I have a genius iq and a couple degrees. I also use the f word at least once every sentence.I block people who use any type of profanity.
The constant use of profanity to me is a sign of a lack of intelligence and education.
dannymcgr81b14_ESO is right, ZOS set that up because they have standards.

I am not here to ensure your kids dont see bad things. That's your job.
Sheesh, I hate these knee jerk brainless pronouncements.
You don't want hard core x-rated content to be broadcast on network tv? You want censorship. You don't want people yelling fire in a movie theatre? Censorship. I can't put a billboard showing a person getting their head blown off on a public roadway? Censorship. Society is full of censorship.
And anyway, ZOS is a private company, not a government. They can do what they want in their own chat system, and impose whatever terms of service they like, and throw you out if you don't abide by it. Just as a convenience store can have me removed from it if I stand in the middle and start screaming the F-bomb.
And there's plenty of kids who's parents have no clue or don't care. Those kids are garbage we as a society should just ignore and not take even the most basic steps to protect? Nice. There's also parent's who did view the game, and made the decsion to allow their kids to play based on the content (I would certainly let my 13 year old play) but weren't exposed to the zone chat excesses.
So... the kids are just SOL? Because you can't be bothered to control your language or not engage in detailed, graphic conversations in the public chat?
Not to mention the fact that I, paying for a game, shouldn't have to wade through that garbage just to ask a question. Their's private (guild and tells) methods of communication available to you. There's no reason you can't keep it clean in the public one.
Now this one i agree with, I'm very immature. But i have a lot of fun.Swearing like a drunken sailor in public chat is not a sign of maturity. It's a sign of immaturity. Maturity is knowing where and when the proper place for it is. In guild chat with you and a few friends? Fine. In public chat channels? Not fine. I drop f-bombs all the time in private or guild chat with my friends. I do not in public channels.

You sound like the little old lady that kvetched at me on the corner because I dropped somethng, said "well, sh-" and their 10 year old grandkid was right there.
Not my fault you or your family cant teach the kid that in your opinion its not okay to say it or other words.
When I keep it out of /zone its because of ZOS' rules, not your kid or anyone elses kid.
Raising them and teaching them now not to be immature, pretentious, entitled brats is the parents' job, no one elses.
This "community raising" is why the state and schools think they know better how to raise your kid than you do, how better to educate them than you do, and hospitals have child services take your kid when you dont agree on how a condition should be treated.
I could go on about my opinion of todays crappy parenting and societys lack of personal accountability, but thats a different thread. Im not censoring myself in public because people like you demand it.

I REALLY don't think bad language heard/read in a game will ruin our younglings.
We're doing a good enough job at that through far more insidious means.
Maybe you should read up a bit on fallacious arguments. Here's an example.

The public street is labeled "M" because mature themes might happen there. Are you allowed to swear like a sailor there? To start it off, my apologies to all the people whom I have possibly offended in the zone chat by dropping a f-bomb. Even got in a fun little profanity filled skype chat. I know this chain of events isn't worthy of a topic, but the real matter on hands is.
How does this profanity in this game work? Since it's an M (for mature) labeled game, are we allowed to say 'damn' every once in a while? I'm curious.
If you really want to swear, do it verbally without microphone on.
If you use /zone, guild or group channel you want others to hear you. You choose to risk offending others with it when you invest time to write it down. In the grown up world you suffer the consequences for your choices.
I am not peoples emotional garbage dump. If they try to make me to one, we have a disagreement. Your weapons are words, mine are ignore and report.
And before anybody tries the old fallacy: Freedom of Speech offers no protection. Your FOS is lower then my right to be not insulted and not annoyed by you.
And frankly it never applied to this game or the forum in the first place:

Being insulted is a choice, and yes, I have right to swear up a storm on a public street.

Just an FYI from a few years working in the public sector... Most cities have enough legal precedent established to charge you with a misdemeanor Disturbing the Peace charge if you stand on a public street corner shouting profanities for too long.
Pffft, these people are no Chaucer or Shakespeare. They're just mouthy kids. Any moron can be mouthy, and in fact they inevitably are.People who use profanity serve as useful indicator to the rest of us. It's a sure indication that they aren't bright enough to be worth chatting to and certainly aren't mature enough to group up with. The resulting click to /ignore ensures I never have to see them display their lack of both an education and a worthwhile vocabulary ever again. Sheer bliss.
You know who i think is unintelligent? People that use this tired old fallacy.
Shakespeare is littered with profanities, so are Chaucers works. So is Beowulf. So are many literary classics. Many of those authors are considered the best and brightest in their field.

Last night, in chat, in just the 3 minutes I read it, I was treated to people being called "C***"s, told how much they'd like to do various things (you can imagine) to the niece someone ill-advisedly mentioned, some troll popping in throughout to talk about the various animals he liked to have sex with (not his exact way of describing it, of course) and general abusive, nasty stuff. Mixed in with people asking game questions, looking for groups, trades, etc.
I'm not some old lady. I drop the f word all the time around people I know, both at work and home. But we're not talking some "fine line" here, or someone saying "boobies" or "crud".
It's a common chat area run by a private company, with its mix of people using it for legitimate game reasons, there's no place for it. I'd have had to ignore 20 people at least. Why should I or anyone have to in order to use the only global communication in the game if they're not comfortable with that kind of stuff?

At that point I turn chat off.
Not sure I've ever heard of anyone getting banned for just using foul language. I have heard of people getting warnings or suspensions when it comes to using foul language alongside harassment of some sort.
Not sure how it works...the game is rated M and I see people curse all the time in game but when I see it on the forums a mod always edits out the curse word and tells them not to use profanity...I thought the game was rated M and the forums should be the same?
I don't swear in game or on the forums but if I were to just put a random F bomb in my post I know a mod would come in and edit it out lol
