Dyes - achievement based unlocks...

The dyes are achievment based, we have known this since they announced dyes. How many forced group content achievments are there? So far they have not made one item, asthetic or not, that was completely exclusive for solo, groups, pve, pvp, class or race. Looking at all the different achievments available, I find it very hasty amd dooms-day-ish to even remotely assume the majority of dyes will be based on group content.
What if they displayed a die earned by an achievement for a solo instance? Would you have cried "no group dyes! No pvp dyes!" Not likely because now it sounds silly. And again ONE shade of ONE color has people up in arms. There are, litterally, hundreds of other more important topics, more pressing issues, better asthetic arguments than this thread. Complaining about Daedric armor is more valid than this.
Can we please get a mod in here to shed light on this topic so we can go ahead and move to complaining about other non-important things?

Lets hope they get the Achievements sorted then after 1.1.2 update I had loads I got now listed as not being completed..

    This is a good system.

Unfortunately, It seems some players are just never happy unless they can 'have it all' with minimal effort.

Yes, you will have to complete group content if you want that particular shade of dye that is a reward for such an achievement. But just have a look at the palette they have already in place; there are lots of shades, tones and colours to choose from. Just because you mightn't be able to get all of the dyes in the game due to your personal play style does not immediately mean that the system is in any way, shape or form flawed.

I'm sure Zenimax will have it organised so no matter what your play-style is, the achievements completed whilst playing the game in that way will provide you with a range of colours and tones from around the colour-wheel.
If you can be anything, be kind.

I think it's fair. If you want the dye, do the content. As long as the dyes are spread across PvP, group PvE and solo PvE focused achievements, it'll be fair for everyone involved.

Be thankful they didn't pull a SWTOR and make the most sought after dyes available only through a cash shop from crappy RNG gambling packs.

@ZOS_GinaBruno Not one for posting negatively, really I'm not, but seriously… could you fix things like the missing/hidden achievement bug before you release the dye system for which it will be based on? Or at least before you push out more VR-12 content?

At the risk of slightly derailing this thread, the achievement issue is scheduled to be fixed on Monday as well.

yeah, face the fact, this is not a crafting game, it is a pvp game with a pve component. the 'crafting' is just part of the pve adventuring system, which is why a lvl 1 blacksmith with lvl 50 adv can pull mats out of an item that a lvl 50 BS with lvl 3 adventuring cannot. and why making items is the worst way to actually leveling 'crafting.'

Wooooow.... If this game is PVP 1st then PVE, then we are doomed.
I have never seen a MMO PVP game that has survived, but I have seen many PVE games get ruined do to accommodating "crying PVPers" that are loud but very few.
I like PVP but not when it takes over the game and force developers to make all kind of nerfs and destruction to the game.

Yeah I lol'd at that too........ :D Oh but on a side note, you can bet that the most sought after dyes will probably come from group content and I assume like VR content, trials etc.......What game doesn't make black the rarest color? I can't think of any except swg when I played it and they introduced the new color schemes for crafting. At least that was left up to the crafter to add in the color.......I miss that game. So you can bet when the time rolls around when this update is added, plus the new fancy armors that drop, there will be a lot of pitching fits and screaming. Get the popcorn ready :)

Just returning to this topic (I have been away for a few days)...

In answer to your question, yes I would indeed have been unhappy with that.

A crafting advancement/option that is gated behind on the completion of any arbitrarily defined requirement that is based on play-style is something that I would argue against.

Why? Because whether you are PvP, Solo-PvE or Group-PvE has exactly nothing to do with your ability to craft. As far as I can see, linking the two has no narrative logical basis. So why do it?

To pander to the hardcore screaming for exclusive content for their own little clique .. it doesn't surprise me that the screenshot that generated this thread (and others) shows a BLACK dye gated by a hardcore-only achievement.

In all MMOs I play where dyes exist, black is THE most desired colour .. ZOS realise that too it seems.

Actually I am completely ok with the fact that dyes are tied to achievements, since they have said that I have done a couple of achievements I would not have done otherwise.
It worked out completely elderscrollslike, so I tried to do something and did 15 things and the av in the end xD
Atm there are btw 3 Avs from trial, 3!
Farming anchors to get all the generals seems to be a little bit more work xD

But in one thing you are right, this feature excludes roleplayers, who actually would have the most use for dyes.

And I have to admit I don't have a solution for this.
Warden Main apparently... 7 Wardens currently, otherwise a healer of every class.
Mostly active in No CP PVP on EU, blaming the buffbot meta in pve.
I want to feel like I am saving somebodies life, not like I am carrying amunition for them...

Just be thankful it appears to be a vendor-based interface from the screenshot, and not going to take up several dozen of your already precious inventory slots.
