a bit annoying. Either 6 is just too similar to 8 in appearance or there's some misunderstanding about word "scheduled". Whichever the case, maybe they should take 2 mins and change smth so it at let starts making some sense.

this would be true if every American were successful adults, Unfortunately The population that would be playing this is heavily teenage to late 20's, Service industry practically runs off this age group, and things like holidays, 9-5 work work week, weekends off? nope not for us. My schedule is in more states of change than Sithis himself. i may get one or 2 hours of play time, and yes sometimes I don't get to play some days because of maintenance. I call those clean my crap days. I just got done dusting my comp.....it was horrible, need to do that more often

Funny. Most large MMOs have an Oceanic based server for situations like this. The fact that Zeni does not, shows a unique lack of forward thinking.

I think there is a bit more to it than that. You also have to remember that they have their own budget. ZOS is a brand new company, and although Zeni/Bethesda are successful companies, pretty sure companies like blizzard and others have had time and money to get it right.

Publishers have to keep in mind that this game actually might not do as well as they originally thought, so decided not to have more than 2 servers, because of the budget they gave to ZOS. the few MMO's that I know that have had multiple servers like this never released them all at once. Oceanic might be in the future, but ESO will still have to compete for its place to grow among the other MMOs

The issues here will never Change. Zeni can't or won't stick to a schedule, causing many people to feel targeted so what can be done from our side. One unsub, Two complain, which hasn't gotten anyone anywhere thus far, Three Zeni to wise up, yea like that will happen, and put a server based on Aussie time, or lastly suck it up and move on.

I am a disabled retired Vet and my main game time is during the day, which I am having a hard time with the current guild I am in, but that is another story. I do not mind maint. in the morning, it allows me to say do other things things then just plug into a world that isn't real. Perhaps people need to unplug for a few days and look around for other things to do. Personally I am a home brewer on top of other things so I keep myself busy why can't you.
