Stuttering graphics?

It seems that since this latest update the graphics seem less smooth and more stuttery. It's making the game less enjoyable since that it the only thing I keep focusing on. The FPS is still 40+ but it feels like it's skipping frames for some reason. It seemed even worse with vsync off which is weird since according to /fps i'm not even hitting 60 fps. Full disclosure though, there was an nVidia driver update so that might be the cause. Has anyone else seen anything like this?

My FPS is generally around 50, but when I go in cities or caves it often stutters and drops down to 2-5 FPS for a second. It's really annoying and completely takes away from the immersive feeling of the game

Yeah same for me. However, I installed manually latest nVidia driver and changed priority to eso.exe to high. It is much better now. Try it maybe it will help.

I've got the latest beta drivers from AMD and i've tried adjusting the priority of the game, doesn't seem to help.

When I first start up the game it runs flawlessly for about 20 minutes or so, then randomly my FPS will drop from 50ish to about 5ish.

I monitor my CPU usage, GPU temperature, RAM usage and nothing is abnormally high during these "stutters", which leads me to believe it is something to do with the game.

    Check your hdd.

Game thrashes the *blank* out of mine.

Granted, its SATA 2 and old, but it shouldnt be thrashing my drive this much.

If any of you guys are running SLI rigs and still have your ESO profile set to Force Alternate Frame Rendering 2, I found that it hurt my fps post patch/exclusive fs mode implementation. Setting it to Alternate Frame Rendering 1 smoothed it over a lot.

Of course with PC's being what they are, your experience could differ substantially!

None has posted here their system details, when experiencing the issue.

I have an i7 4820K, an overclocked GTX780 and the game is stuck at 70-80fps range rarely heading 60fps range.
While I have changed the settings file to improve the textures quality, lighting etc.

I hope you do have set the game on FULLSCREEN mode and not window or maxed window.

The resources the client needs for any other than FullScreen mode are quite a lot.

I'm using fullscreen mode, tried the other modes too but made no difference. Looks like a lot of people are having this problem from the other threads I've seen.

I have noticed this after the patch too. Game used to run really well on high settings, but now after patch I get random stuttering. Does not make any difference if I lower settings. Only thing that seems to help is to relog. I haven't tried the new NVidia drivers, so maybe those will help.

I have tried fully uninstalling my nVidia drivers, downgrading them, upgrading them, using the nVidia GeForce Optimize tool, but nothing seems to work. Ever since this latest patch I have been experiencing stuttering, occasional low quality textures such as doors, and this gem (see attached file) every time I enter the bank in Velyn Harbor. After about 1-2 minutes then the walls and floors appear. This has all detracted greatly from my enjoyment of the game and I have played very little since this started. This has been very disappointing.

For people with stuttering problems, try going to nVidia Control Panel, open Manage 3D Settings, and change Maximum pre-rendered frames to "1". I saw this as a fix for another game and so far it's been running much better for me. I will continue testing but I wanted to get this out there ASAP.

I have no noticeable difference either way other than "I can't tab out worth a crap" and "I can't mouse over to my other monitor" like usual.

Since I use an external messenger with ESO, fullscreen is not an option. And it was causing major issues with the memory leak.

For the record, my computer is kind of piecemeal over the years and my HDD is probably 6 or 7 years old by now.

    AMD Athlon II x2 64
    NVidia GeForce 250 GTS
    4 GB DDR3

Once the memory leak was fixed, I no longer had memory issues. I run the game and Yahoo messenger concurrently at all times.

I fixed the 100% CPU usage issue with the fix you'll find on the forums.

This game is thrashing the hell out of my HDD and no other game I have on here does this, including many that are new(notably THIEF) and none of them thrash the hell out of my drive. That game is more intensive on my system than this thing is.

And it *didn't* thrash my drive during beta.

Not only is it stuttering, but my textures don't always load immediately and half the time when they do, they're a lower resolution than I have them set at.

Yeap, microstuttering / feeling of sluggishness, fps 90+ and monitor capable of 96hz.

SSD in use, so not that either.

Only after the patch, so something went wrong there.

I get that too, a lot more since the most recent patch (actually I never saw that happen before the 1.1.2 update). The door to the Mage's guild in Davon's Watch can take a good 15 minutes to load the texture (that's a long time to wait when you have eaten a 35 minute duration food buff!) And in Auridon, sometimes I enter the manor house in the first town and there are no internal walls or floors. I currently have the game installed on my SSD, so there shouldn't be any delay in loading that stuff at my end, the problem must lie elsewhere.

It seems the "view distance" setting has the most effect on fps.

on my R9280x I run that setting at 25 seems to be the sweet spot. I don't get any hard drive thrashing or stuttering. Fps in towns is around 35-45 and 60 outside.

if you have an AMD card create a profile in catalyst control center for eso.exe and turn Morphological Filtering on and save it, disable in-game anti-aliasing. It will look and run better.

try adjusting the view distance slider and see if it makes a difference.

Hasnt. I get the same problem with it down the whole way. Elden Root is particularly bad.

The bank bug there is unaffected by draw distance as its an internal cell.

    Try this:
(close out the game before doing any of the following)
    • Delete your games CACHE files by going to the following location
    • C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live
    • Look for a file called "ShaderCache.cooked" and delete it

    Also try (within game):
    • Try turning down your "View Distance" to around 40 (30 seems to work well)
    • Also try turning down your "Particle Density" to "Medium"

I think you're onto something. Whenever I get the random FPS stutters I can hear my harddrive going crazy. I there any software on windows that monitors hard drive performance?

I don't have a solid state drive or anything, but my hard drive isn't that slow and I don't think it should have such a significant effect on game performance... maybe I'm wrong.
