Game Freezes and Locks Up My System

I am having my system lock up completely at random times in the game. The game freezes and I am unable to do anything but cold start my system. During this time my system fans are running extremely fast.

The only pattern I have seen is that these crashes seem to happen more frequently during busy times (like today). As of this post this problem has occurred 6 times today- sometimes after a minute or two while other times I can actually play for about ten minutes or more.

One thing I wanted to add is that my drivers are up to date (ATI).

If your fans are spun up it means the CPU is hot and it is trying to cool off. Have you checked for dust build-up? Be sure to check the CPU heatsink beneath the fan. If not, scale down the graphics. For some reason in ESO higher graphics settings eat up CPU instead of GPU.

There are a lot of people getting this. There are some threads that offer some fixes, for some people the work and some they don't. I'm one of the people they don't work for. Lots of people claim the problem is on the users end and ZOS staff will only point to the support section or give you the "keep you busy" check list. Sadly, this started for most people with the 1.2 patch. For me, If I can log in at all I will crash whenever I try to zone. All we can hope for is a maintenance patch that actually fixes the problem.

Well this was always like this in the beta. I used to play on max settings, but my fans kept going nuts, and I would occasionally get a blue-screen where my second core would have frozen. Turned things down a hair and no issues. Turned them down some more and no fan spin-ups. Seems odd as heck that graphics settings use CPU. Wait, is this built on the original Doom Engine?!

By definition, an over-heating system is a HARDWARE fault or design problem, it's nothing to do with software.

It's probably because you are in group. Group is now mega buggy... :(

I turned off my addons and now use only Wykkyd Framework and FTC and I don't have freezes anymore.

The problems that I have had with crashes seem to have started recently; likely since the 1.2 patch. Last Sunday is when I noticed the problem occurring so often that it would make it hard to play. Sometimes though I can play for a while without a problem happening so I am not sure what is causing it.

However I am positive it is not my hardware. I have played several other games without issues so it seems likely that this game is one of the problems.

I will definitely turn down my graphics to see if that helps. Could someone please point me to the threads that have others suggestions? I did try to search for my issue and I didn't see anything that seemed to match.

    Thanks!

    You might need drivers.
