Error 301 - Does this mean I cannot play until Tuesday?

My game crashed a few hours ago, and after restarting my client I was unable to login. I keep on getting "Login timeout" and "Error 301". When I use an incorrect password I can see the authentication server rejects me, so I am pretty sure it is connected properly.

I have tried to use Windows compatibility mode as mentioned [Possible Fix] to Error 301 & Login Timeout but it didn't help. Also send out a help ticket but that can take up quite some time before they get to it.

I see quite a lot of people have this error and it should be fixed with the deployement of v1.1.3, which is on Tuesday for the European server. Does this mean I am unable to play untill v1.1.3?

    Great question, since I have never had this issue, but now also do. I have followed all suggested fixes in the 301 thread, but no luck. I have also noted that no one from Zenimax has bothered to respond. Nice.

    So I got a reaction to my ticket. In short, these are the possible fixes that have been supplied in the response:
    Log in to your account on https://account.elderscrollsonline.com
    Sign the new Terms of Service agreement.
    [...]
    Please try the following:
    Reboot router/modem
    Connect your computer via cable (not wireless).
    [...]
    In addition, you may want to check that your router has not blocked access through the following ports:
    • TCP / UDP Ports 24100 through 24131
    • TCP / UDP Ports 24500 through 24507
    • TCP / UDP Ports 49100 through 54000
    [...]
    Also, try a clean boot to disable background programs that could potentially be blocking the connection ...
    I have done all of the above, yet the problem still remains. I am now off to reply to the ticket with the host.developer log, as mentioned in another part of the reply (which I do not have quoted here).

    An update (and a subtle bump): I have communicated with Zenimax Support and they have forwarded my log file to their technical department.

    I have also come into contact with people who had Error 301 before, and they all tell me that I have to wait until the server will be restarted before I will be able to login. Guess I will have to wait until Tuesday after all. Too bad I lost my entire Sunday and Monday evening. Not that I don't have anything else to do, but it's minus two days from my subscription I couldn't play due to login errors :\

    supposedly they do have a fix and not just a reboot so hopefully it wont be happening anymore. that doesnt help you in the short run, i know, but in the long run hopefully we wont be seeing these any more.

    I had 301 last week. I did all the described solutions + a few others I found in the internet.

    I could not play for 6 days. And I got no compensation in form of what ever.
    Last week there were already hundreds of 301.

    Finally I could play again after server restart last Friday for EU.

    So yes, I guess you have to wait until that.

    I was hit by 301 last week, and couldn't play at all until Saturday May 31st after reset, but then within an hour I got hit by it again. Still haven't been able to log in. So until they actually fix the issue causing it, your playtime may vary.

    This was a bug introduced in 1.1.2. It is fixed in 1.1.3 patch notes. Zenimax haven't admitted the problem as, presumably, they don't want to mass refund game time as it's existed for well over a week now.

    You can play on the other megaserver (US or EU). It is not a computer problem, and Zenimax know that as they've fixed it in next patch. Patch goes out Monday and Tuesday for each megaserver.

    Every time there is a god damn Maintance on US servers we at EU get struck by errors, I'm quite sure they're all hosted on same provider hence stuff like mass errors on maintance day (for US) people at EU suffer. How about you already give us a freaking EU server? Obviously european money is not as shiny as US is, or are you scared of showing people real numbers? The fact that servers wouldn't be affordable at another part of the world- Pretty sure it's this else we'd have EU servers since start.

    Now back to work and fix this damn issue, I'm really tired of getting hit by this crap every week when there is maintance on US.

    I will tell you this, unless we get refund for days and days of not being able to play. I will cancel my sub, as I'm honestly tired of your rookie crap. Pays for 30 days and gets less than 20 days play time due mass errors, crashes. And don't even dare to blame it on our end because this is something I see alot at guild chat. You don't even want to know amount of swearing there goes when people get crashed constantly.

    I feel like they should have the EU server hosted somewhere else, rather than the NA. Because I believe that they are actually hosted at the same place*. So that might make them more adapting to errors.

    For info, this wasn't fixed in 1.1.3 patch notes in the end as they removed the fix.

    The last time I had error 301 was from my virus/firewall software that put a restriction on the eso.exe file.
    Which prevented the game from properly connecting. Some of those so call security software like to do this. Put in sandbox, limited mode, etc. Comodo I know does this for every eso patch and have to be put into trusted files, every time.
    So this might be the reason you are having lockout issues.

    Ever since last night (6/3), I have been getting error 301 followed by login timeouts with my account. Today I was still getting the same error. So, for fun I tried logging in with my husbands account on my computer, and it logs in just fine. Grr.... Any ideas???

    Yeah it's account bound, not computer bound.. At least I can confirm that I have been able to play every since Tuesday once the servers restarted. But now I'm afraid every time I crash my game.

    I responded to customer support with the following:

    I am UNABLE to login with my account / password on my PC… I receive error 301 or a Login timeout error.

    I am ABLE to login with my son’s account / password on my PC without problems.

    THEREFORE THE PROBLEM IS AN ACCOUNT PROBLEM AND NOT ON THE CLIENT SIDE.

    I look forward to your prompt and speedy resolution of my issue.


    At any rate I plan to speak with a supervisor within tech support regarding an account adjustment if this problem persists more then 24 hours.

    As a guildmaster of a PVE/PVP guild trying to coordinate trials, I am effectively benched and forced to ride the sidelines and communicate with guildmates thru Mumble.

    Yes please reboot the server before tuesday. I got locked out by error 301 tonight and it is not fair to have to wait and waste the weekend and monday, monday we in holland have the day off, so please reboot it friday.

    Road Ahead - directors letter from yesterday:
    "Some of you have been reporting connection errors when logging into the game – we’ve fixed a few problems relating to this over the last two weeks, and the maintenance update on Monday should have taken care of the rest of them. Please contact CS if you still get error 301 when logging into the game."

    This issue is on their end, I play both US and EU servers. US is fine for me right now but I get 301 on the EU. (Out of the blue)

    I am actually happy I got hit with this before my sub rolled over. I will wait till unplayable issues like this are resolved before paying. =)

    I have filed a ticket. Yes, they sent a canned response even though I stated explicitly that I could not log on with any computer I tried. My roommate can log onto his character just fine from my computer as well as his own computer.

    So yes, it is a server side problem and not our computers!

    Reset the servers daily please until you can solve this problem.

    I have cancelled my subscription already (4 days remaining). If they fix the issue within the four days fine, but otherwise I'm am out of here.

    There is NO WAY I will pay for a game that I cannot play. Sorry.

    Please fix it... usually never get caught in this things... this is pretty much a first.... but still as alot others are suffering even more from it, it would be nice if it would be fixed.

    Also have the issue :\ Answer CS is screw you waiting until server reset. Not acceptable in my opinion. Lost all faith in CS and the way they treat there customers.

    Its a shame cause the game is great :)

    This totally sucks. 3 days downtime. An apology would be nicer than giving you a list of things to try that they already know isn't going to fix it. There's no attempt to fix it, just an attempt to make you think they're interested. This will be remembered.

    301 error all weekend. I've been playing since launch pretty much as well with no issues. Hope it's fixed Tuesday at least...
