Do Puzzles Affect Immersion Within Game?

use google. I like to use my brain and encourage them to include more puzzles and things to solve. I'm the person who actually reads the book so I don't get knocked back like a fool when combining materials in this game.

Puzzles are showstoppers to immersion? I hear you, the gall of ZOS requiring any thinking on our part.

I've only found one puzzle that required any thinking, and you know what, my brain didn't explode. Mind you I like the Professor Layton games, now those are puzzles.

I like the puzzles and I think they increase my immersion in 99% of the cases. Read the quest dialogue, the answers are there.

Um...wait...you mean those "you must hit 4 button out of these 12, the symbols for the 4 are drawn on the wall right in front of you" style things?o_O Like...seriously? No offence, but you have to Google THAT? I think I've met like...2 puzzles that a 6 year old couldn't solve within 2 minutes so far.
(not to mention if you ask them, NPCs tend to give you 2/3 of the answer, just in case looking at that wall is too much work for you)

I really wish there were some actual PUZZLES that involved more than comparing drawings on the wall to those on the floor, but I imagine then people'd complain even more.

    Need MOAR puzzles.
Force weapon swap to have priority over EVERYTHING. Close enough.
Make stamina builds even with magicka builds.
    Disable abilities while holding block.
Give us a REASON to do dungeons more than once.
Remove PVP AoE CAP. It is ruining Cyrodiil.
Fix/Remove Forward Camps. They are ruining Cyrodiil.
Impenetrability needs to REDUCE CRIT DAMAGE. Not negate entire builds.

    Everyone:

... perhaps I am in the minority, but when I encounter puzzles in ESO — especially some of those found in the higher zones and elsewhere — it throws me completely out of the experience.

Instead of enjoying the exploration, combat and lore, which immerse me, I find myself treating puzzles as if they were a crappy jobs that I need to pay the bills and nothing more.

Yes, yes, I know. One can usually Google or YouTube the solutions, or even use chat, but, still, it totally throws me out of the gaming experience.

So, to sum things up, this is sort of a cross between a complaint and an observance. Nothing to lose any sleep over, but worth mentioning to see if it's just me, or if there are other puzzle haters out there, too.

Wouldn't be an elder scroll game without puzzles, the ones I have ran into so far take a little thinking but you can get them.

I wish there where more puzzles sometimes.

More complex ones would be nice.

I understand that certain aspects of the game are not for everyone. I'm not sure I would count this immersion breaking other than your own action to Google the answer.

I personally would love more of these types of challenges in the game, with a certain level of variety. Only so many lever and pressure plate puzzles before that will get old too. I would really like multi-person puzzles; I think there was one in a public dungeon to start the group challenge.

Maybe if there is always a brute force way around the puzzle that would satisfy both our takes.

First time I have ever heard someone complain about puzzles. Elder Scrolls always had puzzles here and there in the games. There are not a lot of them - I personally wouldn't mind seeing more. To me its a break from the questing. They are usually not very hard at all - there is always a hint somewhere - but still feel good after solving it.

The only puzzle that bugged me was in the Alikir Desert. Like every other puzzle in the game, the clue is in the dungeon somewhere. However, the frame of reference was off on that one so it was hard to get things the way that they needed to go. Plus the mobs respawned rather quickly in that place.

Lucky I never have to do that one again. Oh, wait, Caldwell's Quests, dang it, I have to do it at least two more times.....

If you cant figure out the SIMPLE puzzles in the game...... you should go back to school and shape up on reading comprehension and maybe work on some basic observation skills. For every puzzle the answers are usually in plain sight.

+1 on lots more puzzles. And harder puzzles, please. Preferably random or procedurally generated ones that can't be googled. With serious consequences--dead, zoned out of the instance--if you fail.

    I like puzzles.

I want more puzzless !, I loved all the quest with puzzles on them, but I can understand that some people dont wanna think while they are playing a game so ...maybe put puzzles only in secondary quests?

I personally love the puzzles and wish there were more of them. I just don't get why anyone would be playing this game if they're just looking to speed rush through the story-line quests, not have puzzles, not read dialogue or books... I just don't get that form of play from anything in the ESO world.

I liked the one in a graveyard in Bangkorai where you had to figure out the names and professions of four dead people.
Well, it's a quest, not a puzzle but I had to take a pen and some paper to write things down. That's something I would love to see more in this game.

Took the time? They might have been perusing old threads, or did a search for, say, puzzle for whatever reason, saw a post in your 2 month old thread and responded. I've done it many times--better than posting a completely new thread, and as long as the subject isn't obsoleted, what's the issue?

Well, of course your immersion gets ruined if you Google the solution! If you do them the way they're supposed to be done, it increases immersion, at least for me - and reminds me of the rest of the TES series as well as those classic adventure games I played in the 90's.

    Puzzles are awesome.

I was using a search related to topic and found this. Didn't really take time, too bad some people don't bother to try it. Why start a new discussions if one exists already? I'm really sorry though if this discussion was meant to be forgotten.

The best example of a puzzle in any TES game I have played was in ESO, in Evermore the Bangkorai city, where you have to work out who each of the people on the gravestones were for this lady and her research. Super immersive and interesting- I was sitting there for half an hour with a paper and pen doing it. More like that please ZOS!
