Post patch my graphics driver crashes while playing

Since the new patch my graphics driver inevitably crashes (GPU Radeon HD7700) after I have been playing for some time (~1-2h). I have already updated to the newest catalyst version, checked GPU and CPU temps (GPU never goes above 60°C).

Had this too, noticable when alt tabbing, doesnt seem to happen with any pattern. Nvidia card here.

Just did a 15min Furmark burntest: maxtemp 70°C no errors.
EDIT: I am using the windowed fullscreen mode, for the ease of alt-tabbing, but before the new patch I never had this problem

Its something in the patch, not an overly techy person but I wonder if its related to the memory leak that they have confirmed?

Must admit if im not switching characters a lot it doesnt seem to happen which could confirm it *the leak is something to do with the character screen*

    I filed a ticket with support: 140523-013149.

Lets hope this leads to something.

Unless they've made really, really bad mistakes on memory-management (which is hard to do these days due to Windows security), I don't find it very likely that the video driver crashing is related to the memory leaks in any way. These are two entirely different processes that have no real direct connection.

Most likely issue for the crashing ATI drivers at least (not sure of nVidia drivers show the same issues?) could be they're trying to execute some graphics rendering commands your videocard can't support or that they overloading the graphics card with too large shaders, textures, etc... This could trigger a GPU reset, which occasionally (although it should) will crash the drivers.

I have AMD Radeon HD 7700 and exactly the same issue is happening to me since yesterday (the patch day). I experience crashes about every second hour. I observed I can predict the time when it could happen, because whole game is starting to freeze for a second from time to time, it's like game screen is stumbling. Then I try to not do anything important. Because I had once this crash during one of main quests and after back I had to start everything from the beginning and killing the same mobs again.

After every crash (by now I had 7 crashes) I fill crash report and after click on "Submit" my system, desktop and cursor freeze for some time, about 2-3 minutes.

    Zen, help us!

mine mostly happens, the pink npcs and purple horses, after alt tab or 2+ hours in game

Went to windowed mode fullscreen and the problem has happened once since

    HD 7950 here, same issues.
Have tried both fullscreen modes, think up to 12 crashes now.

I'm crashing every few minutes. Doesn't seem related to alt tabbing or anything. I just get purple polygonal objects/npcs and ability circles turning into purple diamonds with x's through them. Restarting game resolves but this is frustrating every 20 minutes or so.

I had issues last night with magenta textures on several types of objects. It began after I switched on Enemy Player Health Bars in the PVP zone. Horses, players, weapons, some structures and other miscellaneous objects exhibited this behavior. This evening the character selection screen is blurry as hell my first attempt to log in after the hotfix. We'll see how it goes. My second attempt at launching seems better. The graphics lost the blur at least.

Radeon 7800 HD. Launch the game, play between 30 seconds and 2 hours. Screen starts flickering graphics drivers get corrupted and I have to reboot my machine.

I was crashing every few minutes just after the patch. I'd applied the Microsoft fix and also updated my video drivers (nVidia GT 525M card). I got MSI Afterburner and underclocked my memory clock to the lowest settings and while I'm still crashing every few hours, the problem isn't as bad as it was so it seems to have helped. Also, I have been monitoring temperatures and the crashes are happening at random temps, not always at peak temperature so I'm not convinced it's a heat issue.

Tons of NVIDIA players had this from the first day of launch. The "fix" for us has been to change the DX level to 9 which sucks. Here is the line in the usersettings.txt file that needs to be changed from D3D11 to D3D9:

    GraphicsDriver.7 "D3D9"

Not sure if it will help you guys or not, worth a shot. It doesn't matter what drivers we are using, new or old as the DX level is the thorn in our side.

Thanks for the info - I'm going to give it a try. I tell ya, I've tried everything short of human sacrifice to get this doggone game to stop crashing... and the sacrifice thing is starting to look increasingly attractive. I'll report back if it works.

Yeah I just tried to run at DX 11 again to see if they had fixed the issue and I still get the black screens, etc. Changed it back to 9 and it's working.

I just finished ~4 hrs without a single crash after changing my settings as you suggested. I've never been able to play that long without crashing at least a couple of times so it looks like it may have done the trick.. thank you again :)
