Armor question

I know a patch or so back they made some cosmetic changes to armor, so did they change how frequently they change appearance. My Steel armor looked better than my Iron armor, my Orichalcum armor looked better than my Steel armor, my Dwarven armor looked better than my Orichalcum armor, but my Ebony armor looks exactly like my Dwarven Armor?.....

In the previous Elder Scrolls Games Ebony Armor was always black, I can deal with it if they change color but shouldn't there be cosmetic changes between the Dwarven and Ebony armor?

From what I've read in the past, armor stops gaining new designs once you hit the 4'th tier of materials, which would be Dwarven Ingots for Blacksmithing. From then on, the only difference between crafted gear seems to be color. This is the case for all crafts and all race designs, as far as I've seen.

This information might be a bit outdated, though, since it was before the patch that I read this, and I was in VR levels and never compared different tiers of gear since the patch hit.

but the color even stayed the same

the patch notes were stating a fix for missing textures with the armor. alof of the veteran armors were missing sheen aswell. some of them were looking a lot like the ugly lower level armor. so they made them look better by fixing the texture file/Sheen (both these were missing or were messed up). when u upgrade them it also looks different. (Regular is base. Common adds in extra looks. Rare adds in even more cosmetic looks. Epic adds in even more variety. Legendary is the best looking out of all set upgrades).

Idk why people are complaining about this needed fix (not saying that you are) but it could be cause they put it at their top when other things needed to be fixed or they just want something to complain about lol.

but again. this is what I have seen and was told by the devs in a post by players noticing this(there was a whole 10 page Post on this problem and they took extreme interest and fixed it)

EDIT: wanted to clarify that the ONLY way they would change appearance is
    A ) reaching Dwarven.
    B ) upgrading armor through tempers ( Common/Rare/Epic/Legendary)
    C ) both Dwarven/upgrade

other then those the only cosmetic change with the base Regular is the colors.so
Iron - orch = only colors
when you reach dwarven the look with change
Dwarven - Void = ONLY colors

as I stated above the only exception is with the quality upgrades (Common/Rare/Epic/Legendary)

yes some colors will look the same but they will go with the new looks...like a loop
    iron - Orch (Color Loop)
    Dwarven - Void (Color Loop)

the colors will be mixed but u will get the same colors within each teir sets 1- 50 and VR1 - VR12

sorry for this rant but I want to clarify and see if this helps :)

You sure about the designs staying the same throughout iron-orch? I recall my armor having different designs the whole way, despite using Breton design for all of them.

pretty sure. tho there may be small less noticeable changes the major very noticble ones happen when you reach dwarven. AFTER dwarven it stays the same. tho you may have noticed the slight changes with quality (Common/Rare/Epic/Legendary) those add in some notable cosmetic changes to the armor. Common helm will look different from base helm. Rare helm will look different from common and so forth (on same helmet type(material/race wise) when you reach dwarven it will add a faceplate (minus primal of course) orch still looks like Iron only different color.

for example..lets say you had a Iron Helmet of Magicka(imperial) then compare it to Orch(cant spell it off top of my head) Helm of magicka(Imperial) they will look the same. minus color and the added features of the blue one.

the Dwarven version is then a FULL version of the helm..faceplate and everything.

EDIT: may take screenies to clarify better tomorrow

I was just curious because there was a recent patch that made my Orichalcum armor go from grey with copper trim, to green with grey trim. I just assumed (and by now I should know better than to assume) that when I went from Dwarven to Ebony armor that something would change again it's not a big deal it just seemed strange.

no no. its ok to assume sometimes. its how you get help. the orch was looking like iron teir gear. they fixed that. since orch is now green with grey trim...its how it is supposed to be now. I mean orch is a green metal. tho no idea on ebony (im past that and onto galatite atm) if ebony is black (or atleast a dark color) then it should be fine. :)

The problem is that the Ebony Armror is the exact same style and color of Dwarven armor. In the previous elder scrolls games ebony armors were always black, thats why I was taken back to discover it has apparently changed
