"USE" command range shortened?

Ever since 1.1.2, players have problems looting, activating items or even opening certain doors, because the range at which you can "use" (default E) an item seem to be like, halved.

This means that to loot containers with provisioning items, one has to hug them, some are completely unreachable now, for some you have to jump and open them mid-air.. same to activate most smaller items on walls etc.

Also, QUITE A FEW doors are not not reachable - including a few main zone quest ones.. (Stonefalls main quest, Rivenspire side quest, etc etc)

Yeah, I definitely felt it was shortened, what gives? Bug or unintentional 'nerf'?

I noticed this on an alt in the wailing prison. I do much if this in first person because looting containers with Lyris up my arse is a pain.

I have to be damn near standing *in* the urn to loot it.

yep, its horrible now, I have a short bosmer, if there are two rows of crates, I have to stand on top of the first row now in order to loot them all, and have to jump or climb on stuff to loot wall mounted cabinets:(

So disrespectful to chimps! ... but seems true - every "fix" bugs out several other things..

Take the Soul Trap on critters exploit - instead of just making it NOT regenerate resources from critters, they made ALL RANGED SPELLS (including heals) UNABLE TO CAST WHEN POINTING AT A CRITTER... what the hell is the logic behind that?

I mean, really... it seems they are trying exceptionally hard to ruin the game to the unplayable state, at which point they'll probably abandon whole game and leave with pockets filled. I'm a pessimist, but they sure seem to "fix" things by ruining 2 more. Even the memory leak "fix" somehow cost me almost 10 fps compared to yesterday..

I used to be sworn defender of this game, but enough is enough. Every person draws a line somewhere..

I'm not ready to give up on this game, I'm just angry that they managed to take such a great game with tons of potential, and systematically destroy it with hopeless patching, terrible coding, and bad decisions. This game ought to be amazing...why you gotta wreck a good thing ZOS. Where is my /facepalm emote, I feel like I should have one for this game.

It's just REALLY confusing to see that each patch creates more bugs than it fixes.. one has to wonder what the hell are they trying to do by that. Lose all paying customers on purpose?

I got my NB to VR practically without any problems, now that I abandoned her because she's crippling weak and created a Pyromancer, I'm constantly annoyed by bugs that did not exist before, shortened use range (a promise of more trouble ahead, with doors and other interactables), while being nerfed (because fixing/buffing not working classes is harder to do than nerfing the the only working one - obviously nerfing the range of talons from 8 to 6m won't be enough, let's make it lag 1.5 seconds till enemies get rooted)...

I'm not giving up yet.. but if they don't rethink their "patching" tactics till summer... well... let's just say they ain't the only MMO on the market.

Holy crap is that why my NB is even more broken than usual since the patch?

[edit : ... must have hired scripting coders and had them do serious ObjectOriented c++ code. ]

Actually introducing new bugs when you do a patch is really common. I was surprised to see that they were rolling 1.1.0-1.1.2 into one patch because something that large is going to have huge bugs. In a new system bugs happen a lot, the PTS likely have to few people since the memory leak bug didn't impact everyone it wasn't caught. Over time a game's build gets more stable and testing protocols become more rigorous and new bugs only pop up with major releases.

As for the original topic, I have noticed this too, I feel like the distance was cut by about 66% or so. It is annoying on small items like sacks, others just take a little getting used to, but the smaller containers are unusually hard to actually access now.
You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.

You get used to it - unless your too short apparently.

I think it was a bot adjustment. It makes botting harder as it needs to be more precise. I think they should couple that with a small random X/Y shift to harvest ingredients to make botting even harder.

And annoy the crap out of players?
Bots don't even loot such objects..... never did, too hard to code. They just run around map farming low level crafting nodes (and we got flat nerf to node count and respawns, now unable to find 2 nodes in half an hour) and dungeons.

This just makes exping provisioning even more insufferable than before... along with bugging dozens of interactable objects and doors.

This change may be the last straw for me. It just makes me so angry every time I have to take 2-3 extra steps and a few more seconds to carefully aim the new smaller reticle.

Multiply that extra effort times every container and you end up just irritated, constantly. (Especially provisioners)

Of course, we still can't get VR provisoning mats in VR zones....but that is for another thread.

it has to be a bug that they will patch soon due to the inability to reach items and doors.

I doubt it is a bug, it was a deliberate anti-bot change that does nothing to the bots and only punishes the paying RL players.

I thought it was my imagination. Most houses (AD) have a bookshelf to the left that has 4 sacks on it. The two in the back are now too far away to loot - even if you get as close as possible to the bookshelf - and the bookshelf is a tad too high to jump up on. I've been in a couple of spots trying to loot containers where I was luck I didn't get stuck

Yes, this problem is quite annoying. I am curious if this is a bug or an intended change. If it is intended then it is not a good idea.

If anything, the loot range should be increased and even better to morph it in an area loot functionality so you don't have to go next to each crate, box, chest to get the focus in order to obtain the loot. Similar behavior like looting NPC after a fight.

    Botters are working just fine.

And theyre after alchemy ingredients and enchanting stones now too.
