Do you play w/ honor? Serious question.

  • renaud.moyneb16_ESO
I most MMOs I play with ultra mega hight morality. So hight, poeples think Im high.

But in ESO it's war. And I want to prevail. There is no honor and morality in war. Only winners and loosers. Only deads and livings.
ESO, the great nothing : no PvE difficulty, PvP lags, zero RP tools...

    No.

In PvP i've always gone by the old saying "if it's red it's dead".

I don't care if someone is in a one on one or it's just a random straggler. If I see it, it's dead.

It's full PvP not sit back and waste time waiting for a duel to finish.

At the end of the day, I join PvP to make people dead and get AP. I don't pay a sub for other people's enjoyment so folk getting annoyed at me interrupting their one on one doesn't bother me.

EDIT: Btw, everyone else in the thread. This isn't war, this is a video game.

You are correct, this is a video game, and Cyrodiil is the war zone in that video game.
So we've come full circle. War is war. Even in a video game.

Not really. I'm not fighting for my home or my family's survival here, I'm fighting to have fun. I don't really "gain" anything if I win. I don't get a bigger paycheck or anything, I just get some digital points on a digital scoreboard.

While I fully concede those points are delicious, and winning is definitely always something to aim for, I just find it a bit pretentious reading these gung-*** platitudes about war and the horrors of it when in all likelihood we're all just a bunch of nerds tapping away at our keyboards.

For me, PVP is more of a competition than a war. It's about testing your skill, not winning at all costs. So yeah, if I find two people of equal level fighting in the middle of nowhere, I'm going to let them have their 1v1. What would I gain by interrupting them? If it's an uneven fight though, or it's happening near a big fight at a map objective, then of course I'm going to jump in.

Just wanted to know how many of you out there play w/ honor.

Myself, if I see a 1v1 happening, I let them finish. If my alliance member loses, I will then attack the enemy and rez the friendly afterwards, but I will not save him.

And I get a little angry and disappointed when someone (a friendly) jumps in on my 1v1, especially when I'm roughly full on health and they (my enemy) are in execute range.

On Wabbajack, I've noticed that there are a hand full of DC guys that will let the 1v1 finish before attacking me. They are few and far between, but it has happened a on a few occasions. I don't think it has ever happened while fighting AD tho. Ever. They may be out there, but out of my 2000~ solo fights I've not met any.

Also, I will never run from a 1v1. Ever.

Just my thoughts and experiences tho.

What about you? Do you play w/ a sense of honor?

Honor can be subjective. What one finds honorable, another may find dishonorable.

Unless the parties involved in the duel explicitly state that they are dueling, I will aid my ally.

I would act with honour by treating PvP like actual war. To act with honour in actual war is to defend your own. I would do that in PvP, protect my allies no matter the cost. This is not real life, this is a game, so my honour in PvP would be a mad maniac variety and I would charge the enemy no matter the odds. In actual war, if I saw 1v10...the honour there is letting that ally have his glorious death, a distraction so others, such as I can achieve my objective, and bring sorrow and death to mine enemies tenfold. To protect your people, that is the honour of war. The only difference is it means different things when its just a game. When its reality you only got 1 life. And that's why if an ally puts theirs on the line so you, or other allies can do important work you honour their memory. The beauty of games such as this is you only got to wait for the game to load after you die and for a re-spawn. It is so much more important, a million fold, when your actual life is in peril. In real war, you honour the dead by ensuring those they fight to protect endure.

In real war there is no honor. the most moral thing to do in war is to kill the enemy as best and as fast as you can so they don't want to fight anymore anything else is immoral and evil. If what you are talking about is honor then it is evil and can honor be evil?

What are you talking about? Every soldier who chooses to follow orders instead of running away has honor.

I never said anything about not running away. I said the OPs version of honor is immoral so its not honor. I never said anything about desertion.

I was talking about the Op opinion of honor not anything else.

That`s the sad part when asking such a question not in a pvp forum. People just won`t understand, they get all excited when they a red bar on the screen and just jump it. You can really see what kind of (pvp) players they are.

When I see a single enemy fight very well in a 1on1 or outnumbered I let him fight and watch. He deserved it imo for fighting well. I would want enemies to do the same if I show really good performance. This is not war. This is a game. I always honor my opponents, as any good sportsman would do.

    This.

Playing the way I play is my definition of fun.

If a solo player is too weak to defend himself in a solo fight, then he needs to learn. And the best way to let him learn is to let the fight finish. As I mentioned in my OP, I will Rez him after I kill the enemy. So, no harm done and hopefully the losing player has learned something from the experience.

I'll also add that I've received a guild invite to a group of great PvPers because of the honor that I play with. And I've received many Msg's from the enemy player telling me how awesome it was that I let them fight without jumping in. And I've made various friends of enemy factions this way as well.

It's a very fun and rewarding playstyle. Just so you know.

The key in this game is the winning a three way fight for control and establishing an Emperor. There is no time for one on one duels of honor, that can wait until the victory has been decided.

I would always help my alliance member out. It looks like maybe you are choosing chivalry over loyalty. Really both have honor, at least in my opinion. You are more concerned with a fair fight, which is cool too.

However, speaking of honor, I really hate when I'm farming for resources (ore deposits mostly) or am about to open a chest and am fighting something nearby that is essentially 'guarding' it when someone comes up and takes it while I am busy fighting. To anyone with eyes, I am clearly battling the creature for this resource. My rule is - fight the creature, win the spoils. If I see someone battling a creature and there is a resource/chest nearby, I don't touch it. I simply keep walking. Good rule for honor, don't take something that you yourself have not earned. Its stealing and not going to make you any firends only a bad reputation.

One of the thing I hate in pvp zones its the people who tell you . Why did you attack ? that was a 1vs1 .
Well ..why the hell did you start the combat in the middle of the battlefield? . If you wanna 1vs1 go tho one of the corners of the map ...to a hidden cave in them iddle of nowhere, where no one will ever see you doing your 1vs1s.
I came from Lotro and im sick of people making up pvp rules (dont use that skill, dont use CDs) this is not against you OP ....its just my opinion based on past experience.
Cyrodiil its a huge map ..and we have 9 (or 10 ? ) campaigns!!, Wabbajack is the current larger campaign right now .....if you want to do 1vs1, there are a lot of empy campaigns to start the "1vs1 circles" .
    ----
Now ..for the question. Do you have honor ?

If im in Cyrodiil and I see one of my faction fighting an enemy, my first reaction will be jumping in rage against my enemy and defend my ally , thats honor for me. Standing in one side, watching your ally die...Im never going to do that.

Now ...the exception: If I see two people fighting 1vs1, and when they see me they stop fighting and my ally informs me of the 1vs1 condition ...well in that case I wont interfer in their fighting, i will move along and continue my road.

I should have been more clear in my OP.

The circumstance should dictate. If it is in between keeps in regards to defense or offensively sieging, helping is usually a given. My OP is more in the context of places like Bruma, or the other questing areas and solo dungeons.

I'll edit my OP to explain this.

Goodness, I don't think there is much honor in war. Well ...

Old time duels were one on one.

Wars had rules. One side shot first, then the other. On an open plain. No hiding.

It's different now. And to me, if I am in a war and I see any of my side in a battle, I will help them. *shrugs*

If I am RPing, that is different. Set rules OOCly. People discuss what is happening.

Reminds me of watching some vids on You Tube (I forget the name of the game now) but you can play like a pirate or ninja or knight. And people would rage if anyone stepped in on their 1v1 battle even when it was set FFA.

Maybe ..if the enemy is low level and my ally its a vet 10-12 I wont get involved until the fight its finish, but sometimes you dont have time to decided, so I go with my first reaction(attack the enemy)
