Do you play w/ honor? Serious question.

That`s the sad part when asking such a question not in a pvp forum. People just won`t understand, they get all excited when they a red bar on the screen and just jump it. You can really see what kind of (pvp) players they are.

When I see a single enemy fight very well in a 1on1 or outnumbered I let him fight and watch. He deserved it imo for fighting well. I would want enemies to do the same if I show really good performance. This is not war. This is a game. I always honor my opponents, as any good sportsman would do.

    There's survival. There's free will. There's sacrifice. There's hope. There's fear.

Honor is bestowed upon those who let us start again. Honor is for the dead, as the living cannot have any honor. For if we did, we'd be equal and have no reason to fight.

The gods mock us with granting life. Taking it, is our only way to defy them.

If your a role player you come at the game from a mindset of your character and to your character it isn't a game its a war with real consequences if they die or lose, so from there perspective it has to be treated like a real war.

So the problem comes from some people are pvpers and not role players. Sportsmanship can be considered in that case.

Now for pvpers who are role players this is war life and death no sportsmanship involved win or die.

Those 2 mindsets cant be reconciled in the same arena neither are wrong but the non-role players shouldn't get mad at the role players who treat the game like it should be treated from there perfectly valid point of view.

Hmm. To answer this question. At first yes, Now? Nope. As to why the change. Well..

I was vet 7 at the time or so. Solo in Cyro, I saw a level 14 player in AD. We saw each other but I did not attack him because I thought it would be unfair.

A few minutes later the same guy came with vet 10s and pretty much rolled me and a buddy then jumped on my corpse. After that. Nope. I refused to spare my enemies.

They are enemies. Simple as that. Unless my friend tells me not to jump in. I will get his back because I am sure my enemies would do the same for their comrades.

Honestly I'm not sure what the queen was talking about. How was Bronn dishonorable? He was fighting without any armor and no shield, of COURSE he would dodge. It was a fair duel...

EDIT: Btw, everyone else in the thread. This isn't war, this is a video game.

What about you? Do you play w/ a sense of honor?

No. I tend to play solo so the most important person in the game is me. I prefer to fight when the odds are in my faction's favour and will happily run (sneak) away if it looks like the battle is lost.

^This. In pretty much every pvp or arena game (as well as in every strategically fought RL war), getting an advantage in numbers is one of the main strategies. Ganking the unsuspecting, misleading them to run elsewhere so you can jump the one who overextends or isn't with his group. Splitting them up. Driving a wedge between them.

    It's about killing and winning.

Like someone above already said: it's a war, not a duel.

That being said, it sure would be nice if there was a special arena for duels, aka 1v1 PvP.

TES is in the middle of your sought after answer. It is in game, obviously, as it is in what we like to call reality, because it is virtual, thought up. The philosophical lore of TES is the most comprehensive merging of world religions (with a strong Hindi bias that miraculously ends in Zen. Because it must. And must not.) and shows as the only truth, which is the fault.

This question comes up in all games.
    1v1s are never obvious.
You can't tell if someone is getting jumped or wants to go 1v1 only.

And then as you are watching and trying to figure it out someone jumps you or them.

This 1v1 example implies a duel at dawn scenario. Most 1v1s will be where one snuck on the other. Not honourable at all.

In answer to your question no. I want to kill my opponents not audition for Sir Galahad.

I guess we mean totally different things by honor. I think of it as not exploiting/cheating to win (scouting quests/caltrops/spammable batswarm, etc).

All available to me to abuse but won't because they ruin games.

Waiting until some is finished fighting isn't honorable, its cocky and damning to your ally you are not helping. If another player comes along and starts fighting, or 10, your 1v1 idea isn't exactly honorable.

Actually, the honourable thing to do would be to aid your alliance member instead of standing idly by. With that being said, honour does not actually exist in this game. Cyrodill is pretty much a free for all.

You may think you're playing honourably, but I bet you're doing something that others will find as a cheap tactic. Either by the class you play, or the way you play it.

You are correct, this is a video game, and Cyrodiil is the war zone in that video game.
So we've come full circle. War is war. Even in a video game.

Seeing someone from your faction in 1v1 battle and standing there not doing anything is the complete opposite of honor.

    This is war.

    Not a duel.

Its situational: if you are too close to a contested keep/resource i cant afford to let you live and you are going to die.

If i meet you in the middle of nowhere... bad luck, im an assassin and you are going to die.
But maybe if i was a templar i would spare your life. I dont know.

Just wanted to know how many of you out there play w/ honor.

Myself, if I see a 1v1 happening, I let them finish. If my alliance member loses, I will then attack the enemy and rez the friendly afterwards, but I will not save him.

I would never just run away or watch when a comrade engages an enemy in mortal combat. That would be honorless.

War is war, especially in a computer game. I'm not a big pvper, but I do plan on going to Cyrodiil later, probably when campaigns reset.

If I saw an enemy fighting a faction ally, yes, I probably would jump in to help, just as I'd expect guys from the other side to do.

One thing that bugged me about the Dragonball series (particularly Z) was all the one on one honour stuff - if they'd ganged up on guys like Cell early, instead of all that e-peeny testoterone Immagotta prove mahself stuff, it wouldn't have been so godawful draggy. With threats like those, there should be no room for this honour stuff; that only ever flew on formal European battlegrounds, and our Natives laughed their butts off the first time they saw the English line up against the French (and I don't blame them.)
