TBH like all MMOs, or in fact most games, the tips you need are often based on what type of player you are and how you want to play the game and what you're looking to get out of it.

It may be worth your while browsing a fan site such as http://elderscrollsonline.wiki.fextralife.com/Elder+Scrolls+Online+Wiki or http://tamrielfoundry.com/ to get some basic idea of what the game can offer.

If you give some idea of the type of game-play you like, the types of characters you create in RPGs, etc. that would give a starting point for some more specific tips before you being playing at all.

    mattdukichub17_ESO,
When you play through the tutorial take time to loot everything (all the containers you can find). You will find enough provisioning mats, lockpicks, and other useful items to help you out.

So I picked a nightblade because I wanted to use a bow and be all stealthy and stuff like I did in Skyrim, but...there arent any bows around here, I can't find any. I tried using a 1-h sword but I keep dying bc no damage :/ . Did I pick a bad class? Seems like im being forced to use a staff I got from a quest lol.

There are some awesome starter guides online that will give you a leg up. They provide some hints and tricks that will simply give you an upper hand on your first account. Also, regarding the bow. Find a wood crafting station and make one

You didn't pick a bad class, although some will tell you NB is underpowered. As for me, I love playing one. My NB is an archer too, and there are definitely bows to be had. Many will come as quest rewards, and you should have gotten one as a reward for the tutorial through Coldharbour. That being said, your best bows will be the ones that you craft or that are crafted for you.

Oh, and regarding dying a lot? You're going to do that. Everybody dies a lot. Just be sure to stock up on soul gems and fill them so you don't always have to spawn at a wayshrine and run all the way back to the fight.

After completing the tutorial area, you will get an urn or container as a reward from the Prophet. Find it in your inventory and "use" it, the urn will contain a slightly better than "starter" bow and some armor.

best bit of advice? IGNORE THE FORUMS, its full of unsubbed miserable trolls that have already left and want to burn it all down, so, play as you want, when you want and enjoy, I play NB hybrid Bow build and im VR4, yes it has problems, but I can still solo 90% of the maps at level, fixes are on the way, should (finger's crossed) be sorted by time you get to VR.
Very hard to find a bow in prison area, wait til you leave, either will get one as a reward ( as has been stated) or they drop plenty from trash mobs all over the world.

My advice is also about the forums, stay as much away from here as possible cos of the negativity. Read guides, watch videos and figure out the game a bit, what your take on it is, and then maybe safe to read this forum sometimes :D

I do not know if the BLOCK and INTERRUPT feature were already implemented in previous elder scrolls games, but in this game it took a little while for me to get right, but helped a lot about the dying/fighting.

Other than that, I hope you enjoy ESO ^^

    TIP OF THE MONTH

For the rest: do the tutorial islands, explore because 50% of the quests are hidden and if you play this like a wowclone you'll probably be bored. Don't be in a hurry, levels come slower and that's the best part of the game. Craft and gather, look for lorebooks and chests. And have fun

You can swap weapons at level 15 but level both weapon early by getting one skill of each weapon and drag it in your bar. Although below level 15, you are only using one weapon but you are leveling both weapon at the SAME time.

NB Bow is not bad to start with. Hmm tips...

Unlock first skill on every class skill lines and put them on your action bar, this way you will raise the level of them all every time you kill and return quest and then you will be able to pick the skills from any of them as you like.

Your damage for the bow comes of course from the level of the bow but your stamina, so you might want to put some points in there. You can respec later.

Unlock silver bolts from fighters guild as soon as possible it will be very valuable skill to have through the fighters, mage, main quests.

Switch on auto loot, saves a lot of time in the long run not having to press E followed by R every time, esp helpfull in the very start, when your looting everything.

I can't even stress how important this is. Silver Bolts is my single most-used still of all of them, for all of my toons. It's fast, it's powerful, and it drops most Daedra and undead to the floor. And though it's not a consideration, it looks really cool too. It does use a lot of stamina, though, so be sure to build up on your stamina and have some foods or potions handy. But by all means, get this skill!

In the beginning don't go spending loads of Skill Points on Active Skills, passive are as much if not more important. Wear mixed armour even if just to level the skill lines (choose the one NOT to use depending on your play style and the passives provided)

Ok so Silver Bolts will be a top priority for me then, and now I was thinking, should I start with crafting? Ive done some woodworking and even blacksmithing, but nothing else so far.

@mattdukichub17_ESo, if I may suggest, Provisioning will level without any points, don't waste them unless you really want to cook high level recipes. When you get to it, researching more than one item at a time is a big help.

yeah craft all the stuff you need. When it will begin to be important spending SP in crafting, you can decide what to level and what not (but that won't probably be a problem till level 16).
You level crafting by deconstructing items not creating them, so never sell anything outside of trash and mats you don't use
  • Whisper292
    Whisper292
    ✭✭✭
You can't sell most of the mats anyway, except for some higher level ones for a few gold. Better to put anything you don't use into a guild bank for others to use.

That's another thing: find a nice guild. They have all sorts of guilds for all sorts of purposes--social, trading, adventuring, you name it--and you can be a member of up to five at once. Just make sure you don't get into a guild that was created just so the guildmaster can have more bank space. This doesn't include the Fighters and Mages guilds, by the way. They don't count in the five. What I'm talking about is player-created guilds.

Hey all, little update here, I decided to make a sorcerer and it has been far more enjoyable for me than NB. Currently level 15 on him, but I feel underleveled as I am in stormhaven and most things there are level 16-17. Is there a way I can level easier so that I dont get pubstomped here?

I find provisioning is helpful, especially the recipes that give health, since I put most of my attribute points into magic.

Also their is a Mundus stones that boost health and armour.

Exploring ALL the zone and discovering all the locales, gives XP. Opening locked chests gives XP. Some achievements (usually tied to Public Dungeons) give XP.
Also, at your level SPs are more important than the actual levels, a lvl 15 with 18 SP is a lot less efficient than one with 25

But it's weird, I am always overleveled for the zone I am in
Also, running a heavy Armor 2H sorcerer myself and have no problems with 2-3 mobs up to 3 levels higher than me, but I don't know your 'build' so hard to comment

    Google the combat mechanics.
So many players get to veteran rank 3 and hate the game because everything suddenly starts killing them.. they hate the game.. but they aren't blocking... they're spamming abilities.. and aren't swinging their swords.
