The reason ESO went half price

When I was a retail manager, I didn't need manufacturer permission to mark items down below MSRP. Of course, doing so would drastically reduce the profit margin. Sometimes a specific manufacturer would have a promotion, and then we would have to mark down items because of vendor agreements.

Okay. So, a retailer marking the boxes down might mean the boxes aren't selling well *at that particular retailer*. Still, the correlation suggested by the OP is a fallacy.

No. Greenman didnt droo. Just like on eso game launch weekend. They offer a 20% off coupon on top of store price. That is why they have always been tbe cheapest place to by eso.

And they are offering it again, coupon. I got the email, says use it for eso, final fantasy or any game I like.

Someone lowers a price, competitors do the same. I'd expect if Amazon especially lowered the price others would too.

And as others have said, common for games to lower prices after initial launch.

Not really a big deal. At all. If anything, it's good, as more people will now buy it ahd subscribe.

What is a big deal is the nasty, gloating way so many of you take joy in construing every problem, bug or freaking price change in the worst possible light.

Why are you actively rooting for the game not to succeed? If you don't like it, go away--quit trying to hurt a game many of us enjoy and want to do well. You're not helping anyone with this kind of crap.

    Just. Go. Away.

Negative reviews on the press, maybe?

There are, indeed, several other titles over there (Amazon) going with 50%+ off, GTA5, as example, and I would never call that one a failure, who knows what is happening on the video game market, I don't.
  • plamillusionub17_ESO
Vendors decision to sell remaining stock, it's got nothing to do with ZOS.
It is funny to see this brought up in every mmo forum though, there's a thread over on wildstar forums about it being discounted as well and they launched a few days ago.

Not common for MMOs, unless they are failing ofc.

Really, cause I can buy WoW (Battlechest, everything currently out) for $24.99. That's the base game and 3 expansions for $24.99.

And we all know that WoW hasn't been very successful at all.

LOL, paid customers providing important feedback, may be in unpleasant form, still contributes to the game MORE than meaningless defense.

When all complainer went away, thats the time game dies, get real. I saw fans blindly defending products all the time, guess what, they are all WRONG, and the products are DEAD.

Funny, it's free shipping over $35.00 so really after you pay the shipping because its only $30.00, not so much half price.

I guess if you are picking something up from amazon and it ships from the same place as the game, then you are golden

Why are people still voting on this poll? Hahaha. I have to go, but the only thing that would make the poll reasonable would be an option for "Amazon lowered the price". End of story.

Anyway, have a good night everyone. See you in game.

All I know is that out of the 20+ people I happened to friend...most at random; only one still logs on LOL. And I just joined them!

Dropping price so drastically this soon after launch is most certainly not a good sign; every single MMO that has struggled and eventually failed have all done the same thing which is well..most of em over the last 10 or so years. This comes to no surprise: ESO is mediocre at best. Yet another MMO dev not learning a darned thing from history yet again...meh.

Well good news is that their real target market is consoles so yall that's left; enjoy paying to beta test for Zeni until then. :)

You need more options because those are wrong. I checked the link and you see all the different versions listed? If you click them you'll see it's the physical copy that's on sale. Probably because the majority buy digital copies these days as nobody wants two hundred boxes of games in their house and you can re-download them any time plus don't have to worry about bs issues like games not arriving on time.

Physical copies are inferior. This is why.

I love how the internet warrior let links to Wikipedia and "economics 101" argue for them. If you have to resort to the most basic of arguments, don't consider yourself particularly insightful on how marketing, merchandising and business in general works. Too funny.

One nice thing about D download is if you lose the CD, get a new computer, or cd scratches and is unusable the download content is forever. So yea I would.

Cd's remind me of my grandpa and his Walkman or portable cd player. So old fashion and outdated. Most computers now days don't even have a CD drive. And you want to bet soon even Ipads and notes will be able to play ESO in one or two years? No CD drive. But you can download it.

It's called a "sale". Retailers do it for many reasons, and chief among them is to attract customers to buy from them instead of their competitors. It's just marketing, and does not in itself indicate whether something is doing well or poorly.

Going with, folks are trying to dump too much stock, having bought more than they anticipated they would sell.

Q: What's the reason ESO went half price?
A: ESO didn't go half price.

    FAQ:
Q: Why is Amazon selling it at half price?
A: If you have room for 5000 bagels and sell 100 a day at full price, and you also have room for 5000 cupcakes and can sell 500 a day at the same price, you'll discount the bagels to sell the same volume to make room for more cupcakes since they sell better at full price. Moral of the story it's not just about how much money you can make, but its also about how fast you can make it.

Q: Why is it that people don't understand basic economics?
A: Humans are particularly unique for their uncanny ability to learn from the experiences of others, but doubly unique for their insufferable disinclination to actually do so.
