Maintenance for the week of January 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – January 6
• NA megaservers for maintenance – January 8, 4:00AM EST (9:00 UTC) - 8:00AM EST (13:00 UTC)
• EU megaservers for maintenance – January 8, 9:00 UTC (4:00AM EST) - 13:00 UTC (8:00AM EST)

WTF Maintenance?! Get your Act together ZOS, im sick of these COMPLETLY random downtime's.

They should just start planning to shut the servers down around 3-5am EST. I do agree though 15min warnings is just not enough. An hour minimum unless it's an emergency.
  • ttwinklerub17_ESO
would you would rather have no maintenence days and just patch whenever without any notice
they can do that - it's part of the agreement you signed on for
    - they can crash the system - no warning
    - then patch - saying server is down - we are fixing it and do regular maintenence at same time

the fact is they took down the servers early(probably for a long patch and test) - it's early morning most people in NA asleep
so it would impact the fewest people

so you rather they do at scheduled time and go long and affect more people during the day?

I agree that posting this info is nice. However I am going to link a part from the Terms of Service. You may not like it but there it is:

    6. Availability of Services and Content; Game Maintenance, Patches, Updates; Termination of Services

ZeniMax does not guarantee that any Services will be available at all times, in all countries and/or geographic locations, at any given time, or that it will continue to offer any particular Services for any particular length of time. Except as prohibited by applicable law, ZeniMax reserves the right to change and update Content without notice to You. ZeniMax also reserves the right to refuse Your request(s) to acquire Content, and to limit or block any request to acquire Content, including, but not limited to, Downloadable Content, for any reason.

ZeniMax may patch, update, or modify at any time with or without notice to You. Notwithstanding the foregoing, ZeniMax has no obligation to make available any patches, updates or modifications or correct any errors or defects in the Services. ZeniMax makes no guarantees about the persistence or availability of any user names or other personas at any time and assumes no liability for lost or deleted Account data. Except as prohibited by applicable law, You agree that ZeniMax will not be liable for any interruption of the Services, delay or failure to perform, any loss of Content (including, but not limited to, User-Generated Content and Downloadable Content), and/or Account data (including, but not limited to, Character data) resulting from any causes whatsoever. ZeniMax reserves the right to offer new Services, change and/or discontinue certain Services at any time in its sole discretion.

So there is the legal jargon. Perhaps not good for customer relations to not post the early start. Here is a link to the Terms of Service:

I don't get the aggression towards people who complain about this. It's like a personal level aggression, people who complain get attacked for having no life or being mentally unstable or for their subscription dollar being meaningless next to the powerful US subscription dollar.

People can complain about things they see as unfair if they have a reason to. This isn't some weird fascist state where people are not allowed to complain. Others should respond to the reasons why we are complaining, and stop attacking us for complaining.

If you sat down at 8pm to play on a Saturday night and found out that without any warning you can't, you would be pissed. But when it happens to someone else, you're like "suck it, you worthless turd."

So what if I have no life? Some people's life sucks. So what? Why does that mean I shouldn't enjoy a computer game?

I don't think anyone's saying ZOS doesn't somehow have the "right" to take the server down; of course they do, it's their equipment/property (just like our characters, which the TOS probably states they can do with whatever they want). It's the fact that they're just shoddy when it comes to communication. Even if it was an emergency service, at least post a quick message saying as much.

I enjoy ESO for the most part, but Zenimax really isn't doing anything to endear themselves to their subscribers. Hopefully they'll get it figured out better with time.

I will repeat myself from the other thread on this topic:

Sometimes emergencies will happen and out of schedule downtime will happen. And I don't really mind the scheduled downtime - its a lot safer to do backups and upgrades on a non-changing system.

BUT ... if its a scheduled downtime its unprofessional to randomly to move the time and not give proper notification. Come on ... the F2P game PathOfExile communicates much better, eg giving accurate and complete patch notes, daily updates, accurate times down, and even estimates on when the servers will be up and if they think they go over their ETA they update to a new ETA.

yes yes, the TOS say they can treat us as crappy as they want, and we agree to be treated crap. thank you so much for reminding us. but that doesn't mean that we aren't being treated crap, does it?

Most MMOs tend to have some form of downtime so that standard maintenance, fixes, patches and other things can be applied to the server.

The more stable a game becomes, the less fixes need to be deployed...server downtime is only then needed for maintenance usually. And the more expertise a developer gets at it, they start figuring out ways of deploying fixes via hotfixes which don't require downtime or just require server restarts. Blizzard moved from having lengthy maintenance which was often extended for hours, through to today where they can push out hotfixes any time and you can go weeks with just a server restart.

I don't mind the down times as long as things are getting fixed. I agree it's annoying to plan your calendar and play time around communicated maintenance hours only to have them changing those times on a regular basis with minimal communication. They did mention it on the launcher but not everyone looks at their launcher all the time when playing. Best to stick with a time so everyone knows when it is.

it's not a life or death situation, and it says nothing about a person's ability to deal with life that they want to complain about problems they perceive with a service.

Maybe it was critical that they had to start it now and not wait the additional two hours.

They couldent watch the Anom farming groups any longer.

I think so too. I saw a VR2 on Friday hit VR7 on Sunday. I doubt he played 24/7 over the weekend. Anomaly farming makes leveling almost trivial and meaningless. I doubt that's what ZOS devs were going for in the game.

I myself thought about going on tonight then reminded myself about maintenence day and then decided against it - knowing full well things might be unpredictable on this day
    -
the fact they cannot give some notice even a few hours before in very inconvenient ...also not having an estimate of any downtime so players can arrange their own playing schedule ..like arranging groups and friends on

or when they can go online so they can make the most of their morning or day off work

I agree zenimax could have someone do at least some early notification

it's not a life or death situation, and it says nothing about a person's ability to deal with life that they want to complain about problems they perceive with a service. stop infantilising and attacking customers for complaining about a service we are paying for.

Did you even read the OPs post. And btw NO, it's ridiculous and childish to write a post like that. Yes it does say something about a persons ability to deal with change, which includes life or death. Cry in your Cheerios . Oh and btw I am a customer too. Hall monitor much?

Hi there, everyone. We understand that emotions can run high at times, but please refrain from personally attacking each other.

Also, there is an existing thread for discussing the server maintenance, which can be found here: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/109104/how-about-consistency-in-server-downtimes. We encourage everyone to please continue this conversation (albeit more civilly) in that thread. Thank you for your understanding, and your patience!
