Thieves Guild, Nocturnal, Poison Crafting, Justice System and more...

Zenimax revealed they plan on releasing the Thieves Guild and Justice System in a content patch shortly after launch. With that said, I wanted to discuss my hopes of what this content may bring to ESO…

Finding the Thieves Guild
Unlike finding the Fighters/Mages Guild, the Thieves Guild will never be shown on a map. In order to find this guild, players must follow Shadowmarks. These symbols will be carved on various buildings scattered throughout Tamriel cities. Finding this guild will be a cross between a scavenger hunt and a riddle. The entrance could be a trapdoor in the back of a tavern or a hidden entrance under a bridge and the player must solve the riddle in order to enter the guild.

Nocturnal & Evergloam
Nocturnal is the Daedric Prince of darkness, luck, and the night. It only fits the she plays a significant role in the Thieves Guild quest line. Furthermore, I'm hoping players can visit Evergloam, the realm of Oblivion that is ruled by Nocturnal. It is the realm of perpetual twilight.

EvergloamDiningHall_lg.jpg

Alchemy – Poison Crafting
Players will now be able to craft poisons using the negative effects of alchemy ingredients.

Trapped Treasure Chests
I'm hoping Zenimax adds trapped treasure chests to the game, such as:

Poison Chest – Opening it releases poison gas that poisons all nearby players.
Explosive Chest – It explodes upon opening, dealing fire damage to all nearby players.

These traps will be fairly rare, but will likely one-shot players if not properly disarmed. Thankfully, a new passive, "Disarm Trap" will remove said hazard.

Thieves Guild Skill Line
With the Thieves Guild, you can expect a new Skill Line with abilities:

Disarm Opponent – Chance to disarm opponent
Smoke Screen – Create smoke screen around player
Premeditation – Makes your next attack a critical attack
Lethal Concoction – Throw poison bomb at your enemies
Evasion – Significantly increases dodge rating for duration

Safe Fall (passive) – Reduces damage from falling
Bribery (passive) – Bribe city guards to ignore crimes
Pickpocket (passive) – Allows player to pickpocket NPC’s
Disarm Trap (passive) – Player can disarm trapped chests
Lockpicking (passive) – Slightly increases the lockpick timer
Haggling (passive) – Buying and selling prices are 10% better

Nightingale Cloak (ultimate) – Vanish, entering improved stealth for 10 seconds

Fame & Infamy Mechanic
I hope the developers add “Fame and Infamy” mechanic to the game. Basically, fame is a measure of how well known your heroism is amongst the general population of Tamriel. Conversely, infamy represents your notoriety for doing evil deeds. Depending how you play your character will change NPC disposition. Being able to make your character a hero or villain and having NPC's react accordingly adds so much immersion to the game.

Justice System - Illegal Activities
With the addition of the Justice System, having many illegal activities would be welcome:

Trespassing
Pickpocket
Theft
Assault
Murder

hqdefault.jpg

Justice System - Prisons
Players who commit illegal activities and are caught by City Guards (guards are very perceptive), have the choice to pay a fine or go to prison. Prisons are essentially public dungeons. Once the criminal is ported into prison, they will remain locked up for 5 minutes. After that time has elapsed, the door will open up, allowing the criminal to enter the prison yard and interact with other inmate players. The prison yard is large, has massive stone walls and is filled with giant rats. Kill the rats to eventually find the key to escape prison. To make things worse, criminals will receive a de-buff, which prevents them from using any skills from their Skill Bar. Once the criminal escapes prison, that de-buff will expire.

What do you hope to see with the addition of the Thieves Guild?

Really nice post... I really hope they read this and copy it onto the game.

    1) Have the Thieves Guild Npc's attack on sight anyone without a certain level of infamy. Make your nefarious choices count, and also give people who are KOS in most cities a place to hang out.

    2) Would love to see the shadowmarks get a more prominent role, good call there. I always wished they had given them more importance in Skyrim.

    3) Probably more of an Assassins guild one, but have the ability to post a bounty on a player in Cyrodill, claimable by anyone. I'm sure some would argue it would lead to griefing, but hey its pvp, and it needs to be tied in with the pve side imo.

So they raised the floor and lowered the ceiling. Except the ceiling has spikes in it now and the floor is also lava.

No. I definitely do NOT want to either have to pay a fine or go to prison. We should get those two options, but we should also have the intimidate and persuasive will options.

If we are to introduce fame and infamy then the justice system could work like the one in skyrim. The guards will look over a few times if we are well renowned in Tamriel. Like when guards would let things slide because you were the thane of the city.

I would also like to have the option to refuse to pay or go to jail and ultimately escape from the guards.

With that said the fine we have to pay next time would grow larger and the time we remain in jail would be longer as well.

That's why you can bribe city guards, thus the passive mentioned above...

Why can't I just use intimidate and bribe him with that? I don't need another passive to put a skill into especially with these respec costs..

And I'm also not that good at making money in this game, so I would really like to just refuse and attempt to make an escape.

Those new contents seem nice and all, but I wonder how I could care about it in the state the game is in. More and more people agree they have to stop releasing new content to get the basics of the game (graphics, skill abilities, grouping system) fixed.

Now, I understand it's interesting and all, I won't bother the OP guy more and spam on this thread, but I really wish so many of us would be excited. Instead of that, I'm just waiting to be able to play the game without running into a problem every 10 minutes.

Great post, must admit I'm surprised the thieves guild is not out by now.

They dont release anything until they are fairly certain its ready. And even then you can expect bugs.

There already been a statement why they pushed up the justice system. It needs to be ready. Not only working but a system that works with the game.

    I like it!

Except not all Thieves Guild members have been villainous. While I do agree theft is wrong in real life, you have to take cultural differences into account like the Khajit and Bosmer. Khajit and Bosmer don't even view property rights quite the same way as we do, which is not surprising when they're really just aliens. There's also the Grey Fox to consider, often a hero for good among the Thieves Guild. Not all Thieves are villains. I would hope the option to be the Robin Hood type or the Brigand both have possibility, otherwise it is not 'play as you want to' at all. I can understand the Dark Brotherhood being more sinister, but being a Thief I can see being heroic, depending HOW you play it. That still doesn't mean the law won't clamp you in irons if you get caught.
