Do we have a fail game or a fail community?

I personally feel that the game is fine and the developers need to open up to more constructive advices, though the community got a tad bit impatient. Impatient is completely normal, as we all pour our hearts into the game and of course we want the game to be worthy of our time.

Reading recent posts do however made me feel that some of the members here are really overdoing it by calling for unnecessary nerfs or simply chanting for ESO to fail. Some would even rage on what I feel is the nature of a simple game be it MMO or not.

Personally if I don't like vegetables, I just eat something else and wouldn't torture myself. I'm pretty sure if you give them a formal email asking for a refund, you'll get back your money.

So here's the question. I'd like to see what do you guys think.

Love the game but it doesn't exactly foster a thriving MMO community. You can't make a game so solo-centric and expect otherwise, IMO.

The game is hardly alone in this in modern times, tho.

And I wouldn't exactly call it a "fail." Yet.

    needs improvement from both sides.

zenimax need to be more open about the ideas they are thinking of implementing to address common issues.

the playerbase needs to chill out some - development takes time. but it's easy to get frustrated when the first sign we see of an answer to our problems is patch notes after a "fix" is implemented.

we need more dev/player discussion - or at least dev feedback. once a month is not enough, weekly updates on current "hot issues" would be appreciated.

@Fleymark‌ "Fail" might be exaggerating, I have to agree.

@smokes‌ Yep! Couldn't agree more! I've been posting so much about the player-developer communication I lost count!

there does appear to be a lot of people here who resort to personal insults if someone disagrees with their point of view. But on the whole this seems a more mature crowd that I am used to in MMO forums.

Everyone here knows when they have been lied to. Aside from the bugs I think one of the big things is we felt lied to about grouping and quest mechanics. From there it was a short trip to getting a bit angry over the prices and poor launch condition of the game. Topped off with hitting the bargin bins in under 90 days and the poor decision of ninja nerfs people feel robbed and understandably so.

    in all honesty it's both.
dev's for not being so open of how they are dealing with things+lack of actual fixes
public for the fact they expect everything so now now now. tho they DO have the right to complain when things arent working but nothings being done or said about it while the devs have a right to not share information.

hopefully the dev's note that Valve's game DOTA has a VERY huge reputation with not communicating with it's public that they get flame forum posts on a regular basis
PLEASE REPLY TO ME WITH @dsalter otherwise i'm likely to miss the reply if its not my own thread

Do you think all the constructive posts are met with polite open minded players or do you think the attacks come from both sides of the isle?

From what I have seen, the "haters" attack the game most of the time.

The "fanbois" attack the posters most of the time.

If someone posts great things about the game, you will see "haters" bash the game, not the poster, most of the time.

If a "hater" insults the game, most "fanbois" do not counter point about the game, they go straight for the insult of the poster.

    Here is a prime example:

While the game has its share of fail, the toxicity of the community, and of mmo communities in general is abhorrent.

The quantity of self entitled impatient twits is startling, and those who demand all the features and setups of older established MMOs in a new one, and how the old ones are sooooooo bug free and perfect.

Whining from certain elements of the community caused ZOS to make some poor decisions in regards to the game. Hopefully they will learn from this and stop catering to the whims of the media.

Go to any game forum post-release and its the same story anymore. The game has some issues, but so does every game.

Unfortunately, there is always a segment of immature players out there in every game that feel a game should cater specifically to their wants in all avenues. This group basically throws a tantrum when they can't get things their way, which is largely what you see on the forums.

Yes, the game has issues, but mature adults should be able to articulate those issues in a constructive manner. The devs are not going to listen and act on forum rage as they are also all too familiar with it.

I don't have a problem with ESO, simply because it fits pretty much exactly how I want to play a game.

I voted the other way, but I would agree to this.

There is an entire segment of gamers that have been screaming from YouTube to Timbuktu rooting for this game to fail since early beta just on the f2p issue alone. They don't want to pay a sub fee or just happen to prefer microtransactions so they are just hell bent on dragging down any game that doesn't go that way.

Still, I voted as I did because this problem isn't unique to this game. Most modern gamers are chicken little petty whining turds. Go watch an angry Joe video and you will see what I mean.

But devs can't release half finished grossly imbalanced bug riddled games and confirm all the haters hate (even though the legit problems aren't even things the haters were hating on) and expect the game to hold up.

In fact, I'm of the opinion that the industry needs to seriously address the sad state that most games release in now. Because releasing unfinished buggy games is now part of the business model to the point that people expect it. It would not be tolerated by any other industry yet, for some reason, it's accepted business as usual in this one.

Release a turd don't be surprised that your community is full of turds.

Releasing a game with no Auction House? No instanced PvP? No instanced solo dungeons so you must fight bots or other players to try and finish it? No way to help your friend with his quest in a *** MMO?

I don`t think anyone expected EVERYTHING older MMO`s have, but the basic things should have been here... without them its just a glorified Single Player.

The community is not pleased about that or the fact that they never advertised it as such... when you say MMO you expect to be able to group up and do quests together.

Both are exactly as you'd expect. Given it's an MMO at launch, and people by nature are whiny and spoiled and expect everything to be done perfectly. Meanwhile the majority of players are out and enjoying the game :p

You have to have a good, stable game for a community to rally around. It's up to the company to build a solid game that keeps interest and people subscribing that will in turn foster a loyal, good community.

I have said as you can probably see, but I actually think its a bit of both. Honestly, right now on ESO the community here sucks. Trust me on this. I come from a game where the community used to be amazing. And though that games community is now a shadow, a wraith [to give you folks a clue as to the game I speak] of its former self, its community STILL outshines what you have on ESO. Partly its down to the cut-throat nature of this game. It tries to be all about team-work and grouping and yes, there are some things that require it. But the thing is this game does not seem to like players actively teaming up. The phasing issues are well documented by now to back that up. Construe that with the bot issues, the constant struggle to gear up/craft up, and the broken elements of classes, not to mention the periodic [yet to be expected] quest bugs and people are just getting hecked up because of it.
