Game Crashing (unknown error occurred)

Ichthus
Ichthus
Soul Shriven
My game continues to crash to the login screen with the error message saying "An unknown error has occurred."

I'm currently leveling in the Alik'r Desert and this happens in solo dungeons throughout the instance and also just walking around, so I'm not sure if it's secluded to just one instance. Any help would be appreciated!

Lower your screen resolution, kill the local variables file and check your event log (application).

Can you explain how I can check my event log, please?

Try removing addons manually as well

I've done all of the above and the problem still exists.

Any other suggestions to what the problem could be?

I would like to suggest that you would tried repairing your client but i'm hesitant since it's been known to download the entire game again sometimes.

there is apparently a known massive memory leak in the 1.1.2 version, which causes the game to crash (normally no error message) for many people, sometimes within half an hour or so of gameplay. 1-2 hours probably means you have 4GB of memory and your system lasts longer before the leak crashes it.
This issue has been identified and is being worked on by Zenimax.

    Thanks for all the input!

So is a temporary fix, just restarting you PC before starting the game client again? Until it starts again anyway?

So the problem I'm having is that I can log into the Character screen with no problems, but cannot log into any of my characters, I have relogged in about 15 times now and am seriously frustrated, any ideas on this one? Or is it the same issues?

It can be anything from an unstable network/internet connection to problems on their end with the server. The only situation I've gotten the "Unknown error" message disconnecting me was if my network connection would fail. It was the only circumstance that would trigger it.

i have 16gb of ram, still happens within the 1-2 hour time frame

The fact that you got 16GB of ram doesn't make a difference to 4GB I guess. They're probably hitting the old 4GB (32bit) memory limit due to the way they've written their code, if they weren't breaking on that 4GB limit, it propably would indeed start to crash when you would reach the limit of your 16GB of memory.
Although it's annoying that it's crashing at 4GB after 1-2 hours, I think it's good that you don't get to get the full 16GB filled with junk before it crashes.

Thanks for all the input everyone.
I've been doing some talking and looking around and talking to some friends and the only thing that is temporarily fixing the issue, for me, is restarting my PC and rebooting my modem/router. I was able to play a solid 2 more hours before I had to go and stopped playing, which was way better than the 5-15min intervals when the scenario started. I definitely think I'm a victim of the memory leak issue though.
