Repairs

Just throwing it out there, but repair rates vs. armor decay is still ridiculous imo. Anyone have any suggestions on how to lower the costs? I've personally started doing my material collecting and trash mob killing naked, and yes it has saved me a bundle lol.

Yet another repair thread... would be much handier to use search and see all the billions of repair threads already where could put one's opinion.

    Kaia Linnea - templar
    Ruusu - sorcerer
    Aino - nightblade

@sallakat I felt it was new and fairly relevant again considering work was done to fix the repair issue in the patch, yet it is still clearly broken.

    Easy: don't repair. Replace.

OP, I totally agree with you. Armor decay is ridiculous. You didn't mention what level you're playing at, but so many of the threads on repair costs are a jumble of perspectives based on where that player was at in the early game progression. i.e. "I'm level 7 and I already have 5k gold, repair costs are not a problem." As you can see, the result was a lot of threads riddled with ignorance. I'd like to see a thread that focuses on repair costs for end-game players.

I play a DK Pyromanic (VR12). My build runs flame staff and one hand and shield. It uses 5 light and 2 heavy pieces of armor, so my DPS is decent (~500) when clearing veteran rank dungeon mobs. All gear is crafted and upgraded to Epic or Legendary. I'm only missing the Epic/Legendary enchants because my enchanting skill isn't leveled up yet.

Last night I agreed to run tank with a PUG in Craglorn. We were trying to complete some of the group quest dungeons. The party had trouble from the beginning because two players were running NB bow builds. For some reason, we kept losing our fourth player, and we spent a lot of time trying to fill the group. These "bow-blades" are bad builds for veteran PvE content, and I feel a mix of anger and sadness for them. Of course, the whole time they kept bad mouthing me for being an OP DK. I'm sorry, but the build is what it is, as balanced as I could make it, just hitting the softcaps on both Health and Magic. Anyone who saw PTS gameplay before launch should have realized that strong AOE builds are a must for higher level PvE encounters.

Since it was our first time on most of the boss fights, we often wiped once or twice, on account of learning the mechanic. However, the group ended up unable to defeat the last boss in The Reason We Fight quest. We tried repairing broken armor but still couldn't beat the mechanic. My repair costs were 1,970 gold, which was way more that the gold earned from selling loot.

This brings me to the lessons learned. The first lesson is the hardest to swallow. When you party up with random players, even if they are VR12, be prepared to fail. Another lesson is that failure in this game is too expensive. I can manage a 2k repair bill once in a while, but I can not afford that every night. The gold I saved up from completing a thousand quests cannot sustain a 2k repair bill every night in Craglorn. Repair costs detract from my enjoyment of the game.

@robertlive2014 If you get into a good group that knows the mechanics and learns to mesh well together, you'll have lower repair costs because of fewer deaths. One death for me at v12 with all purple gear is about 100-200 gold... and that counts the degrade from not dieing to trash pulls in the AA trial.

So for a 2k repair bill that is about ten deaths. You must not be repairing between fights. There is a merchant in the first room of the AA trials, I don't know about Hel Ra because I've never done that one.

When I run with my normal group of players, I think I usually get between 200 and 500g repairs for each attempt at the trial, so that would take four runs at the highest repair cost per run for me to hit 2k, which never happens because I always repair between runs.

Morale of the story: Pug groups will kill you and cause higher repair bills. I learned that in other games before playing this one.

Would be even handier if you linked to one of said threads that you think relates the best to his questions instead of making a useless post that doesn't help anyone at all.

Search for your answer first isn't mandatory here, don't act like it should be. Leave that to the snob forums of the interwebs.

I started this post when I was running my first character through the game. Now that I'm starting to play with more of the game in depth I like this option better. Crafting your own gear is great and it makes it easier to replace. I just decon things i wont use and craft my own now. Pretty sweet gig if you ask me XD. Also my gold waste is almost doesn't exist now.
