I'm thinking of buying a 4k monitor with the influx of the new ones being sub £500.
Does ESO run at 3840x2160 Resolution ?

I think it's a bigger question of you having a graphics card that can use a 4K HD resolution actually have a perfomance that makes things acceptable then if the game supports it. Most of the games these days will just query the operating system asking what resolutions the system is capable of and will give those options. This basicly means that if the graphics card can't do it or that the drivers or windows itself "says" no, the game can't use 4K HD

just downsample with your current monitor, and see what kind of performance hit you get. (google ogssaa for how-to's).

I've found that performance with ESO doesn't drop too much with higher resolutions, at least not as much as one would expect.

i get about 60-70 fps at 1900x1200 on a gtx690 with everything turned to max.
so yeah i would expect possibly 40 fps with a few things turned off.

I just don't know if the game supports the res, as i cant find any info on it.
plenty on minimum specs of course. but nothing on how high the game supports.

Shouldn't worry much if the game will support it, technology changed a lot over time. And where years and years ago, game studio's had to implement and support resolutions within their code, this has long been changed to a driver/directx mechanism, resulting in game studios no longer having to care about resolutions any more. Basicly it's just a rescale of rendered output, rather then something different being rendered like it used to be once.

it does indeed support 4k (as seen in the screenshot below). even though I'm downsampling to a 1080p display in the screenshot, the game is being rendered in full 4k. I don't actually play it like this as I only have a gtx760, but a 690 should handle it... I think

This link has some in-depth testing on how well ESO runs at 4K.

Well, I tested ESO Downsampling with full 4K Resolution. For normal questing etc its works fine. like around 50FPS with my GTX 780 Ti.

But, as soon as you go raid, its unbearable. Sanctum Ophidia for example drops below 20 fps. and below 10 when bombing the trash. And theres a derpton of trash! But 1440p works fine.
