Isn't support supposed to at least ASK ME THE SECRET Question before demanding I answer it to get support?

I like it this way. If they asked the question and it was not really going to you, they might guess the answer.

Saving the question on your account page, where only you should have access and can look it up if you forget it, seems more secure to me.

Yes, well thanks at least for pointing me to it. I couldn't find it in my Forum Profile. I haven't needed it before now and didn't know it was displayed there.

While I agree with you that not asking the question is more secure, the fact that you can look it up as you suggest doesn't really factor in, as one of the most likely reasons to need to prove you own the account is if it gets stolen and then you don't have access to look it up. ;)

It never ceases to amaze me how many people manage to 'forget' this critical piece of information then flame the provider of the service they're lost access to .. how can any intelligent person not realise this importance of this!

Giving you the question, which you could easily guess an answer for, depending on said question, would completely defeat the purpose of asking for your answer. If you own the account, you should know the question already so there's no excuse.

TBH, I did not remember which of the questions I had selected. I looked it up to be certain my reply to the OP was correct. So, this may be a more common problem that you realize.

I do not happen to agree that a stolen account is the most likely reason you will be asked this information. I have been asked my security questions many times over the years, none of which had anything to do with a stolen account.

I can ask you for the answer to your secret question.
I'm not Zenimax though, and you've no way of knowing who's asking you.

I can't ask you your secret question because I don't know it, so you know I'm not Zenimax

Question/answer is a two way authentication process.
That's why it's a secret question rather than a password

  • bwilson.homeb16_ESO
Oh, and your 'answer' doesn't have to be true.

"What town were you born in?"
    London
    Atlantis
    The Shire
    Martin Sheen
    Purple

All are perfectly valid 'answers' to set. If you're worried about it being too easy to guess, or already in the public domain, just make something up

I'm sorry but this is the stupidest answer I've come across. Not even my bank expects me to remember my Secret Question and they handle my money! Not to mention Secret Questions are used on so many site's it's impossible to memorize which secret question I've used on which site! If I had been "Locked Out" of my account here, now wouldn't I just be royally screwed! Lucky for me that that wasn't my particular issue tonight!

Also, if I actually HAD been hacked, they could bloody well have changed my Secret Question and my Secret answer. There's a flaw in this system!

Yeah, i wouldn't remember the answer without the question.
    Silly system.

If you go through the "forgot your password?" process you can find your Secret Question there. I had the same problem last week, seems kinda silly not to ask you your question in support.

Yeah, even with the ability to see my secret question tonight, there were still two possible answers and of course I chose the wrong one first time round. Lucky for me It was when I was changing the answer and not when I was answering the support email.

I agree that this is an asinine way of 'verifying' the individual. Wouldn't the game key be more of a verifying procedure and less of a security risk?
